Made me rly sad when it was announced tbh tho it was obvious it'd happen eventually. He was just perfect as the doctor :(
At least David is only returning for that though. I never shared the liking of him in the role much
Just came in and saw this on Facebook, I don't understand the point of life anymore...

there's now loads of talk about who will be replacing him. While I love that the show is all about change I do think he could have done another series there was a lot more to see. Doesn't seem that long since he first came in.

That's not true :P
He's regenerating in the Christmas Special... Has there been any word if that has been filmed yet? Even if it has, I'm sure the regeneration sequence will get filmed separately. So only 2 episodes of Matt Smith left. After loving Tennant so much, I never thought I'd say this, but I think Matt Smith is probably my favourite doctor.
Who will be the new actor? I hope it goes to whoever the BBC deems the best actor for the job, and I hope that they don't pick a woman/non-white person just for the sake of having one, to satisfy everyone that complains about it.

I kind of hope they don't pick a woman for any reason. Not being sexist, but The Doctor is male and I wouldn't really want it any other way.

No credibility or truth in this put someone on Gallifreybase who claimed to work for the BBC claimed this guy was the next Doctor:

I don't think Martin Freeman would commit to do it, due to him being on Sherlock, plus he's a big hollywood actor now like Ben.
Billie comes up every time.
It's probably someone unknown like when Matt was announced.

Rumours suggests that the the BBC will name the Twelfth Doctor tomorrow night. It's thought that a national Sunday paper has discovered the identity of the actor who will be stepping into the role so have been forced to make their announcement much earlier than planned. It's also suggested that there has been a photoshoot with the new Twelfth Doctor already.

I really hope The Doctor never becomes a women :( I think It's too established that The Doctors male, I know Time Lords can change genders, and I think The Doctor would only work as a women If they established it early in the show back in the 70's.

I do understand where you're coming from, and yes I do agree that if the Doctor being a female was established earlier it would be easy for the writers to do it now in our time. I just think a female Doctor might be something new that the fans weren't expecting, and I know the idea is far fetched but anythings possible :).

I don't think a female doctor will occur ever, it's been wrote out that regenerations take gender into account every time in the show.
For example river song regenerated 3 times and was a female every time, the doctor has regenerated into a male every single time, making it rather... non compliant to have a gender change to a timelord.

Actually in The Doctors Wife, when the Doctor received the cube thinking it was off another Time Lord he states the symbol of it was of a fellow time lord the Corsair and he stated that he had changed genders multiple times when regenerating.

Well we do have Zygons as well :P
No trailer yet, but heres a description.
The trailer starts out on a haunting, dark note — Matt Smith is walking in the TARDIS, while in voiceover he says, “I’ve had many faces. Many lives. I don’t admit to all of them. There’s one life I’ve tried very hard to forget.” And we glimpse the Doctor talking to Clara about his greatest secret.
And then — what looks like the Time War, between the Daleks and the Time Lords! Seriously. Daleks blowing up, flames everywhere, everything going to Hell. And in the middle of all the carnage, John Hurt as the non-Doctor, looking resolute. “Great men are forged in fire,” he says. And then something about being the man who lit the flames.
And then, we get Tennant and Smith. Tennant, in his TARDIS, yells “Allons-y,” while Matt Smith, in his, yells “Geronimo!”
Rose pops up and warns that “the moment is coming.” And John Hurt’s non-Doctor says that he is ready for what’s going to happen.
And then: the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors comparing their sonic screwdrivers, as Tennant looks possibly a bit jealous of Smith’s screwdriver. And then a shot of both of them wearing clever glasses, while Smith wears his fez and they look delighted with their cool gear. And then a glimpse of Rose, looking excited.
Oh, and the TARDIS being airlifted down to Trafalgar Square with the Doctor hanging down from it.
Smith is in the TARDIS, when he says, “I remember this. I pretty much remember.” And we see twinkly lights traveling across the Earth.
David Tennant and John Hurt are inside Matt Smith’s TARDIS. “Oh, you’ve redecorated. I don’t like it,” Tennant says, channeling Patrick Troughton in “The Three Doctors.”
A title appears: “This fall, the Doctor will face his darkest day: Himself.”
And we see Zygons, plural. Busting out of a glass case. And then some more shots of Daleks blowing up and being torn apart and generally being Da-wrecked.
Inside the TARDIS, Tennant tells Smith, “For once, I would like to know where I’m going.” Smith responds: “No, you really wouldn’t.”
And then, someone says, “I’m looking for the Doctor.” And the camera pans around to show Hurt, Tennant and Smith, with the two Doctors trying not to look at their unacknowledged predecessor. Tennant shrugs and says, “Well, you’ve certainly come to the right place.”

