Rumble Predictions:
Chrsitian, McCool, 'Taker, Sheamus, Triple H
Final superstards left in the ring will be HHH Hbk Cena and Batista. Cena will eliminate Batista, Dx team on Cena then elimnate him. Hbk and HHH stare down crow goes absolutly insane. They both point and the Wrestlemania sign ect. they go back for forth for about 5 minutes with HHH eventually winning the thing.
Interested to see what everyone else thinks will happen
I was bored one cold Friday night back in January 2004. Very bored. All my friends were in work, or out with their significant others. What to do in a situation like that? Well, I played Madden for a while. Then I browsed the Internet when I got bored of Madden. I was looking for a topic to write about. Some nugget of news I could perhaps mould into an interesting article. After half an hour without a clue, I glanced down at my copy of Madden. I suddenly remembered the so-called “Madden Curse”. I wondered, as I often seem to do, could there be a wrestling equivalent?
The Curse
Being a statistician, my first port of call was browsing through Rumble stats. Yeah, I have an unhealthy interest in numbers. But my uber-geekery quickly paid off. I had found something interesting. In every single Royal Rumble match, there are various unlucky people. They may have been quite famous at the time, but they weren’t for very long after. But it wasn’t interesting enough. I dug deeper. I soon learned that some of these unlucky buggers were turning up at repeating numbers. 3 and 5 weren’t looking too good. Number 10 was looking worse. But one number stood out like a sore thumb wrapped quite snugly in fluorescent yellow bandages. I had found it at last. Something to cause controversy. Something to shock the entire wrestling world. I had found a curse. A conspiracy. An evil plot. Call it what you will, but I had found it. The wrestling equivalent of the “Madden Curse”. The number 14.
The Victims of the Curse
Basically, if you enter the Royal Rumble as the 14th entrant, you’re going to get some pretty bad luck in your life at some point. At the time that I discovered the Rumble Curse, I noted down all the people who had suffered. Since then, the curse just got worse and worse. Here is a fully updated list of all the Unlucky Fourteens.
1988: This was the original 20-man Royal Rumble, way back in 1988. Even with the reduced number, there were still enough people to include the unlucky number 14. In ’88, it happened to be ‘The Outlaw’ Ron Bass. He debuted in 1971 and won various NWA titles before settling into the WWF. He left the company soon after this match and bounced around the independent circuit until he retired just 2 years later.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1989: At number 14 this year came Marty Jannetty. As this was right at the beginning of his WWF career, you may think he escaped the curse. He had success after this, capturing Tag Team and Intercontinental titles. But just a year after this match, Jannetty screwed up his end of the Rocker Dropper and broke another wrestler’s neck. This led to Jannetty, Michaels and the WWF being successfully sued for $26.7 million. Jannetty then left the company in 1992. He tried to come back in 1993 and again in 1995, but it was no use. And then he had to watch his old tag-team partner become one of the biggest stars of the business. Is there any greater curse than that?
VERDICT: Cursed!
1990: The rumble of Hulk Hogan. He managed to eliminate 5 people. He also managed to win it. But one man wasn’t quite as lucky as the Hulkster. In fact, he was eliminated by the Hulkster. It was number 14, Haku. In the previous year, he held the Tag Team titles along with Andre the Giant. But he never achieved high success in the WWF after this Rumble encounter. Just 18 months later, he left. He now paints cars in Florida.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1991: Enter the British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith. A full 4 years before his classic Rumble rendezvous with Shawn Michaels, he came out at number 14. To be fair, he later became an Intercontinental champion, a Tag Team champion, a 2-time Hardcore champion and a 2-time European champion. But although he had a glittering career in the ring, he wasn’t having the best of times outside the ring. He married into the Hart family. Then he divorced out of them. He was plagued by injuries, especially to his back near the end of his career. He had a few drug problems, even visiting a rehab clinic on one occasion. Then, on May 18th, 2002, he died at only 39 years old.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1992: In the classic WWF Title Rumble match, which Ric Flair went on to win, the number 14 entrant was a man named Hercules Hernandez. He had been in the WWF since 1985, even once getting a title shot at Hulk Hogan. But leading up to this match, he had been losing matches to everyone. He left the company soon after this match and went to WCW for a year. He then wrestled on the independent circuit until he retired in 1999. He died in his sleep 3 years ago, at just 46 years old.