Fast sit ups = fat burning
Slow (Much harder) situps = muscle building.

worst thing to do is do sit ups before you've burned the fat off down there, everybody has a six pack but most people's are covered by fat and haven't toned it up

i'm on road to getting one but it takes a few months, you need to

eat healthily, cut out on fatty foods
do excersises to burn fats that are there such as intensive cycling/running
then once you've burned the fats off start gradually doing pressups, situps
you should only be doing them about 3 times a week otherwise your just going to strain them, and to get a six pack it's not just situps

you should continue to eat healthily after this as well.
sit ups does burn stomach fats.

its not the most affective way of burning fats though, Thats why you do cardio first and then start building muscle because otherwise you waste time.

i think you need to re-read my post, because you've apparently misread it - please quote me where i've said that  oh, and its best to burn the fats by running/swimming/cyycling before doing sit ups, as its just pointless. not repeating myself, just read my earlier post.
