Um... I guess it's okay that's it going to be limited, still better than nothing. :/

I don't really mind the fact that the chat is going to be a little limited to begin with,
I think that's quite a good move,

Thanks for the link :)

Yeah, at-least they're working in steps to get us back connecting. It's better than nothing! :P

See this is what I don't like. We're not all paedophiles and we're not all children, so it is beyond me why he is pinning the blame on the community - it is NOT our fault. I find him extremely condescending lately and it's not the way to go about running a company. It's a problem with the industry and the management - not the users.

I do agree with this,
I don't feel like it should have been everyone who should have been blamed,
But I guess it would have taken a LOT longer to find out who the troublemakers were,
As for the whole situation, it's been handled horribly, and gone on for far too long.

I don't get it tbh. Surely we've proved enough of a 'point' as there's been plenty of members staying online even though we're limited to what we can do. Paul seems like a **** that works his way around problems foolishly.

I don't think there was any need for it to be down for so long, when we've not really had any visual adjustments, they've just been planning what to do which is stupid :(

Looking forward to my 31 days of free VIP though, and I'm hoping for some nice furni releases to compensate...

I admire Paul if I'm honest. The twitter responses, great unmute responses that weren't suitable for posting, the Habbo groups and rooms and he and Sulake still remain stubborn and make us the last unmute Habbo. The pressure he's been under is immense.

lol, I thought he said we'd be unmuted at the start of this week. he just keeps raising our hopes then pushing it back.

He never said that at all. The first time he gave any kind of date was last week, in which he said if all goes well we'll be unmuted this week. Coming into this week he has officially said for this weekend, so long as everything goes well on the other sites. That's the first time he's given any kind of time frame for .com; he's been very careful not to give us any information prior just incase it is pushed back. He's obviously quite hopeful for this weekend or he wouldn't have said it.

Disney's Club Penguin to invest in child safety online

Disney, the firm behind social network Club Penguin, is donating £3m worth of space on its outlets towards teaching children how to stay safe online.

The TV, print and website slots will promote third-party campaigns.

The announcement was made at the Children's Media conference by Club Penguin founder Lane Merrifield.

Keeping children safe online has been under the spotlight since revelations that another network - Habbo Hotel - had been used by paedophiles.

Parental involvement
Mr Merrifield, who would not comment on the problems at Habbo, said the investment was unrelated.

"Safety is important to us. Even though we don't have the ability to make the entire internet safe, we do have the ability to educate and empower kids to keep themselves safe," he said.

"It starts with making sure that the parents are involved, making sure kids understand not to share personal information and to tell someone if they experience something inappropriate."

Disney plans to link up with child safety experts including Ceop (Child exploitation and online protection) and charities such as Childnet.

The advertising "fund" can be spent on space across Disney's television channels, magazines and child-focused sites in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Club Penguin currently uses filters to prevent inappropriate conversations. The filters limit what can be said on the site.

It also employs over 200 moderators.

"We don't control who comes on the site but we have a lot of control over what they experience once there," said Mr Merrifield.

He said that it was "dangerous" to rely purely on technology.

"Language is organic and we use human moderators to stay ahead of new trends," he said.

Convenient timing!?

If only the CEO of a certain business with which we are all familiar would take the time to actually teach children of online safety. A good move by Disney, utilising their TV channels to educate children on the matter. It's very nobel of them. Whether or not the timing is a coincidence, they are at least doing something to educate users which they do not really need to do. Habbo on the other hand are doing half-arsed alterations which will probably go down like a lead balloon once chucked out globally.

Ridiculous. If children are caught up in exploiting the sexual capabilities of Habbo then I say it's their parent's fault for not restricting their children's access to the game itself. Habbo is perfectly legal and is a lot *less* sexual then a lot of other games like Gaia Online, IMVU and especially Second Life where literally 50% of the game is cyber sex.

Technically they're operating border-line illegal - they have to follow guidelines both in the EU (their main base of operations) and in their respective countries. Although the users should have more self control, Habbo really should be understanding what is going on inside its own game. Promoting sexual content for 13+ year olds is a recipe for disaster. If they were 16/18+ then go crazy, but this game is strictly for underaged users.

Also, I say border-line because it's difficult to enforce these sorts of disputes as there is no actual law on the matter. If anything it would be closures or heavy fines. More a civil dispute than criminal.

Ekelektra
06-07-2012, 08:04 AM
There are some words that are simple that I would think should be there? Well they should be making a poll for us to put in words that should be safe.

And yeah some words I write come up red but not padlocked but then I write them again, they come up red, and they come up padlocked. Or maybe I'm seeing things...

Matt
06-07-2012, 08:07 AM
Yeah, it's as if habbo havn't really thought about it. I suppose it's only been unmuted for what, 10 mins maximum but considering its been released in other hotels, why are there so many words like "helpdesk" that we can't say. How is helpdesk a bad word???!!. Beyond me.

compositeLegend

I guess words will slowly be released, as this limited chat thing progresses. I read that in the Finland hotel they opened up a poll in one of the public rooms for users to suggest words.

It's hard for me to enjoy habbo without events. Anyone heard news on twitter or elsewhere about when they'll be back?

Someone mentioned today that they should return and Paul said he does feel it is a good idea they return. This doesn't give any idea of time, but as the poster in question was explaining it was hard for people to get credits to spend in the catalogue given how difficult it is to trade without events, I would imagine Paul will have the process hurried through (so that people can get credits to spend in the catalogue, Paul may be thinking about safety but he still has to put profits first).
