oh my god yes here we go.

I think the -rep system is abused often. I get -repped on a daily basis for no reason. The reason stated is usually something like 'shut your stupid mouth' (this -rep reason was given by a forum moderator) etc. When I reported all my pointless -rep, nothing was actually done as far as I'm aware.

This is probably a mad idea, but maybe its possible to get a new small dept or something, or more forum moderators, and all -rep is checked before the user actually receives it?

all yr -rep is perfectly valid. to be honest if i had the memory i would -rep you once a week because yr posts are pointless in every extreme.

pretty sure all your -reps are probably legit.

removing the -rep would mean having to also remove the +rep. reputation is given (and taken) for quality of posts and if somebody has a problem with your post then they have every right to -rep you. people who get -reps removed are lame imo

Sorry but is that meant to be some kind of insult? Coming from someone whos always sticking up for their department and just assuming they are always right about everything, that is really quite rich, just because catzy and chris have left doesn't mean you need to now become the new power hungry smod who just assumes that everything that their depart does is correct and shouldn't be questioned. Just consider how on earth it is fair that people can just -rep people they dislike with no valid reason, surely it's them who are taking the reputation too seriously anyway not the people reporting it.

+ @Kasabian; no cause he was actually being rude to someone? Pretty sure forum rules state that you aren't meant to be rude to other staff and put down stuff they do without valid reason ....

rep is an opinion not some kind of rule system, i don't see why just because you deem it has no reason that anyone else would deem it pointless.

you say you have reported LOADS and it's never been dealt with, you have made 2 threads reporting reputation and both of them have been sorted. You are also the only person that has reported any kind of rep that had the reason 'trying to get post count up' as far as I'm aware so I do not understand why you're saying everyone reported it when it was just yourself.

If someone continues to abuse the reputation system by reissuing -reps that have been removed then they do get warnings regarding it.

Thats valid rep though. I'm talking about when users are constantly targeted by people with a high rep power just because they don't like them.

it hasn't been that way for a long time, but in fairness there are reasons people have higher rep power than others and they have earned the right to use them as they will. i very rarely -rep (i cba).

I've had loads of rude and targeting -reps, and like I said before, some rude ones have been given to me from forum moderators. I reported it, and as far as I'm aware, it hasn't been removed.

excuse me i'm allowed to -rep who i want for a legitimate reason and that system should be ANONYMOUS even if you have VIP. i don't go out handing -rep very often so no it isn't pointless and i -repped because most the people there had been pointlessly posting all throughout the posting competition and not giving critical comments. also, pippete i'm pretty sure i've pointlessly +repped you before and i don't see you complaining about that? & you complain that pointless -rep is being given out yet you all revenge -rep me for no reason other than i did it to you even though in my opinion it was justified.

Perfectly valid. I don't think people understand what rep actually is - it's a form of user moderation allowing us to reward or punish other members (albeit in a small way that doesn't really make much difference) for their activity. Also consider that rep is short for reputation, and obviously someone just not liking you DOES impact your reputation just like people who do like you will impact it in a more positive way. With the amount of friendly crackjuice dribbling from the lips of most staff members it's extremely reasonable to assume that most of you +rep each other all the time for being friends, which is fine, but you shouldn't then suggest that -repping for not being friends is a bad thing.

lmao this definitely does not happen and has not happened since early 2007 when admittedly we did actually do this for laughs. It may well be that you've made an enemy of someone with a higher rep power than you (not really difficult is it...) but that is not justification for this statement. You are wrong, the entire premise for this thread is wrong, and everyone is free to rep whoever they like however they like.

u guys are lucky. you lost like 15 rep points which is easily regained as you've already said @Pipette;. pointless +rep used to be removed by the hundreds. people had higher reputation power and thus when -repping you would lose more than you do now. i have pages full of -rep from when i first joined and i've got a high reputation now so it CAN be achieved but you can't expect to only have +rep. you get more pointless positive rep than you do negative. seriously it used to take forever to get 6 green blocks and now i see staff who rarely post have it... you obviously all +rep each other so why even complain... all you're doing now is showing people how much you dislike -rep and obviously they're gonna carry on doing it because they know it annoys you

there's no way i'm reading 10 pages of drivel, don't even mention it so idgaf if what i say has already been mentioned (it most probably has but whatever). it's only -rep. if it's pointless, report it. if it's not removed after that, then i'm sure if you're really that bothered then you could attempt at arguing your case to get it removed. if not, then move on. i rarely -rep if i disagree with someone (last time i -repped someone was march 2011) and i've received pointless -reps since then but generally not bothered so i don't report it or 'revenge' rep. if the problem is that loads of people are -repping someone for whatever reason, then that said person could always just report the reps and argue that it falls under the targeting other members rule - but even so, if it's pointless and unjustified, then it'll get removed regardless of the amount.

seriously, i know it's a sunday n all, but 11 pages over something where the outcome is basic knowledge (and pretty straight forward) is rather blah. go sip some tea or something
