Yeah they are never forced into a competition, except when they make it. My point is that the media tries to make competition and rivalries with female artists without any involvement of the artists involved. You didn't answer the question at all. Like Bjork said, which I quoted in the OP:

I thought it was really weird and unfair when M.I.A. and Joanna Newsom were asked about Lady Gaga and then because they didn’t like her music, it was immediately big news online and they had to shoot each other down.

It’s like the three new, most happening female pop girls, the same kind of age, and they had to shoot each other down! Guys are never asked to do that. It’s just ‘the more, the merrier’, you know?

So many people are missing the point, this thread is such a fail LOL

With all of those examples, those men were the ones that actually created those feuds themselves. I'm talking about the way the media tries to create tension between female artists, for example the old Britney VS Christina rivalry that was created by the media, even though both ladies always spoke very highly of each other in public. Why is our society so desperate to see cat fights? It's so ridiculous.

People like drama because it is exciting, the media has a habit of making something out of nothing so that ultimately they make more profit.

Yeah but why are female artists generally targeted over males?

    Do you hold feminist values?
I can't think of any examples off the top of my head apart from Britney and Christina which started over 10 years ago. There is often rivalry between boy bands in the media.

Sugababes have just popped into my head but that was largely rumours.

Only recent girl on girl music rivalry I can think of is Nicki Minaj vs Lil Kim and no-one even cared about that because Lil Kim's been doing nothing for years and Nicki is just a gimmick. Also that was started by the artists themselves not the media. You say that females are generally targetted over males but there's only one example that comes up apart from the MIA interview which was definitely not big news unless you're an avid MIA fan or one of those freaks who goes on a murder spree whenever the slightest word again Gaga is mentioned.

No? LMAO. Just something I've noticed?

If you read any music blogs or forums etc, people are always writing about and comparing women, who's "copying" who, and they are harsher in general on females. I don't get it.
