We used to try to update the forum every week in something we called 'Sunday Updates'. These updates could range from new features, rule changes or little tweaks. Unfortunately this hasn't happened for a fair few months.
I'm hoping to gather some ideas on what the community wants to see introduced or changed. If you ever have any ideas for the forum then this is your place to post them and get a response on the ideas from the forum department and the rest of the community.
If your idea gets introduced then you will win 20 reputation points and a special forum award.

Surely a forum manager should have SOME idea of how to promote a website, no?
A lot of people have left, found out why and fix it.

Times have though, social networking has become bigger than anything and forums are a dying breed - that's not to say that a forums' community shouldn't be dying, though.
Times change, businesses and websites need to change with them otherwise, like with HxF, they get left behind. And it's unfortunate.

I dislike the kid, but hes right forums are a dying breed, I mean example look at vBulletin.org its like a graveyard over there. Used to be so many people online, Mods being uploaded constantly. The market just isn't there anymore.

I disagree with a market not being there, it's integrating the fastest growing sectors on the Internet (social networking) into the forums to make it easier for people to use/promote etc.
A simple Facebook/Twitter 'like' button on threads could expose its content to thousands of people and it's such a simple thing. This won't make an immediate difference and I understand members being hesitant about using it and exposing their love for Habbo or whatever but it's things like these you need to discuss.
Please don't patronise me Ross, I might not agree with everything you say but I do respect you.

also if you're looking for a way to increase activity maybe offer a prize of 100C (i dont care if you dont play habbo you can have vip then) but i bet you would get a lot more people posting if credits were offered because vip is old and stale and im sick of it and rep being the main prizes on the forum for things lol. since habbo is probably the most active section it would probably attract a lot of people..

I agree, VIP is boring now :(
Hey still think you should offer VIP+ or w.e it was called as a like actual prize. like 2 weeks vip+ and stuff.
e.g for posting comp (over 100+) get ether 1 week vip+ or 2 weeks vip?
posting torni the way events do them, run over 1-2 weeks.... MAYBE EVEN OFFER A THRONE :O
thats what i mean
make a new forum skin like all ducky

me and phil suggested something similar to this, the credits thing is a bit out of reach but we thought that maybe offer a free lottery ticket instead

Going with the tournament idea I think it'd be good to have another in-game tournament but give extra points alongside client and radio points for x amount of forum posts. That said, I don't think the last tournament went very well, only a few people entered the back to school one didnt they lol
unfortunately though I don't offering more coins as prizes and having one-off events is gonna cut it any more. time to steal ideas from other sites.

Surely HxEE should be coming back soon so that would ultimately increase forum activity due to a forum prize usually being offered too. It better be coming back anyway :P.
Bring back posting statistics - offer the rep the staff got when it first began, or have a leaderboard like scott; did, if you post X amount of times it depends what prize you get?
I don't think awards should be removed, I think it's a nice addition.
Perhaps do more of the quick quizzes, F1 competitions something similar and offer a prize.

if you implement a 'like' it basically makes rep redundant so you piss off the few people who still use the forum leading to more people gradually quitting imho
1) i'm +1 with get rid of awards, hardly been useful since it got here
2) increase PM limit for normal/vip users
3) remove all skins except non habbo dark skin and base everything about it so the forum is perfect

VVIP offers the following enhancements:
- Habbox VVIPs will be the first to use Profile albums (ability to upload images and allow people to comment on them - all accessible from your profile). This feature will be released to all members later on in the week but we are giving VVIPs exclusive access to it first!
- More PM Inbox space. If the storage space upgrades a few weeks ago wasn't enough, the 1000 PM space will surely suffice meaning you will not have to delete a PM in a very long time!
- Bigger profile image to spice up your profile. Normal VIPs now get 250 x 250, however VVIPs get 350 x 500!
- Speaking of spicing your profile up, VVIPs will be able to full customize the style of their profiles! This includes changing the font size, font type, colours, border colours, background images and gradients!
- VVIPs will also be able to switch between normal VIP colours whenever they wish and as many times as they wish! This can be done from your Usercp. You will not be able to select other 'special' VIP colours like gold, easter and Christmas unless you purchase those colours.
(vvip = vip+ was changed name like 2 months later)

Also GoldenMerc; not all competitions are re-used, I know I've always tried to do different ideas but it is hard when a lot were done before I was in competitions, if I go on statistics (providing all my ideas were unique to me) that's about 250 ideas along with all those staff we have now and those previously who have done original ideas or not similar ones. Habbox probably needs to become more acceptable to the younger/immature audience if you want to see a sign of forum activity being increased. Not just the sole reason why it has died down over the months but one of them for sure.