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1993: Yokozuna won this year. Could he really lose at his size? Maybe… but unlucky 14, as per usual, had no chance. This time round it was The Berzerker. He left soon after the match. He bounced around AJPW and WCW until he retired in 1997. He now works at a car dealership.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1994: Number 23 was Lex Luger. He won the Rumble this year. Number 27 was Bret Hart. He also won the Rumble this year. Number 14 was Doink the Clown. He wasn’t so lucky. While Luger and Hart were celebrating their co-operative win, the man who portrayed Doink at the time was celebrating the arrival of his walking papers. The actual Doink character (played by various other people) disappeared from our screens within a year.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1995: The year of the classic Bulldog/Michaels battle. We all know how it ends by now. We’ve seen the clips. Mr Bulldog throws Mr Michaels out of the ring and he wins! But wait… HBK amazingly flings himself back up into the ring without touching the floor, catches Bulldog unawares and throws him out of the ring! Shawn Michaels accomplishes the impossible by winning the Royal Rumble match from entering at number 1. While history is being made, the WWF pushes out a debutante into the match. Maybe he’s the new Hulk Hogan. Maybe he’s the new Ric Flair. Maybe he would’ve been, had he not come out at number 14. I speak of Eli Blu. He (along with his twin brother) lasted only 9 short months with the company. They came back again in 1996 and yet again in 1997, but they failed to do well each time. Eli Blu (real name Don Harris) now works as head of security for TNA. His brother works for a Christian music label.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1996: Now we come to another history-making night. Shawn Michaels becomes not only the first man to two Royal Rumble matches, but he wins them back-to-back as well. I can only surmise that they brought outside talent into the ring on this night, as I can find no record of this man in the WWF outside of this match. Doug Gilbert was number 14 on this night. I don’t think he ever wrestled in the WWF again.
VERDICT: Cursed!
1997: This year we come to Goldust. He picked number 14 on the night of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s first Rumble win. Goldust goes on to win 3 Intercontinental titles, has a nice run in WCW, before coming back to the WWE to win Tag Team gold with Booker T. Now his dad is best buddies with Mr. McMahon and his younger brother Cody is chugging along nicely in WWE. So Goldust may be an exception to this rule.
VERDICT: Has enough post-curse success to break it.
1998: Stone Cold Steve Austin becomes the second man consecutively to win two consecutive Royal Rumble matches. This next man could be classed as a curse-breaker although he did leave the WWF within 2 years. Number 14 in 1998 was the world’s most dangerous man, Ken Shamrock. He had limited success, but never really become a truly powerful force in the WWF. Then again, he’s done alright for himself out in the real world. I’m not sure how to call this one.
VERDICT: Unconvinced.
1999: The sneakiness of Vince McMahon can be seen in the result of this match. Stone Cold goes for the trio of Rumbles, starting from number 1 this time, but McMahon has other plans and eventually manages to eliminate Austin to scupper his hat-trick hopes. With Austin being the last man left, McMahon wins the 1999 Royal Rumble. He came in at number 2. Meanwhile, a man named Kurrgan came in at 14. I gather that this was a tall person, over 7ft tall. It’s a shame that McMahon didn’t have his love of big guys back then. Before the end of the year, not only was Kurrgan out of the WWF, but the WWF kept the copyright on the name Kurrgan so that he couldn’t use it elsewhere. He now wrestles in Canada and plays monsters in Frank Miller adaptations.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2000: Ah, yes. The greatest Rumble of them all. 2000 was the year that the Big Show won it. And no one will convince me otherwise. The Rock’s feet touched the floor first. He cheated. And maybe if our number 14 pick wanted to be more successful in politics, he shouldn’t have chosen the ill-fated number 14. Yes, Bob Backlund came back for one month only, mainly to get some voters on his side as he stood for election. Not only did he not win the Royal Rumble, but he lost his election, only getting 29% of the votes. Poor ol’ Bob.