I think that there will always be a difference in opinion between some people when it comes to the filter, however its something that is constantly discussed and its been brought up a lot over the years. Not everyone will be happy with it, however the important thing is finding a balance.

In my opinon the filter is working fine at the moment, I think the changes made previously to relax some of the abbrevations was a good move, however there has to be a line, and they will have decided what is and what is not acceptable when the changes happened last time.

I don't see it as a huge issue, and I think the balance is quite good at the moment and it seems to be doing the trick since we are giving out far less warnings for such offences these days compared to say 2010 when I was a Super Moderator. Its a lot more relaxed now, but to a point where it is still safeguarding the use of terms which may offend and appear as rude to other members, and also make the forum look and feel a negative place.

Unless a lot of people agree that there needs to be any changes, then I see no issue with the filter at the moment really and think it is quite fair. I will of course listen to any suggestions though however if there are any major concerns about it.

I agree with the current filtering though, the targetting ones should be blocke dout but the rest are signs of exasperation that most people type without even thinking.
Is *** really filtered? Or did you say something else. What, it actually is.

Ok @Martin; c.b.f. isn't targeting someone - why is that filtered as well :S.

yeah cant be ****** is filtered when that doesn't seem to make sense if it really is targetting swear acronyms...

Yeah it doesn't, "c.b.f." is more of a "personal use" word. It doesn't target people in many, many situations. Just implies you're too lazy to do something tbh

Context and intentions are important. B.S isn't offensive and is there literally to avoid you having to say it out in full. It's sort of the point of acronyms, especially harmless ones such as GT.FO and B.S. I don't get the logic behind why they are filtered when they're harmless, appropriate and far from rude. The Guardian even uses ** because the acronym itself has evolved from literally avoiding the use of bull <poo> to becoming a word in itself to mean that something someone is saying is far from the truth.

As for GT.FO, it's fine in the spam forum. You could warn a user or edit a post if used pointlessly in other forums which it can't anyway. Usually when people say GT.FO it's literally just that, they don't say anything else - if they do then the post isn't pointless and is fine.

Oh oh, I know a use But I won't say it in polite company

When will DI.CK be unfiltered? So long as we can say "Suck my penis" filtering DI.CK is pointless.

I knew you'd have an opinion upon curse words/acronyms, I was just recalling the debate (I believe) over how offensive "swear words" are in society, and they're not that offensive now as you mentioned here and most likely in there.
@laura; I'm not that lazy . Not letting this go 'till I get "c.b.f." back at least. I would like to have one word unfiltered at least

I find filtering acronyms pointless when it's sort of their duty to save you from appearing rude by using simple letters. Leave the big swears filtered, but words like the D word and WTF, B.S, GT.FO and C.BF should be left alone, they can't be taken as offense in any society, unless you find acronyms deeply disgusting and assume the letters are rude when What The Flip could be what people are saying, who knows?

Also, doesn't Habbo use a "rude" acronym as part of their Friday campaigns? Something like Thank F it's Friday.

No, What The Fudge of course. (I actually switch to "fudge" irl if I don't want to offend someone ). Mhm and I can agree with your initial point about acronyms being there to reduce the offence received by a person anyway - alongside less characters to type obviously, looks like I am lazy @laura; .

Not sure where I stand on the D word (I hope we're thinking about the same word...) tbh haha.
