I dont think this thread needs much more discussion, I don't know why anyone said anything about an ftp program (or "programme") but that has nothing to do with what he asked.

The domain in the username cannot be shorted, the only solution is adding a new domain as an addon domain to your account and you can create e-mails for it and I think you should be able to create ftp usernames using it (the solution).