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2001: This time, there was no stopping him. If you saw his eyes when he sat in the turnbuckle opposite the Rock, bleeding profusely from the forehead, you’ll understand when I say that he was a man possessed. I had the picture as my desktop background for a month afterwards. Stone Cold Steve Austin came back triumphantly to take an unprecedented third Royal Rumble victory. But the number 14 still could not shake its evil curse. This year, it was the Goodfather’s turn. After the god-awful Right To Censor group was disbanded, the Goodfather had no gimmick left. I believe he tried to go back to the Godfather gimmick for a short while, but to no avail.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2002: The return of Triple H. But a different Triple H than we’d seen previously. Whereas the previous one would sell for people, lose matches, and wrestle well, this new Triple H was no-selling machine that didn’t lose cleanly to many people, winning everything in sight worth winning and he had even lost the use of one leg. While Triple H triumphed over the other 29 men, one of them would have to be number 14. Diamond Dallas Page was given the honour. He was so injured within one year of his number 14 Rumble entry that he had to retire from wrestling altogether. And now he faces the ultimate humiliation; Randy Orton has stolen his finishing move.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2003: And here we are. This was the most recent Rumble when I first wrote about the curse. For this, the 14th number 14, I shall simply paste word-for-word what I did back then.
“I’d like to say that we’ve finally come to a break-out superstar who has freed himself from the curse, but there hasn’t been enough time passed yet for us to say for certain. Before Brock Lesnar lifted Undertaker over the top rope to win his first Royal Rumble, Eddie Guerrero came in at number 14. I’m not saying that he will have a run of severe bad luck in the near future, but this evidence is pretty damning.”
VERDICT: Cursed.
2004: Chris Benoit became the second person to win from number 1 in an emotional win that sent him on to Wrestlemania to collect his first and only World Title. However, in at number 14 was the popular Rikishi. The day after, I was certain he’d be a curse-breaker. But after numerous calls for him to lose weight, he proved me wrong and proved that the curse was strong as ever. WWE released him in June 2004. They also owned the rights to the name “Rikishi”, so he couldn’t use it elsewhere.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2005: Orlando Jordan. Yeah.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2006: You know when a tag team comes along that’s so great, you just know that one of them is going to go on to bigger and better things? Edge and Christian are an example. I picked Christian to go all the way. The Hardy Boyz are another example. I picked Matt. Well, 2005 was a big year for our next entrant. I was a big fan and I picked him to do great things over his tag team partner. But then Joey Mercury entered at #14. Five months later he failed a WWE Wellness Policy drug test and was forced to serve a 30-day suspension. He was then kept off TV for 6 months while his partner, Johnny Nitro, went on to bigger and better things. He came back for a short while before being smashed in the nose with a ladder. He was finally dropped in March 2007.
VERDICT: Cursed!
2007: This is an odd one. In at #14 this year was Jeff “the Lemming” Hardy. At the moment, he seems to have truly broken the curse. He’s been slowly pushed throughout the year and will be in a World Title match next Sunday. Of course there’s still time though. And judging by past performances, Hardy is an unpredictable prospect in WWE. He was released in 2003 with “erratic behavior, drug use, refusal to go to rehab, deteriorating ring performance, as well as constant tardiness and no-showing events” cited as reasons. He spent a year off before heading to TNA for a few years. He no-showed a couple of their events too, eventually being suspended for it. Now he’s back in WWE and it seems as if he’s hit the big time. Only time will tell if he’s a true curse-breaker…
VERDICT: Yet to suffer effects.
2008: ?
And so we’re here again…
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Royal Rumble is here again. Next Sunday, 30 men will all fight to be the last man in the ring, for the chance to main event Wrestlemania, to go down in the record books as one of the greatest. They are standing on the precipice of history. But it won’t be such a fine year for one person. One man will have to draw number 14. And with the odds of being hit by the curse at around 85%, it’s not looking good.
Jeff Hardy is cursed because of the drug arrest. 2008's #14 was Umaga, who died last month so he's cursed, and 2009's #14 was Finlay. Considering Finlay is now a jobber, I guess he could be cursed as well.

