    no it isn't "utter junk" it isn't law but stores have implemented it

    Wot none of the shops by me are like that.

    All are 18 although only the supermarkets as in asda tesco and that id you ;s

    They do it in rough areas to stop underage drinking. Most 16 year olds have mates that are 18/19 so they just get them to buy booze for them. I know that's what we used to do.

    I agree though, it is a bit shocking.

    Actually they can refuse to sell you alcohol despite that you look old enough, you have legitimate ID and you demand it. They reserve the right to refuse you alcohol if they believe it will contribute to illegal drinking or aid in committing any other offence.

    yeah that happened to me in Sainsburys.. they wouldn't serve me because my mate who was with me looked underage.. (he didn't have ID) they refused to serve me :|

    Never had this experience. But say someone looked about 15 and I went into a supermarket with his dad. Would they refuse to sell it to him because of his son?

    No

    If someone is 18-21 and goes in with a 16-17 year old then they normally refuse.
