Yes, Raikkonen, getting that point at the end! I was watching his times close down in the last few laps on the scrolling bar at the bottom, and he passed Bottas and Gutierrez is one corner it seeemed... And he got Hulkenburg at the end! The record could be his!
Well done Rosberg, Red Bull have SO much luck (Safety Car deployment + Red flag for changing tyres)... Sucks for Hammy. But Raikkonen's streak continues...

Not yet, but the Monaco result will stand because that's not what is being disputed.
As far as I'm aware, if Mercedes are right in saying they got permission from the FIA, it's all legal. But we'll see.

Bit of an update by the looks of it:
Mercedes tyre test row referred to the FIA
Mercedes' alleged breach of the Formula 1 regulations with its secret tyre test for Pirelli could now go to the FIA International Tribunal.
Following more than three hours of discussions by the Monaco Grand Prix stewards on Sunday night, they issued a statement stating that a report was being prepared for the FIA .
"After hearing and collecting information the stewards will write a report to the FIA who may bring the matter before the International Tribunal," said the statement.
Mercedes had become the subject of a protest from both Red Bull and Ferrari ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix after it emerged the team had tested for Pirelli with a 2013 car at Barcelona after the Spanish Grand Prix.
Although the team insisted that it had been given authority from the FIA to run the current car in a tyre development test, rival outfits are convinced that the regulations are clear in outlawing any form of in-season testing.
While Nico Rosberg's victory in the Monaco Grand Prix is secure, with the FIA having made the result official, should the team be found in breach of the rules then it could face future sanctions.
Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn said before the outcome of the stewards meeting that he would have been upset if Rosberg's well-earned victory had been taken away from him.
"I would be very disappointed if today's result changes in any way," he said. "I think it was a great day for motor racing and a great day for the team."

But even if Pirelli offered it to every team, how would that have changed anything? Unless each team did 1000/11 kilometres of testing each, which is slightly pointless.

The issue is that nobody else got the chance to help Pirelli basically. Mercedes and Pirelli could do the testing, as long as every other team were given the same oppourtunity.
So, ask yourself, whose responsibility is it to invite the other teams to a Pirelli test day? Mercedes or Pirelli?
I'd be amazed if Mercedes gets punished.

I can see both being punished for some strange reason. FIA is also now denying any knowledge of the test in the first place. But in theory it would be Pirelli at fault as they should have done all that business? I wonder what will happen to them. I know they are also waiting for the contract for next year as well.

I think Pirelli will be gone next year because of all of this frankly. And how the FIA can deny that they permitted the test is beyond me, when they've said they gave permission for it to go ahead as long as all teams had the same oppourtunity :P An obvious solution would to give a 3 day testing event at Barca for all other teams, but I suppose that won't please some people either :P

I think the teams would probably want to agree with testing in-season instead of giving them the chance of doing the 1000km run or whatever it was Pirelli can do. If Pirelli aren't going to be here next year then FIA should not waste time in getting a new company in place or start the bidding process for sure.

Saw the edited highlights last night... Not many overtakes but thats always the same in Monaco!
Rosberg did what he needed to the whole of the race.
That pit stop helped the Red Bulls get 2nd & 3rd which is a shame for Hamilton.

Did Raikkonen really say that? :P He's funny as. I love his persona - talk to him on the radio "Yes, yes.. I know!" haha
Glad for Nico's win, I've always liked him as a driver. Wish Vettel would just plow it into the barrier though. His car is just insanely good
I agree with you Zak about Vettel... He just thinks he is invincible and can do what he wants as long as he wins.

Wow, what a race. Something needs to be done about the tyres for safety concerns for sure but it did make it a very intresting and great race for sure. Such a shame about Lewis though with one of the tyres going on him but he did a great job finishing 4th considering.
Congrats to Nico and Mercedes for winning.

Yeh was a shame that Lewis had that happen to him, but at least now they will seriously look into changing the tyres, as it's just a safety concern quite lucky nobody had a serious accident, kudos to vergne for keeping his car on the track and not into a wall, he was going at very high speed when his tyre blew.
Kinda happy with Vettel's DNF, purely as it keeps the championship battle going, and it's nice to see someone else take a win every now and again.