Not sure what it was called but it was mentioned on the last page. Also, when Tennant regenerated into Smith he said "I'm a girl" because of the long hair:

Capaldi will now have played three different characters to do with Doctor Who in the space of like 6 years. I'm not saying he won't be a good Doctor but I just don't like the fact there's now a huge continuity error. If Jack comes back for anything now it'll just be really awkward....

It's not the first time. Previous doctor Colin Baker appeared as a main character in an episode before he became the doctor although because of this I wasn't expecting Peter Capaldi to get the role. However I really liked him in Torchwood and he's a bit older which I was wanting. I can see him playing a darker doctor one very different to Matt Smith which is really what is needed.
Sorry I didn't read all the other replies but a quick note on Torchwood. Torchwood and Doctor Who don't seem to follow continuity wise with each other anyways. Look at Miracle Day, no one is dying and it's present day but present day doctor who with Amy and Rory and it's never even mentioned.

This was just posted on the BBC Facebook page!
Now we know this post is quite wordy but we wanted to let you know about ALL of the other things happening across the BBC to mark our very own #DoctorWho (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/doctorwho)
's 50th anniversary in November - and there's a lot - so here goes...
ON #BBCTWO (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/bbctwo)
:
- In a special one-off programme, Professor Brian Cox will try to answer the classic questions raised by the Doctor – can you really travel in time? Does extra-terrestrial life exist in our galaxy? And how do you build something as fantastical as the TARDIS?
-The Culture Show will present ‘Me, You and Doctor Who’ with lifelong fan Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the BBC’s longest running TV drama, arguing that it’s one of the most important cultural artefacts of modern Britain.
- BBC Two will then wrap up its coverage with the previously announced ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ written by Mark Gatiss
ON BBC Three (https://www.facebook.com/bbcthree?directed_target_id=0):
-'Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend’ will countdown to the top Doctor Who monster as voted for by you.
- 'Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide’ will introduce those less familiar to the show to a wealth of archive material and act as a guide to all things Who.
- We also have one further exciting commission to be announced later this year which will see the celebrations finish with a bang.
ON #BBCFOUR (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/bbcfour):
- Audiences will be introduce audiences to the first Doctor, William Hartnell, with a special re-run of the first ever story, which marked the start of 50 years of history. The four episodes are being shown in a restored format, not previously broadcast in the UK.
There will also be programmes across #CBBC (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/cbbc) including two live #BluePeter (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/bluepeter)specials.
ON BBC Radio 1 (https://www.facebook.com/bbcradio1?directed_target_id=0):
- A documentary will look at 'Time Lord Rock (TROCK)' as a genre of music inspired by the Doctor and his journeys through space and time.
ON BBC Radio 2 (https://www.facebook.com/BBCR2?directed_target_id=0)
- 'Who is the Doctor' will look at the lasting appeal of Doctor Who and ask how much of its continued success can be attributed to its basic formula.
- In ‘The Blagger’s Guide to Doctor Who’, David Quantick will give the iconic Doctor the Blagger’s treatment. He’ll be finding out the answers to questions such as why do Americans think Tom Baker is still Doctor Who? How many Doctors have there really been? Were the Daleks really named after an encyclopaedia?
- Finally, Graham Norton will be broadcasting his weekly Radio 2 show live (Saturday 23 November, 10am) from the Doctor Who Celebration in London

The Day of the Doctor Official Synopsis:
The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

the actual trailer for the 50th episode will be shown 8pm on Saturday. I'd originally read that it was going to be shown first for Children in Need which makes me wonder if there's going to be something else shown.
Also who is going to see it in cinemas? I've just booked 3 vip tickets

Really liked the prequel mainly for McGann. While the film is hit and miss his doctor is very underrated. I've not had a chance to check any big finish audio's but heard that both him and Colin are far better on these. Also good to see him regenerate into hurt.
This also makes me wonder if we will see a Hurt to Eccleston regeneration. It hasn't looked good, but McGann did say he wasn't involved and while only in a prequel it could mean that Eccleston has lied. I can hope at least.

