This is why I disagree with it, it's why the General Manager disagrees with it and it's why the Forum Manager disagres with it. Jin also raises a very good point of the filter being used for security reasons too which enhances the argument against an optional filter. Let's remember even if there was an optional filter you will still get an increase in the amount of astericks, so it'll look silly as Jin demonstrated within the other thread.
No one has mentioned getting rid of the filter or making it optional, most of the main points are directed at the validity of the management arguments that the word is rude, when in actual fact it's quite a poor word - it's used in the media a few times though very rarely.

Yes, I've seen arguments on this forum and yes a lot of them are mature but a lot of them aren't mature. People don't tend to avoid the filter in arguments they just tend to swear (and obviously it gets filtered). People who avoid the filter tend to be swearing in a more humorous way. I don't think the word dick would be used in a heated argument but I do think it would be used a lot in spam when people get pissed off or even in a joking manner - not everyone is going to view the word in the same way and some may take offence. Therefore it makes everyone's life easier for them to just say it and it get filtered. Let's remember, there's nothing stopping you swearing (unless you are being rude), it just gets filtered. I will swear in posts occasionally and it gets filtered, I'm fine by that.
And I've used this forum for 6 years and never come across people having strong desires to use the D word offensively or in heated discussion You yourself have said it may be used in a joking manner, perhaps alongside already unfiltered words which are used in ruder instances than the alternative-retro word for penis. It's not offensive, it's less offensive than words that are at this moment unfiltered and rarely used. I do not see where you are getting this idea that it's the Devil's word and could bring Habbox Forum's community to its knees with bad words, when the word isn't offensive and if people do take offense they should probably transport themselves back somewhere in the past.

Has someone said that? I've not seen anyone mention it's never used to mean penis yet in this thread.

Out dated as a swear word like "dick head" m'dear, the sentence before puts it into that context rather than the penis context

Dionne you're not allowed post here, we all know women aren't entitled to an opinion .

I'm not really fussed once my website is unfiltered but at the same time I can only imagine how pissed someone called d!ck would be if they signed up to the forum.

This is actually quite a good point and if we go back to basics I do not feel, personally, that the word should be filtered as it is pretty mild especially if we are more lenient in wtf, lmfao, etc. If it is abused in an inappropriate way (which is usually sexual) there is a penalty for that i.e.inappropriate remarks. If it is used in name calling then is also a penalty for that i.e. being rude to others. If penis are not filtered then I see no argument for this to be in the filter as this phrase is in common use even with the younger members. Appreciate I am in a minority here but the management do allow us to have our own opinions, luckily.

Yeh it is silly. I will just echo everyone's points here. I can equally call someone a penis head, which is an exact same insult as a d!ck head. D!ck is such a irrelevant term nowadays, that I don't know why it's even filtered.

I don't see the excuse "oh it'll take so much more fuss and moderation". You are acting like the whole forum is going to start using this word and the moderation team would go haywire. That seems a very delusional view. Most people on this forum will use it responsibly just like we use wtf, ffs or what not in a responsible way (I remember you guys denying those too ).

@Rosie: I don't think you are in the minority here, you are in the majority of non-management people who have sense, whilst reasons for this nonsensical denial of such a word are simply silly.

You do not get harcore swearing on any unencrypted TV Channel until after the watershed at 9pm and then it is not that common. You can get hardcore swearing on encrypted channels such as Sky but only with a pin number. You do not get hardcore swearing in any media related content online or in newspapers. There is a film classification board to classify ages on films etc. etc. Need I go on? I am definitely not in favour of lifting the whole filter. That would be out of step with the rest of world in respect of written content.