Just got back, horribly sunburnt.
The crowd was so depressed when Hamilton got his puncture, it was just awful. We had such high hopes for him, and frankly, even thogh I thought Vettel would catch him, it turns out that that wouldn't have mattered. Lewis would have won without that tyre blowout.
Pirelli need to sort out, it's not fun, and it's definitely not safe. I'm pretty sure Raikkonen got some debris in his car from Vergne's tyre. And I was sat infront of where Vergne and Perez lost their tyres, totally not cool when you're not expecting it either.
Good win for Rosberg, shame for Vettel, and I'm annoyed that the crowd cheered when he retired. Crowd really cheered on Webber in those last few laps, me included :P Button, bleh, same crap as usual :P
xxMATTGxx
30-06-2013, 06:05 PM
I don't think there is anything wrong with cheering when someone you may not support retired. It is some what expected when you are at Silverstone though. It means we can see a different winner! But if they booed him at the podium then that's different and wouldn't agree with it.

I'd understand if it was Vettel 1st, Hamilton 2nd and Vettel retired :P Or if it directly altered the championship :P But I can imagine the British crowd wouldn't be too happy with all the non-Hamilton supporters cheered when Hamilton got his tyre failure, or if they cheered when he retired :P
I just think it's rude :P

Fair enough we all have different views. I would agree with you if it was him being booed at the podium though as that's like a direct insult or whatever. But cheering when he retired meant we could see a race without him near the front etc etc and changes the race.

Apparently Raikkonen is no longer in the running at Red Bull, almost certainly confirming Daniel Ricciardo will be promoted to the senior team in 2014. A good decision I think, Kimi's had his chance and it's nice to see new blood in the fastest car.

Boo :( Kimi's my 2nd favourite driver, so I'd love to see him at Red Bull with Vettel, and frankly F1 hasn't had a dream pairing since Hamilton/Alonso back in 2007, so it's about time we get to see a good inter team fight.
I guess I'll have to hope that it'll be Alonso/Raikkonen at Ferrari next year then :(
Kimi would absolutely demolish at Redbull, he would have been the perfect choice there.

I beg to differ actually. The Red Bull is difficult to overtake with and Kimi certainly isn't the best qualifier. In many ways Vettel and Hamilton would be most appropriate from that point of view. Also given how Ricciardo has qualified recently I'd day he more than suits the Red Bull car style, I.e. qualify at the front and never look back.

Yup, it's just horrible now :( Vettel has a two grand prix lead now, and we've still got the usual Japan/India/Korea coming up, urgh :( I really, really hope that these rule changes next year mix the system up like it did in 2009. Anyone but Vettel, I've never cheered on Alonso so much in my life.

Massa is out at Ferrari, looking like Kimi will be going back! Looks like the team to beat then if Ferrari can provide the car, surely Ricciardo and Vettel can't match Alonso and Raikkonen?
I feel bad for Massa, even as a Hamilton supporter and the rivalry we've had with Massa over the years, it does suck that he hasn't won a race since 2008. Guess the accident didn't do him much good :( Hopefully he gets a drive somewhere else...

I guess so... If it weren't for the rule changes, you'd have to say Ferrari would have a very good chance at both titles due to the strength of their drivers. If Kimi does move, definitely the strongest line up on the grid, and the strongest line up since Alo/Ham.

I think it's all rumours at the moment. But why wouldn't you announce it at car launch? I don't see any benefit :P Personally I think they're running this year without a title sponsor, so Honda can become the title sponsor next year, and revert back to the classic White/Red livery. But I guess we have to wait a year to see if that happens :P

rosberg killed it. shame about ricciardo, big let down for australia & rbr... but atleast they know they have the pace. 2 cars not starting off the grid though - says something about the new engines... they sound like sewing machines on wheels. quite disappointed honestly. vettel and hamilton DNF'ing was oddly satisfying heh.