Introduce a HxCredits sysytem. Credits can be won in competitions etc, and then traded in for nice little gifts. I would post an example, but it is on a website I can't post links to.
Really decent system though - things like exclusive coloured usernames, VIP+ etc
Just do it guys!

I don't know the exact age range but I would still say young teens for sure. The problem is Habbox has always been a "mature" type of fansite where a lot of the members would be more mature with the odd immature person here and there. We also have a lot of people who actually don't play Habbo and may go onto the client once in a blue moon or not at all. Which is good for the forum but if you actually think about it - It can also be quite bad in a way. As once the mature get more older then they will also want to leave Habbox at some point. Then that leaves us in a pickle.
Looking at other forums and the way they have been for a while they have an audience that Habbox would consider young/immature. They can also post a lot of content that would be considered crap by people on here. Which is why they get more posts/threads on a daily basis compared to what Habbox gets.

So let's say ClubHabbo has/had an older audience - Now look at the community over there compared to what it was in the golden days. We need to become more acceptable and not complain when these members join and start posting but you can't force these views down on everyone.

Sorry for interrupting buuuuuut most other sites allow swearing on forum and stuff like that... I'm not saying that Habbox should do that, but they do. And they don't hate on new people as much... or immature ones like me! :P but thats what makes Habbox unique I guess?

Yeah I'm against the current swearing filter, I only think 2/3 words actually deserved to be filtered. Profanity isn't as frowned upon in society anymore and only the strictest people (or people in places where you just need good manners in general - e.g. school) care about it that much. Don't try and pull the 'we should have good manners here' thing either considering that never happens in most threads.
I would rather just have an option to enable/disable the filter. Individual choice then and not really Habbox's fault if you find a word you don't like.

Introduce a HxCredits sysytem. Credits can be won in competitions etc, and then traded in for nice little gifts. I would post an example, but it is on a website I can't post links to.
Really decent system though - things like exclusive coloured usernames, VIP+ etc
Just do it guys!

Stop messaging people for pointless posting or moving threads - it makes users think they've actually done something wrong to be contacted by the moderation team. Just do the job, move the thread/edit the post/delete the post but there's no need to tell the member unless they ask.

They only VM the user letting them know incase they go to find the thread and can't see it. The VM's are friendly anyway. Why would they not contact the user about pointless posting though, it breaks the rules and they will never know that they did unless they look back at their post or if they are told.

I'm pretty sure near end of last year i suggested something similar to this where in events they can win some form of habbox currency or furni
in turn the currency can be used for prizes such as rep, vip and such

Oh right :P I had completely forgotten about it if I'm honest since we havent awarded the newcomer of the month for quite a few months now. :P I think when we do the voting for member of the month it should be included in the list so we can definitely try and pick someone for the month. I know some months there might not be anyone, but looking at the past few months I could have picked someone if I had remembered/been reminded to do so xD
and yeah thats true I guess about the welcome message things- was a nice way for the super mods to get more involved with the community and for members to get to know them better, but yeah it isnt really needed really I guess so long as the information about that thread is in the welcome pm etc.

Sometimes it depends, if someone comments in the trading section, they will be edited and informed, that's a pointless post when they could have thought they were just helping. The same rule applies when people don't leave CC for graphics when the tags are used, likewise with saying something like 'it's already posted' and not giving anything else thus pointless. A few don't really know it's pointless.

Simple system; you add credits to peoples accounts then if they want something, deduct them.
Just like Brandon effectively used to do for VIP.
-----
Edited black market one for hx usage ;l
Posting around the forum - Earns 5 Credits
Creating Threads - Earns 10 credits
Donating to the site - Earns 150 credits
Adding someone as a friend - 2 credits
Creating Polls - 10 credits
Voting in a poll - 5 credits
Referring someone to the site - 100 credits
Winning Competitions - Ranges from 50-1000 credits
Birthdays - Earns 25 Credits
Users will also receive credits for thing such as:
Member of the month - 3000 credits
Weekly Top poster - 500 credits
@habbox.com email - 1500 Credits
2 weeks FREE VIP - 1500 Credits
2 weeks FREE VIP+ - 2000 Credits
6 months FREE Donor - 5500 Credits
6 months FREE VIP - 7000 Credits
Permanent Donor - 30000 credits
Exclusive Name Colour 10000 Credits
That sort of thing

New ranks are not really needed imo.