Wow.
That is actually really scary?
I'd hate to be a wrestler backstage now with the number 14 entry number. Watch it be Edge to. nooo! :(:(:(:'(
Yeah, like Grays said, DX the final two competitors in this Rumble. Either way, both will get a title shot at WM26. I reckon Triple HHH will win to fight Sheamus and Shawn Michaels will have a No.1 contenders match at Elimination Chamber against Batista - somehow I can see it being a Triple Threat Match ~ The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Batista.
I really want Edge to return tonight. Jericho will be the 25th man to exit the rumble - thats if Edge doesn't actually compete in the rumble. I think Edge will make a surprising return, stare out Jericho and Triple HHH/Shawn Michaels will eliminate him ~ this will set the match for Wrestlemania for Edge vs. Jericho
So, I'm looking forward to it. I might order it or get a stream.

He will definitely be returning. He's cooking (no pun intended) up a way to come back with Vince at the moment. He says he'll work a match if the story is right, but says he feels no need to go against John Cena. Possibly the summer when he wraps his next picture.

sheamus now will fight triple hhh at WM i'd imagine - considering HHH pinned sheamus also this match has been discussed since November.

Batista is so boring to watch I actually hate him, plus I don't even think he is a good heel imo and his mic skills are non existant. Sheamus v Triple H has been in the works for some time know as HHH is high on Shemus right now. Hbk v Undertaker, know this match should'nt be happening. Last year they tore the house down and had the best match that I have ever seen perosnally. So if this year they don't go even better it will just make their match at 'mania 25 less speical. I'm glad it will be Edge v Jericho, these two will put on one hell of a match that I personally believe will steal the show this year. Now as for Legacy and Orton. Triple threat or some sort of threeway elimnation type of match with each of their fathers in their conrers sounds alright. I will be rooting for DiBiase in that match, but hopefully Cody Rhodes will shine along with Tedin this match. Plus did anyone see the Undertaker set on fire during his entrance? If not tmz have a video of it on their site. That is the reason why he bascially ran into the chamber
I reckon there is a crap loads of spelling mistakes and all of that sort of thing, tbh I cbb to check through it :D

I get burnt quite frequently at work (not by flamethrowers, but by hot bread trays and tins) and they just generally hurt for maybe 10 minutes? and then you can't feel them that much anymore.
And it takes a while to see where he goes up in flames, it looks like it was for about half a second at the most!
Also, hasn't Sandman gone up in flames because of a table on fire etc?

gutted about Maria
Maria has opening been talking about what she plans to do after wrestling ie music and starting a familly
Hurricane Helms was arrested around a month ago along with Jericho
Paul Burchill had nothing going for him in terms of storylines and being on tv.

SmackDown Result:
Dolph Ziggler def. John Morrison & R-Truth in a Triple Threat to qualify for Money In The Bank.
Michelle McCool def. Mickie James to win the Women's Title with Vickie Guerrero as the referee.
Kane def. Drew McIntyre with a kick to the head while Drew McIntyre was on the ground to qualify for Money In The Bank.
Miz came out and cut a promo saying that he and The Big Show need opponents for WrestleMania. He told Teddy Long to do something about it and out came Teddy Long who scheduled The Miz vs Edge tonight since Big Show is not here.
Shelton Benjamin def. CM Punk to qualify for Money In The Bank with Paydirt after Rey Mysterio distracted Punk.
Edge def. The Miz with The Spear. After that, Edge said that he doesn't want to wait and he wants Batista for the dark main event now.
Edge def. Batista by DQ when Jericho hit The Codebreaker. Matt Hardy, CM Punk and Kane came and hit finishers on each other.
Money In The Bank Qualification: Christian, Kane, Dolph Ziggler, Shelton Benjamin and more participants to be announced.

