Sad to hear that Lord Carrington has died. He became a member of the House of Lords in 1940, served active duty during the War, went on to become a minister in every Conservative government from Churchill to Thatcher, and then general secretary of NATO. What a life. pic.twitter.com/T1jvU2i5Ep

Well, can't say I agreed with him on everything (especially Rhodesia) but truly a massive elder statesman. RIP.

He was involved in pretty much everything in the post-war era.

He's succeeded in the baronetcy peerage by his son, who becomes the 7th Lord Carrington.
