WWE news & notes;

Jericho will debut. It was funny to see how worked up people got about his not appearing on Raw or the PPV. WWE was irate about all of this getting out and it's not surprising that they would hold off. There was no false advertising. All of the videos and such were designed to get you excited, but there was, as originally formulated, one red herring after another. If people read something in a code and got upset because what they read into it didn't pan out, that's their problem, not WWE's.

Until WWE specifically announces publicly a time and date for his return and then does not deliver, it's in no way false advertising. As to the question about how long can they drag this out before fans give up, the answer, if you've followed WWE for anything more than, oh, a month or two, is that despite peaks and valleys here and there, in general the base audience of WWE doesn't give up. There have been things over the past several years so much more offensive than not debuting Chris Jericho on Monday that it's almost offensive to hear that fans may give up on the product because of it. The reality is that the longer they hold off, the bigger it's going to be when he finally shows up, and that's why I have no problem with anything they've done so far. A promotion like this ideally is drawn out over several months anyway.

Taryn Terrell has disappeared off the face of the Earth. After doing tons of media to gather votes for the Diva Search, including on our show, she got eliminated and immediately stopped replying to e-mails and accepting friends on her Myspace page. Apparently she did a recent interview where she buried Randy Orton and Stacy Kiebler, and said there was one WWE diva she knew to stay away from. No idea who she was talking about but I assume Melina. She insisted that if she was eliminated she would keep working towards getting a job in WWE.

Matt Hardy suffered a huge gash in his head on Smackdown. He was doing the splash mountain into the huracanrana spot with Rey Jr. and Rey's knee brace sliced his head open. He finished the match and worked the PPV, but needed 16 stitches. What's scary is that now every time I see someone doing any spot with Rey that involves his legs going around their head or face (which is much of what Rey does when doing his high-flying), I'm going to freak out.

Cena appeared at the Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards this past week. He was nominated for Best Sportsperson. David Beckham won. Cena acted like he was devastated to have not won, and said he was going to stand there on stage and hold his breath until they gave him something. They said we'll give you Most Injured Wrestler. The SLIME SQUAD then came out to slime the audience, so he wisely ran for his life.

Bret Hart and his new wife have already split up. She wanted to live in Italy permanently and he wasn't down with that.

Ric Flair is also doing some stuff for WWE.com, so things appear to be smoothing over as most people figured.

Chavo Guerrero's 60 day suspension has ended.

Sandman did an interview with PWMania. He said the reason he was no longer with WWE was because he wanted to spend more time with his family and was sick of the road schedule. I am told by people close to Sandman that he had been trying to get his release for some time. I think that, combined with Daivari asking for his, should give you an idea of how much someone at that level earns these days, even on Raw. He said it was great working there and he got to see a lot of his old friends. He said ECW was fun for him because a lot of the old ECW originals were there, but Raw was a different story altogether. He said that was a last second decision by the creative team, and he indicated that he wasn't happy with leaving all his buddies. He said he would go to TNA if they offered him the right amount of money. TNA still has the benefit of only taping two days in a row every other week, and if you can avoid the house shows and such it's a hell of a deal.

WWE is saddened by the passing of Hall of Famer Fabulous Moolah.
In the world of women’s wrestling, there will always be one irrefutable legend that stands head and shoulders above the rest: The Fabulous Moolah. She was the longest reigning champion in the history of her chosen sport, or any sport for that matter. And with more than 50 years in the business to her credit, she established a legacy that will never be forgotten, making her name synonymous with female wrestling.

The Major Brothers won a tag team battle royal to earn a title shot later "tonight." Other teams were Deuce/Domino, Jesse/Festus, Drew McIntyre/Dave Taylor and Jimmy Wang Yang/Shannon Moore. The Majors eliminated Deuce/Domino for the win.

Victoria w/Kenny beat Michelle McCool w/Chuck Palumbo. Victoria won with a DDT.

Finlay beat Rey Mysterio after knocking Rey off the top rope as Rey was about to hit a West Coast Pop and hitting the Celtic Cross. Match had to have gone around 20 minutes, really good stuff.

CM Punk beat Jaime Noble. Afterwards, the Miz attacked Punk and John Morrison attacked Miz, leading to a three way brawl. Punk won the day, but was laid out by Noble.

MVP/Matt Hardy beat The Major Brothers to retain.

