Trouble is Dan that the shortened version of the word Pakistani is extremely offensive to the people of that nation and this is supported by almost every dictionary you look in in which 100% say that it is a derogatory term. It has nothing to do with being proud of your country.

It may be short for pakistani, but it is used as an insult. It's like how any of the swear words are swear words... because they just are. They're offensive to people. They're insulting. As is the word that has been filtered. It is used as an insult.
