All I can say is I wish I was him.
That is amazing
Admirable but stupid.
I bet he did that knowing it would get him in the papers for free publicty, then the site would be worth more.
EDIT: there layout sucks balls, big time.
it would take 2 667 months to make that much via advertising
I'm sorry, but the owner is an rtard.
he added me on myspace
OMG rofl. http://www.sharpenews.co.uk/sn/
LOOK WHO IS BEING ADVERTISED!
Lol, none other than Ryannelson!
xD
(the connecthosting)
Woah hes lucky... :P
8.5?!?! anyway cool
i agree with his reasoning for not doing but with 8million you could easily remake it bigger and alot better
CAn't believe this.
I had a job there and i left

WOW, After being in the press they got 45 THOUSAND hit PER HOUR.
I seriously wish I was him.
did i read that right? did he refuse the offer??
why the **** would any sane 17 year old turn down £8.5 million?
If i was him, i would accept that offer. As BBC would proably realise there are proably many more sites like that or something very soon and will not still offer him. But good luck to him.
yh i wudnt care if the bbc ruined it i would have 8.5million in my poket could easily set up another site!
I think it's a lot of crap he was offered £8.5 million, you'd NEVER turn that down.
And you may want to know that it's the Daily Mail who exagerate everything, so yeah, dream on my son.
Want a point they've done completly wrong as the Daily Mail are failed themselves?
Oh right, so a guy called Nick suddenly gets his name changed to Luke aye?Quote:
Luke's mum, Liz, a dinner lady, and his dad Ian, an optician, both 42, say they let him run the business under his own steam without meddling.
If a guy that old was offered £8.5 million, it would be all over the place. But instead it's tucked away in a piece of paper, in a napkin, in a wrapper, in a bag, in a cupboard on that Daily Mails site who are honestly **** at their job.
btw, I put **** there myself. :)
Edit: How can a company ran by a 17 year old make £2,500 if one, the guy is not old enough to be running legal businesses and two, I see the same advert there all the time I go on. People are so easy to brainwash. Example is the Pentagon and the Twin Towers. Research it or watch the film and you'll get my hook.
You can be 16 to run an online business I think..
Anyway, the guy obviously knew if he turned down that offer, he would be getting a loads more hits which he is so now it's worth a load more.
Think about it.. he's a clever guy.
scotty sorry going have to burst your bubble owing a business is like 12 in canada and i believe 14 else were. idk about the ads tho
CEO = Cheif Executive Officer
A CEO of a company MUST be 18 years or older. You can start a little stupid hosting company from a reseller and think you're the top of the world, but it's not a full company. In order for the BBC to buy a website like that, the website would need to be fully copyrighted and registered. it's like buying drugs, they're illegal unless subscribed.
Might be 12 in Canada, but it's completly different over here. :)
Scott.
In regard to your last post:
You said they would need to be fully copyright and registered. My parents own two buisness' and I have a fair idea about this type of thing. I may be misinterpriting this but I believe you mean must be registered as a Limited Company. If so, you have to be making a certain amount of revenue per annum before you can apply to be a fully recognised limited company.
Right, so getting about 50 more hits from people reading a story out of the recycling bin of the daily mail site will make you ALOT more money than £8.5 million? Nope. You cannot make more than £8.5 million through advertising, pal.
Yep, my Dad owns a company. Didn't say they didn't have to have certain revenue percentages. :)
Some people don't get business.
They offered 8.5 BECAUSE they can make more.
you really think the BBC are interested in making 0.02p a click from AdSense? No.
he looks like he has no life. i wouldn't turn down that much.
Some of you people are ******s, it has to be said.
The obvious reason for turning down the 8.5 million is because he KNOWS it can make more. Why else would the BBC want it?
Also. You dont have to be 18 to own a LTD company. My brother is 17 and owns a legally registered LTD company.
adam could do it
It seems to me that he didnt want to sell Sharpenews because its an integral part of his brand image and he believes he can build up his main company. Dont pretend that he knew what he was doing because if that was his plan it was stupid because there was no guarantee of media coverage. Hes an idiot because he could use that money to reinvest into the company. Also why are the BBC paying 8 million for a simple news site..
I dont see why the BBC would want that "/ I wouldnt be bothered if the BBC ruined it, your getting 8.5million
To advertise bbc etc put their news on it
At the end of the day he turned down that much money its all his choice all i say to him is Good luck.
It would take the BBC almost 300 years to recover that money, if they wanted to keep it as it is.
You have to be 16 to own a Limited Company, earning over £4000 a month.