Just like on the site you know about, credits won't be given for previous posts. Otherwise the system would be utterly pointless - as you would have to give all the existing members thousands, meaning you would have to raise the amount needed for stuff. Which would mean newer members wouldn't bother as it would take so long..
Everyone would start on 0 credits, and obviously after you purchase something they are deducted from your account.

BIG QUOTE
This is good, obviously management would make changes. Personally if we were to award for posting and creating threads, I'd make the amounts smaller. Management would also need to disable certain forums from awarding credits, such as spam/forum games/announcements etc.
This would also enable us to get rid of the stupid award system, since we could offer Hxcredit instead :)
If management go through with this, I'd like to see a thread on what they want to offer, and we get to give suggestions on the prices so it's not too silly, but not too overpowered.

Definitely - I also think the credit system would be more rewarding than current awards (yay, thanks for make 20,000 posts heres an award no one will notice lmao)
In terms of awarding credits, it would only add credits to your account if your post count went up - eg. any forums with disabled post count would not gain a user credits.
Agreed with having a thread to see what users would want to see - and also for what management would like. Obviously it shouldn't be easy to get "prizes", however there should be smaller prizes (firstly to try and "prevent" users going for the top prizes, but also users are more likely to keep aiming for credits if they can see that they are actually achieving prizes!)

Yeah that is why I said currently posts couldn't be counted (sort of shows it isn't for personal gain, as although I have over 10k less than you I am probably still one of the highest aha). Nothing wrong with users getting the best prizes, as long as they achieved them with an equal start (eg. when everyone also had the chance to get them). these trolls you seem to call most people aren't really trolls they are generally just more immature users, which is exactly what matt is talking about lol. they need to be accepted more, its basically the type of personality habbo's userbase is mainly made up of now. other sites have learned to accept them (hffm) which is why its the most popular habbo forum... with a very young userbase.
Now the question is while we are on the topic of the younger audience. Are we more strict compared to other fansites and if so in which areas? (Normal moderation)
no, i think moderation is probably the best its been atm, mods don't seem to go looking for things to edit like they use to. but the younger audience you seem to wanna attract are coming from habbo where the language they can use and how they can behave is still a lot more lenient than habboxforum which could be a problem. they might find it to strict lol.

as to relating to the younger membership matt touched on, the amount of people that come into my jungle run (plug lol) and when they see the habbox.com linked being spammed by my bot and say something along the lines of "wow is habbox still going" is huge... it happens daily... the main reason for this is probably because the majority of people on here are, well... old lol and stick to the same group and dont really mix with non habbox people therefore not spreading the word and getting people to join habbox

I think that the forum just hasn't kept up with the times. It's always been conservative in comparison to others, others including ClubHabbo and look what happened to that, so it might not be a bad thing. It is a problem with Habbox though because some forums are thriving.
I agree with adECW entirely and maybe that is the issue here - the Forum Manager dismisses any change. You receive a PM or VM and no matter if it is done in a friendly tone - it puts you off, that's for sure. In this thread I've seen the General Manager and Forum Manager taking the piss / criticising (not constructively) new ideas. Sort that out and make your users feel involved and you're half way there.

It could be the process of say, the competition prizes we have now but instead of the rep on the VIP one you could have Credits?
What about something like a daily prize. Be able to win a prize (small time vip, rep, awards etc.) however you can only have 1 go a day
Could then have something like a minimum requirement to be able to have a go, such as 1 post.
There must be a plugin somewhere similar to this
I agree with adECW entirely and maybe that is the issue here - the Forum Manager dismisses any change. You receive a PM or VM and no matter if it is done in a friendly tone - it puts you off, that's for sure. In this thread I've seen the General Manager and Forum Manager taking the piss / criticising (not constructively) new ideas. Sort that out and make your users feel involved and you're half way there.
It's always been the same, nothing will change, no matter who is at the helm.

Nobody seems to be taking control. I remember when ---MAD--- made revolutionary fansite changes. First site to have music auto playing when you visit, gave AGMs specific roles, closed dead departments, made Habbox official again. I can't see anybody that currently exists in the existing senior hierarchy making any such dramatic changes.

the problem with habbox is that there is always a next in line, they will usually have been there years and getting bored of the forum / growing out of it. where as other fansites like to bring in fresh blood, not someone who has been slowly moving up the ranks over the years.

Been testing a credits plugin which is currently active on the forum at the moment. Although only the (A)GM usergroup is able to earn any credits at this moment. Anyway, it seems pretty fun and ideal. I was wondering if we should keep the name "Habbox Credits" or change it to something else.

"Habbox" isn't necessary in the title, we all know what site we're using. I feel the same about Forum Moderator usertitles too.