I too hope that Eccleston has lied, even if it's only for a 5 second regeneration scene - it really needs to be done.
And McGann still has it in him! I certainly wouldn't mind if he did an actual series :P

I enjoyed it but as mentioned they seemed to throw away the Zygon plot suddenly. I'm also not sure what I think about Gallifrey living, it brings something new to the series, but at the same time I was interested in seeing hurt press the button and see what led to the doctor we know. I was also hoping for a bit more of the time war on screen.

did anyone think that the actual end where they nearly used the moment was too unemotional? It seemed Clara brought the emotion in. The one major criticism I have for the 50th was that they had went on for years on how big the time war was and how ruined the doctor was for having to destroy his own people yet when it came to it there wasn't much emotion to show that. I wanted to see John Hurt's doctor torn between what to do along with the other doctors. They should have fought with themselves before making the final decision but instead it seemed to be over just like that.
For me the war doctor itself was a big wasted opportunity.

I do agree here. What also annoyed me was that it was Clara who essentially changed things. The Doctor hasn't known Clara for particularly long (I mean, it's only a few episodes?), yet she was able to change his mind on his biggest decision ever because she started to cry. Pfft.

Hey guys,
The Day Of The Doctor episode was really epic. Tennant has got to win the award for the best lines, Matt has to win the award for the best emotions and I think John Hurt won the award for the most amazing way of speaking! In regards to the Zygon's their planet was lost in the last days of the time war and I think we will be returning to gallifrey with the next doctor seeing as he was part of saving gallifrey. If the time war didn't end then I think the Zygon's returned to their planet (Maybe it wasn't destoryed).
I for one can't wait for the christmas speical! Whats everyones theory's about what is going to happen next?

11 is going to get critically injured in some sort of odd way I imagine... No Dalek shooting him, or Cyberman zapping him or anything. Then in Capaldi's series I imagine the series will build tension in searching for Gallifrey, until the finale I guess. I think I'd much prefer him finding Gallifrey early on though :P

It will be a nice change to have the search for Gallifrey rather than the doctor is going to die considering we've had that the last few series even if linked.
I wonder if any key time lords will return from classic who. We've seen somehow Rassilon was brought back to life as he appeared in the end of time. It could mean Romana could return (she was the president of Gallifrey at some point in novels, audio's etc). and even the master. Oh and doctor's mother was apparently the women seen in the end of time (the one who kept appearing to Wilfred)
I think Moffat could literally just say "lol jk not saving Gallifry" and kill off Matt Smith in the downfall of Gallifrey. I think what The Doctor did to Gallifrey makes him who he is. Now that this has happened, I don't think there's a lot of room for Doctor Who to be very dark which sucks because I can only see capaldi playing a very dark doctor.

I did think that but maybe it means we'll see a different dark side instead. The problem is that new who has often had stuff about the time war and it's made the character who he is but it's gotten quite stale.
Maybe the fact that the doctor was close to destroying Gallifrey will be key in the new series. He could have done it and thought he actually did. Will his own people forgive him?

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd make a thread for the Doctor Who Christmas episode "the day of the doctor"
Here is the trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njNnTDiLOd4
And here is the synopsis:
Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.
What are your views? What would you like to happen? Are you sad to see Matt go?
Note: please don't post spoilers (River wouldn't be happy - trust me you dont wanna get on the bad side of her)

Much preferred over Davids regeneration.
Though the episode was too jumpy, especially cutting the scenes of sending Clara home.
Loved the regeneration though! Wish it was a two parter with more character depth and establishing the battle.
David will always be my fave and I was in floods at his regeneration but I liked how understated this was and I welled up! I will deffo miss Matt. The doctor and Clara pulling the cracker, the amy cameo coupled with him taking his bow tie off :(, his speech was perfect and they used the rings of Akhaten music! love it and there was no river song to ruin it. I loved Clara's skirt but its all sold out ahhhhh

August isn't bad really considering they haven't filmed anything yet I don't think and apparently a rumoured April special. The splits have been a pain recently but series 8 won't be split as even Moffat knows splitting a new doctor's series would be suicidal as you will need a full uninterrupted series to really show off the new doctor. I'm also unsure what exactly has caused the splits previously. Maybe it's Moffat's work or maybe the BBC or a bit of both. I do like Moffat but I think it's time for him to leave after series 8 I just don't know who could replace him.
