    Default New Year's Honours

    New Year's Honours announced

Queen Elizabeth II knighting Sir Bruce Forsyth in 2011

    Commonly awarded ranks:

Companion of Honour - Limited to 65 people. Recipients wear the initials CH after their name.

    Knighthood or Damehood.

CBE - Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

OBE - Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

MBE - Member of the Order of the British Empire.

    BEM - British Empire Medal.
    Well done all.

Disappointing though to see Nigel Farage has not (yet) been awarded a knighthood or peerage.

    Thoughts?

    @Cerys;

Vast majority on list are normal people and not celebrities.

I know Sir Ken Dodd and Dame Patricia Routledge well. He's a Liverpool comedian and she was in 'Keeping Up Appearances'.

Not a bad list from those I recognise. Still don't understand why you believe Farage deserves either of those though.

I would of thought it fairly obvious given he's effected the biggest change in British politics and history since the Suez crisis. His achievement is undeniable. Far more deserving than the Remain campaigners like Will Straw who were given gongs despite losing.

My inkling is that Farage will be given a peerage when we've left the EU and it'll be justified for his long service as a President of a grouping in the European Parliament and/or giving Ukip more peers as was pledged by David Cameron. Likely in 2018 or 2019.

If it were up to me i'd actually grant him a Dukedom.

I think the whole Honours thing is quite flawed. Reward people with a medal or a certificate, but a title is way over the top. Getting a title like Sir or Lord gets to some peoples heads.

Dame Hyacinth Bucket (Patricia Routledge), after so many years she was actually a cut above after all . I knew a few people on the list at least!

But you'd be rewarding him on something that nobody actually knows the consequence to yet.
I'd rather he wasn't given peerage on a personal level too, simply because I don't think politicians should be in the HoL. That and he would turn up for the money and leave without doing a thing.
