okay so i was reading the Guardian website comments as usual and came across this short article

He is increasingly pleased about the changing state of world politics and it is really upsetting me. Does anyone have any advice on how to manage this domestic political battle?
so i wondered, do views matter to you in a relationship or not?

personally i would actually prefer to be with someone who disagreed with me than agreed with me. i like pushing it, being controversial and playing devils advocate and find it much more fun/interesting to talk to someone i disagree with than someone i agree with. i've got one friend who is pretty much on same page as me but i always turn the discussion to something we disagree over cos i get bored of an echo chamber of agreement. spice it up please. contrarianism!!

anyway there's loads of differing views in the article comments but that's the short article piece.

well it entirely depends doesn't it lol. views that don't affect me.. probably not.. views that do and are forced upon me then yes. do i want a partner who believes women are inferior and *should* be homemakers? no, of course i don't. do i mind if my partner has different political leanings than me? no not really, as long as they don't manifest into dangerous actions?

    why

to argue/debate is the best way to open your mind and challenge yourself.

if politics wasn't worth arguing over we'd still be ruled by a King with the absolute powers of the 11th Century.

To some extent I think it is important, but not majorly. If we don't agree on something then it does make for an interesting conversation.

I mean I wouldn't want polar opposites as we would be constantly debating and never really achieving anything but I'm always up for a solid discussion about issues. I think for me what is more important is how the person deals with a difference in opinion. I wouldn't date the type of person who gets mad and calls people with a different opinion dumb, however people who can discuss calmly and make an attempt to understand why someone would see it a different way is someone I would.

Me and my partner always have disagreements but it doesn't bother us, we just respect each others opinions, obviously we agree with things that actually matter though
