But the reason for not having a -rep counter seems to be that it creates a negative atmosphere on the forum, but the source of that negative atmosphere is negative rep. If negative rep is creating this bad atmosphere and is the cause of arguments then why have the ability to -rep in the first place ?

The same applies to +rep though as well .

never the less guys, can i also just add the +rep thing was a custom plugin by wee hoteluser afaik, The -rep would have to be coded, no one can do that other than Jin maybe on the team, Skynus and chippiewill still have v7 to finished, no point adding more to the plate.

Which is then picked up by a moderator and dealt with accordingly. It's not something that happens often anyway.

its not a visible negative atmosphere I think was the point. If a scrap goes on behind the scenes between Alex and Martin that isn't going to have any impact on the events staff morale. If they had the argument in the eo staff forum then it's already a different story. As you said, -rep is very rare and I imagine, after a novelty thing where it spikes up, it would go back to normal if it was added but imo it sounds like you're just having a debate for the sake of it here.

Well there's nothing anyone can do about that. Even if -rep was completely taken out of the picture, arguments would still occur and negative atmospheres would still be created. All we can do is try to minimise it by keeping -rep private and moderating all arguments revolving around -rep.

Either way, you're more likely to rep someone if you see other people have also repped it (either way) and by not counting the -rep out "loud" then you create a more positive atmosphere. I vote for just +rep

+rep can cause just as much arguments and negativity. you've seen how someone attacks another then they get 10 or so repping them for it, just makes the person who was being attacked feel like **** knowing everyone's repping them for it lol it would be fairer to have a -rep symbol too to show that just coz someone got ten rep for being a ****, there are other people who have minus repped it, either tht or not show any at all

idk if it's been problem but i know i don't feel very good if even one person is repping someone who has made a negative post towards me :p now imagine that for ppl where others are getting 10+ reps... i get repped more for mean comments i make than helpful tbh so rep isn't always use positively really
