wouldn't three permanent smods solve that problem instead of having to make acting roles whenever someone goes away?

i haven't been in the department myself but i can't see why it wouldn't be a good idea to have more than two

No because we don't need three as two people get the job done as it needs to be. I only use the acting title if someone goes away for the full 3 weeks, which isn't very often.

Anyway I don't see why some people are against the acting role. It gives people the chance to get a feel for a job that they may take on in the future, which makes it less daunting. If either of the smods go away for a long period of time again then I intend to give the other moderators the same chance and experience.

I understand the worry of having too many staff when they need to be paid, but volunteers?
