I am too!

Looks like Alonso will be champion by 2 points at this moment in time... :(

WOW what a race!

Vettel did a great job, did what he needed.
Poor call be Ferrari in my opinion.
Hamilton & Button finished on a very good high note.
Renault's of Petrov & Kubica did brilliantly today.

Unlucky Alonso, ha take that - maybe next time!

Vettel was so emotional - but wow!

SEBASTIAN VETTEL YOU ARE WORLD CHAMPION.

Nice to see the thread is still alive and well, not a fan of Red Bull but the win was full deserved, a big well done to Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel on a faultless drive today

Called Vetel to win from prior to first race, even though he lost it. Yay for Seb <3

First time Vettel has been leading the championship - what a time to do it!

Thanks to Renault for holding up Fernando!

Brilliant result, well deserved. He had something ridicolous like 10 poles this season, and if his engine had have blown up in Korea he would have won easily in my view. Awful call by Ferrari to respond to Webber, it was kind of obvious Vettel was more of a threat. Hats off to Petrov, Kubica and Rosberg for getting in the positions they did. Bet Ferrari never expected that.

23 years old. Best formula one season for along time!

Yes it was 10 poles with 5 wins over the season.

Youngest Formula 1 winner now, with Hamilton now 2nd youngest!

The rest of what you said i agree totally!

That was good though about what they said the 2008, 2009 and 2010 champions all finishing in the top 3!

Where would he even go? He's doing well for himself where he is and has RB to mentor him. Williams (maybe bar Renault) are the best team outside the championship contending teams so he won't move.

Vettel + Alonso is a partnership that would not work well... just like when Alonso was with Hamilton @ McLaren.

Hulkenburg will probably stick with Williams in my opinion.

Vettel I doubt will ever move from Red Bull, like Hamilton from Mclaren.

Formula 1 stakeholders have reached an agreement for grand prix cars to use a new type of 'green' engine from 2013.
The sport will switch from the current 2.4-litre V8s to 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engines with energy recovery systems and fuel restrictions. So another update to trying to make F1 go green... at least the cars will still have the same sort of power in the cars.

KERS is also being upgraded from 60kw to 120kw also in 2013.

I know, he did brilliant in a car which was suited to his style. An over-steering Mclaren doesn't, but in the wet conditions he shone. :)

Buttons a good driver, he just likes to have a very exact set-up. He is like Alonso in that respect. Felipe hates the set-up of Alonso-designed Ferraris.

So what you guys reckon about the Team Order rule now that it is allowed...?

I think it can have its good points and bad points but i suppose it is 2 drivers in the same team and they should help each other if needed.

I think it will be either a McLaren driver, a Ferrari Driver, a Red Bull Driver or a Mercedes driver :P

To be fair i think it will be even closer as it was last season... again it will depend on who can create the best car and which driver can get the best out of it.

Catzsy

Tbh with Hulkenburg, I swear Barrichello out performed Hulkenburg most of the season.

Not a big fan!

Ajthedragon
19-12-2010, 11:00 PM
If you look at the second half, Hulkenburg outperformed him! Since about Hungary he has been nothing more than outstanding. In addition when in the points he has suffered massive tyre degradation which ruined his 6th place in Korea and Petrov took him out in Suzuka, both in which he could have been Rubens.

What you also have to remember is that Rubens is the team leader and will generally have the car more suited to his driving style.

HULKENBERG TO REPLACE MASSA. KTY.

Force India - Sutil and Hulkenberg?
Sauber - Kobayash and Perez

Marussia Virgin Glock and d'Ambrosio

Ajthedragon

They have less than 10% I believe. I reckon McLaren will sell it and form another partnership with another company in the future. Possibly even BMW, given a history of Le Mans. Although it would be years before that happens.

Black and Red are McLaren's colours as you'd like, the same as red is Ferraris.

Ajthedragon

The cars would look pretty silly though! Maybe they'll change the colours slightly to suit all the sponsorship. Lotus-Renault are rumoured to be revealing their 2011 challenger at the Autosport Show on the 15th.

Jam

Has any more been said about a buyer for HRT? It would be nice to see some funding for them come through, don't want to see a team fold midway through a championship, or any time infact.