The reason I added the word "Habbox" because of credits on Habbo. You'll be surprised by the amount of PM's I get with people thinking Habbox is actually Habbo. Of course these a new and most likely young people but also the people we want to attract and keep. But I'll see what others think...

If you are going to keep the credits name then I'd call them Habbox credits so no-one gets confused. Even now, if you say VIP, some people assume we're buying them Habbo VIP rather than giving them HxF VIP. Alternatively, a different name could be used like Habbo have 'duckets' (although not that, cos it sucks) where you can't get muddled up with Habbox/Habbo.

I actually somewhat agree with this. A lot of the times guides get posted anyway but having them in a section with how to complete games/mazes that is hosted by either Habbo or other fansites which have a badge at the end of it all.
Posting around the forum - Earns 5 Credits
Creating Threads - Earns 10 credits
Donating to the site - Earns 150 credits
Adding someone as a friend - 2 credits
Creating Polls - 10 credits
Voting in a poll - 5 credits
Referring someone to the site - 100 credits
Winning Competitions - Ranges from 50-1000 credits
Birthdays - Earns 25 Credits
Users will also receive credits for thing such as:
Member of the month - 3000 credits
Weekly Top poster - 500 credits
@habbox.com email - 1500 Credits
2 weeks FREE VIP - 1500 Credits
2 weeks FREE VIP+ - 2000 Credits
6 months FREE Donor - 5500 Credits
6 months FREE VIP - 7000 Credits
Permanent Donor - 30000 credits
Exclusive Name Colour 10000 Credits
That sort of thing
Will need to speak to some others about what we want people to be able to get credits what and what they can spend them on. The only issue I ahve with what your posted is probably the @Habbox.com email is most likely a no go.

If an administrator doesn't log on weekly like you say (I have no idea) then he or she has to be fired. Surely there is someone about to do that. I'm sure Matt can. If Jin says he can't then he should just tender his resignation because his role is pointless if he has no say.

e.g

150c = her changing her relationship status to being with you (very common)
200c = the bottle trick (extremely common)

That's going to want to make people register!

Term noob = newb = new player.
It is true that you would almost certainly be a new player if you got confused and thought "Habbox Credits" meant "Habbo Credits".
Being realistic.
Noob is a derogatory term.

Noob =/= to newb. Newb(ie) is the correct term when talking about a new user whereas noob is simply a minor insult.

Noob always has been and always will be internet slang for newb/newbie.

Sorry for causing such an issue over using the term noob instead of newb.
I'll remember to not be so insulting next time
Inseriousity.

He's actually right. I don't think people read threads, see someone has used the term 'noob' and decide not to register but as a whole, the general attitude towards newer members seems to be about how "irrelevant" they are or how much they troll + spam and trying to mould people into some bizarre notion of maturity that hardly any younger Habbo users are ever going to achieve (the young members we do have are on average far mature than you would expect for their age group, thinking of people like Shaz and runeaddict99). The irony being that maturity and wisdom would acknowledge that the immaturity of youth is not something that needs to be stamped out of them but that energy can be used to improve, not diminish, the community in general.
As regards to calling them points, Habbox tournament generally uses the term points and that clash might also get confusing.

I dont think runeaddict99; is very* mature but leave youngsters alone geez. :P

Would be easier to substitute the term 'points' in future tournaments rather than avoid using it for this system. eggs for easter, pumpkins for halloween, etc.
Inseriousity.

That is the norm. we'll be using easter eggs for easter this year. hxss though uses points.
there is nothing wrong with the habbox credits name imo.

You do understand =/= means not equal to, right? Seems you don't know a lot.
Great attitude by the way, that'll get the forum going.

I think Habbox Credits is fine - call them HxCreds if you really want to avoid confusion (although that sounds bad!)

Was gonna say just call them HC (Habbox Credits).. but then people would think it's Habbo Club. But yeah I don't agree with them being called just Credits, because it'll cause confusion - especially if you, you can buy 5 credits on Habbo for 500 credits on the forum or something.

Yeah you can't just call them credits, or there would definitely be confusion (I would get confused myself)
I can see it now...
First Prize: 200 credits and 150 credits!
Second Prize: 150 credits and 50 credits!
Third Prize: 50 credits!
(Which witch is which? :S)

So it's either:
Habbox Credits/Hx Credits or Points, unless someone can come up with a better name?

HabboxPoints/Points/HP
or Tokens/HxTokens/HabboxTokens
Definitely not Credits or it will get confused with normal credits on habbo, even habbox credits would confuse some people haha