Three months on and it's finally revealed:
The toxicology results are in for former WWE superstar Eddie “Umaga” Fatu, who died of a heart attack at the age of 36 December 4, 2009.
Nearly three months after Umaga's death, Dan Morgan, supervisory forensic investigator for Houston, Texas' Harris County, has determined that Fatu's cause of death was "acute toxicity due to combined effects of hydrocodone, carisoprodol, and diazepam."
More specifically, it was a lethal combination of painkillers (hydrocodone), muscle relaxers (carisoprodol), and anti-anxiety medication (diazepam).
While Umaga is believed to had a history of drug abuse, the "acute toxicity" finding indicates that his death was the direct result of a deadly mix of drugs in a short period of time (opposed to his body finally giving out due to chronic abuse).

dolph ziggler will do nothing noticeable it's completley against his type of style .... J.R only chats on about him because of the draft in 2004 where he beat HHH 4 times in a row and tbh the WWE pushes the wrong people, Christians gonna win it for me Kane Matt Hardy Dolph Zigller etc. no chance I agree though they could go with a twist here and give shelton the win.

But i am completely clueless to modern day WWE.
When i was little alex i used to watch it all the time, my fav was John Cena and Rey Mysterio, and Eddie Guerro before he died. I hated Triple H and JBL...
I went to WWE summerslam at the MEN arena, had signs saying Just a Big Loser, and 619! hahahahahahaha
I stopped watching around the time they did that thing where people swapped from raw to smackdown and vice versa, like a transfer thing. Like a few years back.

Turned over to Sky Sports 3 the other day to catch WWE Raw on, and decided to give it a watch for the first time in over nearly 2 years. I used to be a fanatic, literally a fanatic about the WWE. Interesting to see all the old and main wrestlers still in it. I'll never be as in to WWE as I once was, as I used to be delusional enough to believe they were ACTUALLY fighting, like many young children still do :P.

Like you lot have said you're not excited about the event, well I have to say I'm not either. I think WWE have lacked in promoting and selling 'The Greatest Spectacle' and for this reason is why it doesn't feel so 'big'. Neither do the matches, I mean HBK vs. Taker... Hardly any build up? Sheamus vs. Triple HHH? no build up. But the rest of the matches on the card look like history-in-the-making. I'm going to watch the show and I have a feeling it's gonna' be an amazing event.

Goldberg? Talentless.
Hey, I seen this earlier:
Bill Goldberg Says He's Negotiating With WWE About Returning, Knocks TNA
Former World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg announced on his Twitter account this evening that he's negotiating with WWE regarding a possible return to the company.
"YES.. I am in negotiations with the WWE," Goldberg wrote. "Looks like 'ole Hogan and TNA missed the boat. Shame for the fans they didn't even try."
While Goldberg has been critical of WWE since his departure from the organization in 2004 and repeatedly said he had no interest in returning to wrestle, he acknowledged a change in heart.
"Truth is I never thought I'd even consider it...then came my son," Goldberg said. "No one said I'd wrestle but the door is open again."
He also added that if he ever steps foot inside a ring again, it will be alongside San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman. The three-time Pro Bowler is a huge WWE fan to say the least, so much so that he asked their Twitter account on Monday if he could participate in the live chat on WWE.com.
"Also.... If I ever did step in the ring again, I have a new tag partner. He goes by the name of "Lights Out!!!! the one and only Shawn Merriman.....updating the old Goldberg/Kevin Greene duo," Goldberg wrote.

Goldberg is a train. He is actually a proper 'meathead', as some of my friends would say. I remember his debut in 2003 for WWE where he came and said "You're Next". That was pretty intimidating in my point of view :L
He'd work a good heel but he's past it now.

