If I get a Virus etc, I just do a reformat straightaway. Takes like 4 hours to backup, reformat, reinstall, restore.

I know of quite a few people who reformat when they have a virus, but usually if you have protection it will prevent anything from happening. There are fake prank viruses out there that try to get people to reformat just to be a nusiance really. You should only reformat if you think your PC is in danger.

I use BitDefender Total Security 2010. You should try Anti Malwarebytes and run it in safe mode - it usually detects most stuff that other antivirus scanners miss

LOL. If he has a virus he has a virus, any idiot can tell the difference between the real and 'fake' ones, especially when they come up looking like Windows XP alert boxes when the OS is something like Vista or 7

NOD32 has been proven to be *~*the best*~*

But what im saying is reformating your computer everytime you get an infection can be time consuming and also can be a waste of time. If you want to be 100 percent sure reformart it but its just a basic virus most avs should remove it completley.

When I said fake I did not mean pop-ups. There has been known cases if I'm correct of viruses that don't actually do anything, there main purpose really just to get people to think they have a bad infection as their antivirus picks it up, and so they reformat for no reason, some possibly loosing stuff if they haven't backed up.

I agree. I think its recommended to reformat your computer every 6 months or 1 year or something anyway.

If the Virus is FUD, then it will still be on the system.
