The only thing that sticks out to me, in recent sporting history, is Lutalo Muhammad's last second defeat in the -80kg taekwondo final at the Rio Olympics. He had a comfortable lead and should have just backed off and taken the penalty points to secure victory, but instead he stood his ground and his opponent managed to get an unexpected kick in, which lost Lutalo the game in the literal last second. His interview afterwards was devastating.