CJW93
01-01-2011, 05:57 PM
HRT apparently have a big sponsor apparently to be announced soon, according to Kolles it is one on Spain's biggest companies. However they may not even have a new chasis for 2011 and may have to run their 2010 challenger with small upgrades

Suspective
01-01-2011, 06:35 PM

Yeah, but they didn't think they needed any more new teams. :P

Otherwise Ajthedragon GP ftw. ;)

Jam
03-01-2011, 04:19 PM
If they didn't 'think' they needed more teams why did they open applications for a 14th team?

Ajthedragon
03-01-2011, 04:59 PM
Because they had an extra space on the grid due to US GP pulling out, and they considered the new teams this year an embarrasment. What they really want is manufactures that can just create a team and be fighting for the tops 10 places. Rather than racing teams which will build themselves up, like Manor (Virgin), Lotus and HRT.

Suspective
03-01-2011, 05:02 PM
Its as there isn't many reliable large car producing companies involved these days. So you aren't really going to get any decent teams coming in.

The only large manufacturers really involved these days are Ferrari and Mercedes.

Ajthedragon
03-01-2011, 05:08 PM

I know its not going to make a difference if you have an odd or an even number... the only difference will be how good you drive in the car & the input you give as the driver

There is also a chance they might buy out Hulkenburg from his long-term contract at force india. I think that given Kubica was their no.1 driver, they wouldn't want to replace him with someone they know little knowledge of in terms of their capability in faster cars.

The serious drivers in contention are Heidfeld, Hulkenburg, Senna and Liuzzi.

Personly, I would go with Hulkenburg, knowing he could actually win the championship. Liuzzi and Senna I think are too risky, and the old dog Heidfeld has had his day. The only problem being Hulkenburg still lacks experience himself, however this was never a problem when Lewis led Mclaren from 2008-present.

Lotus Renault GP has revised its driver line-up for this week’s test session in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Vitaly will drive the R31 on Thursday and Friday, as originally scheduled. For Saturday and Sunday, the team will give mileage to Bruno Senna and will also evaluate Nick Heidfeld, who is a potential replacement for Robert Kubica as a race driver. The exact running order for the weekend will be confirmed on Friday evening.

Taken from www.bbc.co.uk/sport:

'Nick Heidfeld will drive for Renault for the foreseeable future after it was announced that the German is to replace the injured Robert Kubica.

Pole Kubica suffered multiple fractures and a partially severed right hand in a rally crash earlier this month.

Heidfeld said: "I'm motivated and can't wait for the season to begin."

The announcement comes as no great surprise after the 33-year-old impressed in a test at Jerez in Spain, setting the fastest time on Saturday.

Heidfeld was Kubica's team-mate at BMW Sauber for three-and-a-half years from 2006 to 2009 and is a highly experienced driver, having started 172 Formula 1 races over the last 11 seasons.

"I would have liked to come back to Formula 1 in different circumstances, but I'm proud to have been given this chance," added Heidfeld.'

I personally had the gut feeling that Heidfeld would get the job when he topped the practice session at Jerez last week. Would be good to see Kubica make a return with Heidfeld, I always liked the partnership down at BMW Sauber.

Thoughts?

P.S Yeah, I spelt Heidfeld wrong. D:

Really disappointing to hear that the Sauber drivers have been disqualified, they had a brilliant race.

"This is a very surprising and disappointing result,"

"It appears that there is a question over the top surface of the uppermost rear wing element; this area is not the working surface of the component and therefore relatively unimportant to its function.

"Certainly this has not lead to any performance advantage. We are checking the design of the parts now to better.''

Sounds a bit unfair to me especially since Perez performed brilliantly today, and it has really put the team down. It isn't even the drivers fault, they would of been better just taking off the constructors points and/or issuing a fine and ordering them to fix it.

Suspective

It wasn't really, and the only reason he got a penalty was because he allegedly 'changed direction.' No doubt Ferrari had a whine and knew the punishment - so weren't to bothered (as Fernando didn't even lose a place)

I thought it was a good race today, and it was good to see Jenson pulling off a second and proving his worth. He is four points clear of Lewis now, so that has got to be something to be proud of even if its race 2. I'm really hoping that Lewis or Jenson can knock him off his perch next weekend in China, as they deserve a win. Mercedes are still doing rubbish though and putting on a pretty disappointing show. I was watching the F1 Forum, and they seemed to think that Hamilton was waiting for a call from Red Bull and ready to start negations. Lewis has also dismissed claims that he'll only be staying at McLaren during his whole career, quite rightly. They seem to think they own him and that he'll stay even if they stop being competitive. All Lewis wants to do is win championships and if there is a better offer on the table - I'm sure he'll jump at the chance as EJ said last week.

