    Cheers btw

So you should take an offer like that (unless you have good advertising ideas to help SM grow to a maintainable level) and use the money to work on a really good business idea.

Perhaps go into hosting, but make it a proper hosting business (E.G. Registered company..)? If you even think about that though, donīt use habbo as your seat to advertise

    And no worries!

    • That may be what you believe, but I completely dissagree. Calum has not helped me earn investment for my business, my past projects have. Several of my previous sites have been popular and have proven that myself and Greg have what it takes to create a successful website that can make a profit. No investor will give a 17 year old a bunch of cash just because he worked with someone. That's a very silly comment to make.
    • We've only made start/stop projects whilst we were employed at Youemo as we had no need to commit to the websites. They simply existed to help us gain some publicity and then make a profit.
    • The average age of people at the conference (speaking wise) was probably 17-18, perhaps 19. The point of the conference is to have teenage speakers, so the fact I'm only 17 is a moot point.
    • My speaker bio explains that I've worked for a popular social network, I've created sites that have been on Mashable and I'm now working on a new site. It also links to my Twitter where you could easily find out about my newer projects. It's your fault if you make incorrect comments without doing a little bit of research first.
    • ROI are only forecasts - it's not set in stone and I wasn't talking about in the future, I was talking about now money earned.
    • What sites? Mini-i? No ta. You got the job at Youmeo because you knew Greg, and Greg introduced you to Calum who was/is one of the best young entrepreneurs in the country (arguable, I know). I think you're wrong but that's not for me to say. It's not a silly comment to make at all. If you've got a track record working with successful entrepreneurs then it's a fantastic thing to have and something that employees/investors etc will take on boards because they know that to work with them you have to have skills. You got the break at Youmeo - that's the luck I'm talking about. I'm not doubting your skills.
    • Fair point but that takes me back to the public domain - I've known nothing of your work within the past 2 months but if you care to show me then I'm willing to retract my points. Until then, it stands that you cannot commit to one project from my point of view.
    • Fair point again - in which case, though, the conference must've been pretty small scale with small scale (in contrast) investments to keep some of the more interesting, innovative projects alive and to give the investors a wider portfolio (which again looks good when wanting to invest in anything).
    • I'm an active user of the web and innovative, new, unique websites that probably don't have the audience they deserve - is it my fault that non of your sites have come across my surfing? Not really. If I have to follow your twitter to get access to some URL's you've been working on then that ain't too good. However, I will follow your twitter and if it's anything more than "i've been working on this" then I'll retract this whole statement. However, I suspect it's a string on those type of updates showing screenshots of designs etc - nothing actually made. It always seemed to be the case.

I'm not replying anymore because you've told me to do my research, which I will happily do as I've mentioned - I'm an avid fan of new, innovative, unique websites - which you and Greg do.

The idea of SearchMerge is being incorporated into Zood (aggregated search). We're also developing 19sites in our spare time at the moment which will eventually be a hosting company. Though we're obviously focusing on Zood at the moment and then once a beta is out we will start work on 19sites during any amount of spare time we have. We're also trying to step back from the Habbo world a bit which is why we aren't talking about Zood that much here.

    • Calum wouldn't have hired me if I didn't have the skills. What part of that can't you understand? If Greg referred me and I turned up with terrible code or a bad attitude etc, I wouldn't have been offered the job.
    • I've been working on Zood for the past two months so obviously I can't prove that unless I send you our business plan, etc which I can't obviously do.

They're the only points I can bother making as otherwise this will just keep going around in circles. All I'm saying is before you claim I don't deserve a place at the conference you should have at least taken a look at my bio or clicked the link. People didn't have to know my name for me to speak there, my presentation would've made them know who I am and given a reason for me to be there. For example, I had no idea who made the Million Dollar Homepage and I would've had no clue if someone told me his naem but he was in the conference and he was great.

Well twitter has revealed some interesting things - it seems as though whether you did or not deserve a place at the conference - you didn't get it so why you are campaigning that you deserve a place is beyond me. I shall, however, download your speach and listen to it then talk to you in person. It seems more appropriate.

On the note of Calum hiring you - no, he wouldn't of. But THOUSANDS of other people probably have on par or above skills than you. That's the problem with this industry - no contacts, nearly no hope. Which is unfortunate.

I offered not to speak as if I did the organisers would get in trouble due to the conf. over-running. I thought it was fair for me not to speak instead of some poor other person simply because I got to pitch Zood earlier in the day.

Also, that's the same as every other competitive industry Adam. Greg referred me, I went for an interview (which Greg wasn't at by the way) and proved I had the skills for the job. Simple as.

It's anything but all about the contacts. If you have good skills, great creativity and have products you have produced to back you up - the contacts come to you. (eventually)

Exactly! Contacts are also part of the job, they are extremely hard to come by so it's a challenge in itself.

Actually I can and do, but not about php because I don't know anyone that is on this forum.

I know only 1 person that's better than me at php and he taught me a large portion of the basic stuff when I was learning.

I'm sorry, but I'm really not sure how you would know about contacts in the real world, interviews, or anything.. when you're (as we call it in the south) probably a "young'n" yourself.

I mean, you're offering advice and criticism, when your main job is an "Event Organiser" on a Habbo fansite.