I might be in the minority, but I love the new engines. You can hear the crowd, you can hear tyres locking up, the team radio is so much clearer. Very disappointed to see Hamilton retire, but I was half expecting it (Hamilton only ever retires when he's in a good position :P), and I put a bet on that Vettel would retire, so that went well for me.
Magnussen looks very impressive, and glad to see that McLaren have already done better than last year (2nd and 3rd compared to last years best of 4th) and Williams seems super as well, god knows how they would have done if Bottas didn't get a penalty and hit the wall, and Massa was hit off.
Mercedes looks way ahead of the rest though. Rosberg won by 20 seconds and he wasn't truly pushing and that was with a safety car. The Ricciardo penalty is a shame for him - it was purely the team's fault, but it's a deserved penalty. All teams were warned before the weekend, then Red Bull got warned during the race to do something and they refused.
Hopefully Malaysia will be better for Hamilton :) Looking forward to it :)

Vettel ***** me. He had such a sooky weekend it's a disappointment, I didn't see the race I was at the horse races, but from what I heard he wasn't even in trouble with his car just "no power" so he retired? Gah, what a toad.
they wanted to preserve the engine rather than get blown out of the water for no points.

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz says his company could quit Formula 1 if he is not happy with the way the sport is run.
His remarks follow Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo's exclusion from the Australian Grand Prix and the adoption of new rules.
Mateschitz said Red Bull's future in F1 was more "to do with sportsmanship and political influence" than finance.
He said: "In these issues there is a clear limit to what we can accept."
He also referred to the "inappropriate politicisation" of the sport.

I couldn't see Bernie giving a **** tbh, he's an arrogant man who doesn't care too much about others (well, when he was rising to the top he was like that). It's almost as bad as the Aussie GP coordinators saying that they'll "sue" or threaten to pull out from future races; I doubt Ecclestone will care too much, he'll just move the GP to another location.

Malaysia FP2:
This time it was Nico Rosberg ahead, after Lewis Hamilton was fastest in FP1, but the German's 1m 39.909s lap on Pirelli's medium tyre was a mere 0.035s faster than Kimi Raikkonen's 1m 39.944s and 0.61s better than Sebastian Vettel's 1m 39.970s. This time Hamilton was fourth on 1m 40.051s, 0.142s down on his team mate. Overall, the fastest 11 cars were bracketed within one second
11 cars within 1 second of each other. Could make for an interesting qualifying session tomorrow.

omfg. avoided the results all day to watch this on the bbc. and omfg. surely, one of the best races ever. up there with Belgium 2008 and Canada 2011. i'm still shaking. i'm so amazed they didn't touch, and wow. just what great racing.
and how dominant are Mercedes? a one minute lead before the safety car, and a 23 seconds lead in just the 10 laps at the end. absolutely amazing.
and lewis. wow. holding off nico who was on the faster tyre, I was sure when the SC came out that Nico would take it, and even during the last few laps, I was still sure nico would get it.
And throughout the field, amazing overtakes. what an amazing race. absolutely fantastic.
this year is clearly lewis vs nico, every single race is going to be important. I feel like this is the new prost vs senna.

They sound a bit louder in real life than you hear them on TV according to people but yeah I think a lot of people wish they were louder. But hey ho - We'll get used to that. Unless they somehow manage to make them louder but not sure how they will do that this year.
The problem is I also love the fact you can now hear the radios a lot clearer now...

There is always that risk when you have team mates fighting each other. We have seen how it can go wrong but I personally don't believe team orders should be used at this point of the season - What we saw last week end was some fantastic driving by two very skilled and professional drivers. We wouldn't have saw that if team orders were put into place on that race. Wouldn't have got the action anyway that's for sure and the action is what the sport needs.
It's a tough one for sure...

Secondly, Rosberg got out by reversing directly onto the track - now normally it's against the rules to travel in the opposite direction of the track, but I'm guessing he did it when all the traffic was past him, so it'll be fine.
Meh. Shame we didn't get the fight at the end. Will be interesting tomorrow.

