I had worse luck.

Was at ape atol, was poisined, didnt notice, my ring of life teleported me to falador, ran to bank to quickly get an antipoisin, drank it, but poisin hit me just as I drank it. Died and paid 500k for a broken dharok helm.

Actually i dont think you would give it back as there would be no proof of who's it was.

You would keep it because if you gave it back , you are basically giving away 300k or whateve rit is.

unless he was there at the same time as someone else with a Dh helm.

if he came across it and nobody was around at the time... finders keepers in my opinion

Ouch, you should use protect item the whole time, you can recharge your prayer there anyway.
If somebody lost his dh helm I would keep it, even if somebody ony lost a dds or black dhide body I would keep it, they shouldn't have died so it's not my problem and I can't be bothered to find that person.
