    Ah well, to be honest, I guess we all know really. If you are dead and your brain has shut down we cant physically or mentally feel anything.

    So your telling me i wouldn't know when im dead? well actually thats quite accurate, i wouldn't know anything.. why BECAUSE IM BLOODY DEAD. as is the chicken in this case.

    The egyptians were far crueler to there kings than kfc are to the chickens if you can still feel when your dead (how your alive and feeling when dead i dont know, but you seem to think somehow we are), The chickens dont have the brains ripped out threw there noses as they did.

    Ezzie: actualy your being confused by more propaganda's, chickens dont have particularly sencative beaks, like most pecking animals, the end of there beak is comprised of hard dead tissue. Its only in animals like ducks, which use the bill for feeling for things where the beak is sensative. Maybe people should read up on bills a bit more, wikipedia is a good start?

    And sorry dear but evolution doesn't happen because we're told to do stuff lol. That's like saying we should all be superb innate mathematicians because our ancestors were taught maths. Your arguments are all flawed.
    He's a muppet- he puts us hippies to shame :@

    Ezzie, sorry I didn't reply to yours but even if we weren't originally predators, I don't think there's much of an argument to say that we're not now. Also, I'm not entirely sure on this so do correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought that wisdom teeth (which we as a species are outgrowing now) were originally for tearing at raw meat - hence why they're now not something that everyone has, because we no longer eat raw meats. Similarly (although really.. conversely), it's been theorised that the appendix was used to help digest leaves and other vegetation, which seems to further your idea of our ancient ancestors eating mainly plants. So god knows where science and evolution were going with them.
    No problem man, not too sure on wisdom teeth, theyre near the back of the mouth- thus chewing meat= higher risk of choking- mother natures **** ups

    Yeah, the theory goes, that the appendix was used to consume grass and leaves- although grass/leaves has a lack of nutrients it's plentifull so it must have been a good survival aspect when vegetation was scarce and possibly other animals were scarce (such as drought etc)

    rofl, so when you're dead you still feel stuff? If that's the case then let whatever happens to dead bodies happen, because naturally rotting can't be a pleasant experience. While we're at it, let's legalise necrophilia so the dead can have some nice sensations too.

    Also, me being self-centred has nothing to do with this debate. Whilst it's true that everything I do is for me (and by the way, I believe that everything ANYONE does is for themselves), that doesn't make my facts and/or opinions any less relevant.

    Dead = brain stops functioning.

    Brain = Has mental states

    Mental states = Pain, happyness, joy (emotions) + immpressions (things we see expernece.

    If brain dont work. it dont have mental states. hence brain isnt feeling pain or anything else, as that feeling is what mental states are, and brain has to be alive for it to have them.

    Comprendy?

    I'm pretty positive chickens use their beaks for foraging - basically using their beaks as their "hands" per say

    Pain of debeaking

    The pain is comparable to having a human fingernail removed by the quick of the nail; it is acute, yet brief and after a few minutes the bird behaves normally. It is essentially an amputation and carries many of the same symptoms that happen in human amputations. For example, leading animal welfare expert Dr. Ian Duncan states that: “There is now good morphological, neurophysiological and behavioural evidence that beak trimming leads to both acute and chronic pain.”[1]
    No amputation is 100% successful and neuromas can occur if the procedure is not done correctly; the temperature of the blade, the angle of the cut and the age of the bird especially, are all factors in a successful debeaking. Research from 1996 showed that micro-neuromas were present in all beaks of a moderately trimmed population after 10 weeks, but after 70 weeks all neuromas had disappeared. After several weeks the nerve fibers of the beak simply regrow and the neuroma regresses. These neuromas had been assumed to indicate chronic pain in early studies, but the fact that these neuromas resolve over time means that the pain is not chronic (by definition).

    Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debeaki...n_of_debeaking

    States that it is the similar pain to have a fingernail ripped out- painful but goes within minutes, thus a chickens beak is sensitive.

    Problem goes when debeaking isn't performed correctly =

    Either as a sense of duty, or because YOU care for your brother, or because it makes YOU feel good to help someone.

    edit: this is off topic and more about psychology/anthropology/sociology or something, so leave this point for now. Question it in a new thread if you really must.