Standing re-starts, new nose designs & testing changes among rule revisions for F1 2015
Standing re-starts, reductions in wind tunnel usage and in-season testing, and an extension of parc ferme conditions are among changes to have been approved by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council for the 2015 season with a view to saving costs and enlivening the Formula 1 spectacle.
Following a host of suggestions by the F1 Strategy Group which were voted on by the wider F1 Commission ahead of last week's Austrian GP, the WMSC met on Thursday in Munich to rubber-stamp changes for next season and beyond.
Despite a largely negative response from drivers and fans to the proposal, standing restarts will be introduced following the introduction of the Safety Car during races - although not in all scanearios. In-season testing will be cut from four to two sessions, meanwhile, while the three pre-season tests revert exclusively to European venues after back-to-back sessions in Bahrain this year.
A proposed ban on tyre blankets has been put on hold for now, meanwhile, while in significant changes affecting teams during a race weekend, the start of parc ferme conditions will be brought forward by one session to Saturday morning’s Practice Three and the Friday night mechanics curfew extended from six to seven hours in 2015. It will then increase to eight hours in 2016.

Standing Restarts is a horrible idea in my opinion.
That being said it's probably a good thing it comes in AFTER Webber has left since he was absolutely shocking at standing starts in the RBR...
I miss the noise of the V8's, but I've gotten used to it, it's still great racing, it's still the pinnacle of motor sport and I thoroughly enjoy it just the same.
It's great to see Ricciardo showing Vettel that he isn't invincible and that he can be beaten and convincingly.
Vettel may cry about little technical problems, but he's had a few clean races and still been extremely average, and everything seems to point to the team instead of him.
What are people's thoughts on Ricciardo just being a better driver with the lower downforce style cars of this year due to his experience in a less than ideal car for a few years at Toro Rosso?
I'm sure it's playing a part, but not that big of a part considering the gap between him and Vettel this year has been huge.
I just don't think Vettel is that good. Not four time champion worthy anyway - he had the best car by a mile/good reliability and a crap team mate in Webber (imo).

A crap teammate that would've won the championship in 2010 if he didn't flip over Kovalainen in Valencia? :P
Vettel is certainly one of the greatest drivers on the grid right now, along with Hamilton and Alonso - all three are in a league above the rest. I personally believe that Vettel was lucky to win 4 championships, but he deserved it. The 2010 championship literally could have gone anyway, and the 2012 championship would easily have been Hamilton's (Think Hamilton lost something like ~150 points due to car failures/pit stop issues). However, 2011 and 2013 were just masterclasses from Vettel, you can't win 9 races in a row and not be a good driver.
Ricciardo is easily out performing Vettel at the moment but I'd wait to see until the end of the year how things pan out, after all Rosberg did beat Schumacher but nobody talked about how Rosberg was one of the best, and Vettel has had far far more issues than Ricciardo this year. Nevertheless, Ricciardo is definitely one for the future, and probably a future champion along with Hulkenburg.
The British Grand Prix. Wow.
I could watch that again and again.
Icing on the top that Hamilton won too.

Before the race I said to myself that this was the best oppourtunity for them to hit. 2 laps later and I'm swearing so loud.
What I don't understand is why Rosberg got no penalty. Hamilton has done that to other drivers so many times (Malaysia 2011, Singapore 2011) and every time he got a penalty. But for this to not even be investigated is crazy.
Some senior FIA official said the stewards would have opened an investigation if Rosberg's comments about 'Intentionally not avoiding contact' were made whilst the stewards were still around. But they went home. So he got away with it.
I really do hope the FIA stands in. It's crazy. Taking your championship rival out and gaining a +18 points advantage.

There has also been other drivers who have been punished for it as well. Seems crazy... I know I'm a Lewis fan but I just I don't know what Nico was thinking. Lewis was in front and had the racing line.
The problem is, his actions ruined it for the whole team. You do not crash in your team mates... and to make it worse it was only LAP BLOODY 2!

Looking forward to Monza! Obviously a big Red Bull fan and even moreso Danny Ric (see location). Doubt they'll do TOO well at Monza though. They pretty much stripped the cars downforce at Spa just to keep up whilst all the Merc powered engines were running half aero half torque kits. Hope Renault gets it together for 2015.
Whoever gets pole will in it IMO. Both merc drivers will be tippy toeing around each other so I think quali will decide it. Rather, whoever makes it out of turn 1 in front will decide it.

