The Queen is appointed to the Order of the Thistle

Her Majesty The Queen has been appointed to Scotland's most senior honour by The King

The King has been graciously pleased to appoint The Queen to the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

The sash of the Order was originally purple-blue, occasionally in watered silk

One of the highest honours in the land that a British monarch can bestow.

It's limited to a maximum of 16 members at one time (excluding royals) so quite an exclusive honour to have.

There's been speculation for a while now that the two currently vacant spaces will include former PM Gordon Brown being given the knighthood, although Sir Tony Blair was Scottish yet he was inducted last year into England's equivalent of the Order of the Garter, so who knows?