It looks like it'll be a fun weekend.

Not seen highlights yet... but seen positions they are starting from...

I'm guessing Webber had a problem with traffic or his car or had an accident (obviously i'll see once i watch the highlights)

Glad to see JB & LH in 2nd & 3rd.... Obviously Vettel came 1st again ( boring, lol :P )

I'm predicting this for the run to the first corner:

Vettel will be covering Button and Hamilton will sneak past into 1st place :)

I think Webber just had a bad session, there was nothing obvious to suggest he had any problems and traffic was non-existent.

Its going to be a good race though and hopefully Jenson or Lewis will be able to fight for a win as McLaren deserve to win a race after all the hard work they've put in. Its all about the start though, so hopefully Button can slip past Vettel. :P

Well done to Lewis & to Webber too who must have had a brilliant drive as i never thought he would get a podium finish after qualifying yesterday!

I think artificial rain could bring so much to F1. I really like the idea, I remember Silverstone one year not too long ago in the rain, that race was amazing - also it sets the true racing drivers and amateurs apart :P

But it would most definitely be seen as "fixing" the outcome.

Depending on when the button is pressed to turn it on it could ruin the front runner's race and selectively give advantage to pretty much any driver.

Great race again today, with a lot of over taking!

Its a shame that Hamilton had the problem in the pit stop & Button with the tyre strategy, but 4th & 6th is still a good points place finish.

Vettel - what can other teams do to catch up with him?!

Vettel and Red Bull ruining F1 by being so good. :(

I didn't really enjoy the race, the overtaking was too artificial.

I agree the introduction of the DRS system makes it easy to overtake & something should be done where its not as easy to overtake.

I think the Kers should stay as then it would be who can develop it the best / fastest as it is fair as both drivers will have the same technology to use.

KERs should stay because it can help hybrid technology. F1 is all about new technology's after all.

What a race....!

McLaren are really showing speed through those lower speed high curb sections...!

Will they be good in Monaco? Only time will tell!

Yep, it was a brill race today & i really though Lewis would get past Vettel during those final 10 laps or so...

Jenson did well after going back to 10th after the first corner to finish 3rd.

Regarding Monaco next week, as you say, only time will tell what will happen!

Hopefully it will be a 10 second penalty or something like that so it will not make a difference.

No penalties, just a slap on the wrist for Webber and the McLaren drivers. What we may also have to look out for in Monaco is Vitaly Petrov in the Renault, Fernando in the Ferrari or Rosberg in the Merc. They all have natural talent which makes a massive difference around Monaco.

And typically this isn't Vettel's favourite circuit, so mark should have an edge here.

Glad to see that no penalties have been given!

After todays race i cantreally predict what will happen, but it would be nice to see a renault or some others up nearer the front instead of always being Vettel

Yes. Excellent news. Yes Monaco is a very different track to all the others - power and speed are not so important. Could be interesting result.

Well what a disastrous qualifying that was. Poor Sergio, that was a massive impact; glad he's ok.

On the racing side of things, I'm utterly disappointed Lewis won't be able to compete for the win. Lets hope he does some good overtaking, he'll need to.

Vettel or Button will win the race & i also predict at least 1 safety car...

Wow! That was a great race to say its normally a boring race!

Lots of incidents too! Hope hamilton gets no penalty but then again even if he gets a 20-30 second penalty it wont make no difference to his finishing place.

Vettel was lucky at the end when the race got red flagged meaning he could sort his tyres out...

20 second penalty given to Hamilton which means he still finished in 6th place...

What a stupid unfair result. If it hadn't been for the safety car and further red flag the race was Button's. They need to change the regulation about working on cars when on the track: that result was so unfair.

And frankly after Lewis's weekend I'm not judging him on what he said (I thought it rather funny). At the end if the day I get furious sometimes and he has had the worst luck in the past two days. I thought Pastor was in the wrong for that incident, but then again Lewis needs to be able to admit when he does wrong. He has to stop blaming everyone else. Canada should see a change in fortunes... I just hope Lewis has the right frame of mind going into the next race.

And Massa and Hamilton are officially at war.

I agree that they shouldnt be able to do changes during a red flag situation & should only be done at pit stops.

Martin Whitmarsh will have or will speak to Lewis to sort him out.

Massa v Hamilton = bring it on :P