26-03-2010, 01:47 AM
Goldberg was the Hogan of the 90's-early-00's, taking a gimmick and executing it well. I don't think anyone would argue that he's technically gifted but he could draw an audience which is more important in perspective. I mainly liked him because I was young and believed the hype and watching his squashfests were always enjoyable. But ultimately he was a product of right place right time, without the gimmick he was nothing.
Misawa
26-03-2010, 01:59 AM
Steve Austin, Triple H and The Rock were all WAY more over than Goldberg ever was in WCW. They brought the house down, but Goldberg's chant had to actually be played over the PA system in the arenas every time he came out to actually seem like he was monstrously over. Goldberg wasn't in Hogan's league as far as popularity, hell, he was 100 leagues down. He debuted in 1997 after training at the WCW Power Plant and came out a horribly green, poor excuse for a pro wrestler.
Simmzay
26-03-2010, 02:14 AM
They only did the fake chants at the start of his run, it ended up being completely legit by the end. As far as WCW goes who else was ever really as over as he was during that time? Says more about WCW at the time than it does about Goldberg. Not arguing his popularity in comparison to Rock/Austin but he was pretty much the only thing WCW had going for it after they ran the NWO gimmick into the ground. The analogy as pertains to Hogan is that they're both two poorly technically gifted wrestlers with strong enough gimmicks to overshadow it.
If it hadn't already been done in WCW it would have been cool if, you know like edge keeps spearin' Jericho? Well Jericho wore a metal plate under his shirts so when edge speared him it knocked him out.

Just flicked over to SBO to book the event and Josh Matthews was broadcasting from inside the arena and it showed the ramp/pyro section and I have to say, the ramp leading to the ring is a typical Monday Night Raw length ramp. I prefer the traditional ramp for Wrestlemania where it was about 50-ish metres.

They have to adjust to the size and scale of the arena.

Are you ready?
I'm in HD but I posted a thread in the Technical Forum about me not noticing the difference between normal TV and HDTV. So yeah, it's just normal for me tonight. The Arena it's at looks amazing! Well it is amazing!
Here we go, 00:00 Wrestlemania time baby!

You can't tell the difference between HD and SD? You do have Sky HD right, and not just an HD TV?
Arron
28-03-2010, 11:05 PM
I genuinely can't see the difference or 'feel the difference'.
I have a Sony Bravia 42" and I'm pretty sure it's a HDTV. And yeah Sky HD.

Couldn't be bothered with the opening tag match but this triple threat match I'm predicting that Ted DiBiase will be victorious.

Here is my take on things. Overal it was a fantastic wrestlemania, all the matchs deliverd apart from the Bret Hart match. Jack Swagger winning was a massive shock but I am glad he won. Becuase it took him so long to undo it i thoguht that he wasn't booked to win and was waiting for someone to kick him off. Sheamus v Triple H was a decent match, which I was shocked as I thought it would be a stinker. The amount of Cena sucks signs and Norway hates cena signs twoards the front row seats made me laugh, along with cena posing with the "cena haters" after. Edge v Jericho was decent, glad to see Y2J retain. Bret v Vince was **** imo soooo boring which was a great shame. Orton v Dibiase v Rhodes was a ok, didn't have too much or too little time. Mysterio v Punk was another good match. Hbk Taker stole the show once again, yeah it was bad compared to their classic at 25 but still and incredible match. When Hbk got the hug from Taker and the fans all claaping it was an amazing moment. Overal the event was head and shoulder better than 25 and was an incredible night

haha it would be interesting, if Blackpool FC win the play off final tomorrow and Regal turns out to be GM he'd just brag on about how great Blackpool are and how he grew up there.
Vicky is one of the reasons I no longer watch Smackdown. she spoiled that show for me and I just hope she doesn't spoil Raw.

And I just don't understand why Edge choose to be with her. I was hoping to see the Rated-RKO back to action till he introduced Vickie as the new GM of Raw (who resign at the end of the show).

Yea! Edge & Christian back then was a great tag team! And I didn't expect both of them face each other instead of teaming up back at their hometown episode.
