The Scots should like him, after all, it was they who imposed a huge Labour majority (and Brown) on England in 2005.

It's not a resignation, it's a political statement of intent.

He's going to step aside as FM to allow for a successor. The headline "resignation" is simply to cast him in the light that now he's lost, there's no point in him being there and is going to walk away now. He'll still be a politician within the SNP and he'll still be actively campaigning for a better, stronger Scotland.

I wouldn't be surprised if the SNP are pushing towards him being the Deputy FM... He's a good leader, the kind of guy I wish was Prime Minister, somebody who doesn't take any crap and questions any allegations with a counter-fact.

What a way to spin a resignation, you would do well in a political spin.

He resigned, with honour. And there's nothing wrong with that, many politicians have resigned on principle after either winning or losing.

Nah I do respect the fact he's not going to run for another four years as FM (spin spin) on the eve of a big policy for him. The way he was talking about the 1.6 million people who voted Yes compared to those 1.9 million people who voted No was the alarm bells for me.
