Is your 360 using an Ethernet cable or Wireless Network Adaptor?
it's all wired.
go into your router settings, usually using the address: http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.2.1 or, alternatively go to Start > Run > type "cmd" then when in the command prompt, type "ipconfig" and use the "Default Gateway" as the address.
post when you are on the settings.
You will need to reconfigure the connection settings on xbox live, where exactly does it fail connecting? (do a connetivity test).
got em
Ok, make sure that in the settings that your:
DHCP Server is Enabled.
NAT is Enabled.
UPnP is Enabled.
completely lost me :(
What make is the router? xD
netgear FS605 v3
ok.
look about in your settings for the three things I listed above.
Enable them, and it should work.
I have a belkin, so I cannot direct you on where to look for them.
ok :) thank u very much, +rep
edit: cant find settings for it anywhere, apparently its plug and play
On your PC go to Start > Run (or press "window" key + r) > Type "cmd" and press enter > Type "ipconfig /all" and post the results here.
Hmm ok, all seems fine. Have you tried using a different ethernet port. Are there any lights on the router and to they flash on the one the 360 is plugged into?
Just found this on a website:
1. Go on the Dashboard of your Xbox 360 console to “System” area then “Network Settings” then “Restore To Factory Defaults" and when it ask you to apply settings select "test Xbox Live"
2. Turn the router off then turn it back on after couple of seconds, by that I mean to unplug it from the wall socket then reconnect it back.
3. If it's a Wired connection Just try once more to "Test Xbox Live Connection"
4. If it's still not working, set the DNS (primary & secondary) with the same number of the Gateway on the IP settings, then go on the Dashboard of your Xbox 360 console to “System” area then “Network Settings” then "Edit Settings" you'll find the gatway on the IP settings put it the same on the Primary & secondary DNS.
5. If it's not working still, then you have to go to your PC and get the DNS Server Address from there as mentioned before, and set it manually on the Dashboard.
afraid not, always fails at the IP check. :(
You tried manually putting the DNS and all that info into the 360? (The info you got from ipconfig).
Yep. no difference in the error.
IP routing enabled..................no
could that mean anything?
no difference ;(
yep, same as pc :( +rep for help :P (spread)
adding info: seems to be something to do with the IP, as when one is connected, the other cant - and 360 always fails the IP test..
is there an easy way i an enable it? :)
edit: it is enabled :(
I'm honestly stuck.
I can't understand why it doesn't work if DHCP is enabled.
Sorry.
Took you long enough to say :P
Set the IP address settings to Auto in the Xbox settings, make sure the PPoE user name and password is blank on your Xbox. If the test fails after doing that you may have entered an IP address that is not part of the routers network.
Also, who is your ISP?
I have an idea. First of all I need to know if live works when just the 360 is plugged into the switch (do this and turn the switch off and on then try live). If it doesn't then my idea is obsolete so no point spending time making a post on it.
yes it connects properly when its plugged in by itself :)
Just to check, is the modem plugged into the end port?
ie.

yes :)
Right, well try configuring your PC for networking. Go to my network places > Set up a small home or office network. Follow the prompts until you get to the part asking about internet connections. Choos the option about another PC being connected to the interned not the one saying "this pc connects directly to the internet". Follow all the prompts to fininish and restart it.
It's a shot in the dark, but it may work.
Im afraid not, I really appreciate all this help though