Sorry to double post. The FIA has been lenient with inter-team collisions and will allow them to be punished behind closed doors for the most part. The Hamilton/Rosberg incident is 20/80 imo. Rosberg should have definitely backed off however I can see his point of view. Hamilton has forced his team mate off the track various times this season and he thought he'd be able to close the door on him again with no repercussions. A very sloppy move nonetheless.

Jules Bianchi has suffered a severe head injury and is undergoing surgery following his crash in the Japanese Grand Prix, the FIA has confirmed.
Marussia Formula 1 driver Bianchi crashed on lap 43 of the Suzuka F1 race, going off the track at Turn 7 shortly after Adrian Sutil had spun into the barriers at the same place.
Bianachi's Marussia hit the rear of a recovery vehicle that was being used to recover the stranded Sauber.
After being removed from the car, he was taken to the Suzuka circuit's medical centre before being transported to the Mie General hospital in an ambulance. He was unconscious throughout.
A statement issued by motor racing's governing body on Sunday night said: "The CT scan shows that he has suffered a severe head injury and is currently undergoing surgery.
"Following this, he will be moved to intensive care where he will be monitored.
"Mie General Hospital will issued an update as soon as further information becomes available."

L'equipe saying surgery is over and he is breathing without assistance although I cannot vouch for their reliability.
Here is a picture of Jules in the car... disturbing stuff. Looks like his head was the first point of contact.

The BBC are now reporting the following:
Jules Bianchi out of surgery after Japanese Grand Prix crash
Marussia driver Jules Bianchi is out of surgery and breathing on his own after suffering a severe head injury in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Bianchi, 25, crashed into a recovery vehicle and the rain-affected race in Suzuka was stopped early after 44 laps.
He was unconscious as he was taken to hospital following the crash and was operated on before being moved to intensive care, the FIA said.
Bianchi lost control at Suzuka where an earlier crash had occurred.
More follows.

Some more bad news for Formula 1 today:
Andrea De Cesaris: Italian former Formula 1 driver dies aged 55
Former Formula 1 driver Andrea De Cesaris has died at the age of 55.
The Italian started 208 races in Formula 1 in a career between 1980 and 1994, but he never won a Grand Prix.
He drove for British-based team McLaren for one season in 1981 and also raced for teams including Jordan, Brabham, Cosworth and Alfa Romeo.

When i woke up on sunday morning, i saw on bbc news that he had a crash, but when I watched it on iplayer i was confused because I thought they had the wrong name on screen when they said sutil crashed. Wasn't until I heard that he hit the tractor moving sutil's car that i realised what happened.
Thoughts are with him
congratulations to Lewis winning though, I know it's one he really wanted to win.
I didn't realise the crash was that bad. Serious collision, hope he's ok.

The latest is the following:
MEDIA INFORMATION │ 7 October 2014
A Statement from the family of Jules Bianchi
Yokkaichi, Japan
7 October 2014, 23.00hrs local/15.00hrs BST
The following statement is provided by the family of Jules Bianchi, in conjunction with the Mie General Medical Center, and is distributed on their behalf by the Marussia F1 Team.
“This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation.
Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition. The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident.
We are also grateful for the presence of Professor Gerard Saillant, President of the FIA Medical Commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, Neurosurgeon of the University of Rome La Sapienza, who has travelled to Japan at the request of Scuderia Ferrari. They arrived at the hospital today and met with the medical personnel responsible for Jules’ treatment, in order to be fully informed of his clinical status so that they are able to advise the family. Professors Saillant and Frati acknowledge the excellent care being provided by the Mie General Medical Center and would like to thank their Japanese colleagues.
The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate.”

The cars are hopefully a lot more even next year also.
So glad he won, very well deserved.

Lewis just won 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year
There was a huge outcry on Twitter basically saying Hamilton didn't deserve it - which is obviously not the case.

To be fair to Rory, I don't know what else he has to do to be awarded it. He basically done everything he could this year and still didn't get it

The only real threat to them is Ferrari. There has been talks of allowing all other teams apart from them 2 to do more engine upgrades to try and make them more competitive. But is that fair? It's a tough one really.
