The whole point of the reputation system is to earn reputation around the forum. If people can just buy rep and have +50 rep power or whatever, then they haven't gained a reputation on the forum have they?

People that have a high rep power by posting, staying on the forum for years, will have a reputation therefore making the rep system work.

It's not all about the buying reputation. They did this to prevent the pointless reputation.
