Just tried the server out and it's unbelievably laggy for me.

If lag does become an issue ill look into hosting it somewhere else.

I went on earlier and opening the crafting box and stuff was really lagging. Annoyed me a lot and same with placing blocks. Annoyed me so much so i just left D:

It wasn't laggy on our first night, then it steadily got laggier as the (irl) night progressed. Anyway... I think the place where we built stuff is creeper grounds. Our first earth house was surrounded by creepers and then there was no dirt in the area. :S:S Thanks for fixing it though, looked hideous.

I think the Block logging software may have been what's causing the lag, right now chests etc are opening immediatly, so we'll see how that goes, if it gets laggy again, I'll look at moving.

Actually it went to plan. No houses burnt down due to the precautions I took, there was no need to apply a backup, we totally cleared the forest and collected a whole load of extra wood at the same time and didn't scar the landscape whatsoever. The only fail was as soon as we went offline Wiizz went and planted it again ¬_¬

Looks good, but no RAID is a bit annoying though. Surely you can manually software RAID it.

Pretty much as far as I can see, but to be honest, I've tried to host Minecraft on VPS from other places (like Thrust) and it's been like this with fewer people on.

Pretty well imo. Just gotta get some scripts setup to back it up on the hard disk frequently and recreate it on boot if the server goes down.

What's up with the random huge holes in the map? Like there's one in the middle of the sea somewhere I fell in and there's been a couple just wandering on land too, they seem to go all the way down to bed rock and are idk maybe 15x15 wide

Yeah I keep seeing them, I actually mined along the side of one to try reaching a lower part but it still won't let you in the damaged area ;| the one I fell into in the middle of the sea was especially crap as it meant I was 100% stuck and then lagged out and drowned lol

Yeh, someone *cotughom* moved the spawn from the place we were going to build a safe spawn building to within the crowded village.

Just build a flying glass thing with boundaries so they cant fall off, lights on it and on the ground beneath it, and then make a water elevator downwards. Sorted!

The dedi will already have more than twice the amount of RAM needed to host the server, and the RAM isn't what the problem was on the VPS.

It isn't a vps it's a dedicated server. A second server would only be for testing the server's ability to run two servers simultaneously. When you have the stats why waste the opportunity?

Trying to find a server with the exact specifications we need, whilst trying to avoid £50 setup charges is damn difficult, and having a server with double the specs we currently need will allow us more headroom for the time being, allowing us to do more (such as having a live Google Map with player locations etc), it will also give us more expansion room for the future. Even if it is more than we need, the deal was a good one.

I'm not sure on the secondary server either, I don't think it will see much use and as other people have said, we may aswell give up the resources to the current Minecraft server. It wouldn't have been so much cheaper anyway, I spent a long time looking for decent hosts for Minecraft before buying the new server (and actually, before when I used to host a private, invite-only one).

Tomato, we're not buying another virtual server, the new one is a fully fledged, physical server sitting in a rack in a datacenter, which we have TOTAL software control over and won't be shared with other users.

Some companies call VDS their range when they're using Xen HVM or similar for full virtualisation and only maybe 4 virtual machines per server. So it's like a big VPS really with your own kernel.

i think you should make a donator button (like i did) which links then to paypal were they can choose an amount (or you can set one) to donato to your paypal...

I'm sure you mentioned about lighting some trees within the village area, you said if you misclicked it the whole place would be on fire.