The Undertaker beat The Great Khali in a No Holds Barred match. No weapons were used, Taker won with a Triangle choke.

Good to see Matt back and Victoria actually winning.

*MVP & Matt Hardy lost to The Miz & Morrison, so we've got new Tag champions. MVP asks for their rematch to get the belts back, but still lost. He then attacked Matt, hurting his knee, slamming it onto the stairs.

*The Undertaker cut a promo.

*Rey Mysterio beat Ken Kennedy

*Victoria & WWE Women's champion Beth Phoenix defeated Mickie James & Torrie Wilson.

*The Weigh-in saw Hornswoggle weigh in at 138 and Khali broke the scale. Hornswoggle just cried.

*WWE World champion Batista beat Mark Henry in a short match and I do mean short. After the match, Batista Hit Henry about five times in the back and that's pretty much it.

Source: PWInsider.com

A fight broke out backstage last night in Wichita, Kansas after SmackDown! was taped. After the show was over, JBL gathered a number of WWE superstars together, including John Morrison, The Miz, MVP, CM Punk, and Matt Hardy.

JBL berated Miz and Morrison for their color commentary work on ECW. JBL was furious that the two made Punk look bad with their commentary. They were heels and were supposed to criticize Punk in a heel way, but JBL felt they went too far with it. JBL then yelled at them for their ring work during their match with MVP & Matt Hardy. JBL told Miz & Morrizon to apologize to Punk, MVP & Hardy for making all 3 of them look bad.

The Miz apologized, but Morrison told JBL “F*ck you, it's none of your business”. He then said he would apologize to Punk, Hardy & MVP, but not because JBL told him to.

The confrontation went back and forth until Morrison shoved JBL. Several agents broke up the dispute before it got further than a shove.

- Last night's edition of Friday night SmackDown! did a fast cable rating of 2.7. The final number will be released sometime during the week.

- As we reported earlier, WWE and Bret Hart has not come up with a last minute deal yet to have him appear on the 15th Anniversary Edition of Raw this Monday. WWE is still trying very hard to get him to do so by offering plugs for his book as enticement.

- The Detroit free press has an interview up today about six time WWE Champion and action movie star, Steve Austin appearing at the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals in Auburn Hills while also hosting the event.

Austin will be at the wheel during opening ceremonies, then will hand over driving duties to experts like Michigan's Jim Koehler in the "Avenger."

With Raw's 15th Anniversary 3-hour show airing this Monday, WWE's official website asked fans to vote for their favorite moments, Divas and Superstars, among others, in Raw history. They announced the results of the polls earlier today, but at least two of the polls appear to be rigged.
WWE.com stated that the John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels nearly hour-long match in the U.K. last April was voted as the greatest match in the history of Raw. Here is what they wrote regarding Raw's greatest match:
"Raw has had thousands of matches, but tops on your list, with 24.2 percent of the vote, was John Cena and Shawn Michaels' nearly hour-long epic classic in the U.K. on the April 23, 2007 edition of Raw. Coming in second, at 19.6 percent, was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's battle with Kane for the WWE Title in 1998, followed by Jeff Hardy and Undertaker's 2002 Ladder Match at 17.61 percent."
According to the real poll results on WWE.com, the Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit steel cage match that took place on June 11, 2001 was voted as the greatest match in Raw history with 32.33 percent of the vote. The Cena vs. HBK match didn't even finish in second place as that distinction goes to the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Kane WWE Title match that took place the night after King of the Ring '98, which took home 26.09 percent of the vote. Cena vs. HBK actually finished in third place with 11.34 percent of the vote. Additionally, the Jeff Hardy and Undertaker Ladder Match in the summer of 2002 only garnered 6.89 percent of the vote, not 17.61 percent, not to mention that it finished in fourth place, not in third place.
The 'Greatest Match' poll wasn't the only poll rigged on WWE.com as the results for Raw's 'Hottest Diva' were rigged as well. Here is what they wrote regarding 'Hottest Diva':
"For our fans, it was "100% Stratusfaction" when deciding Raw's Hottest Diva. Seven-time Women's Champion Trish Stratus took top honors in the voting with 20.8 percent of the vote.
The four-time Women's Champion Lita came in second with 14.6 percent, and Candice Michelle finished third with 11.8 percent. There's really no loser in this category, however. All the Divas are smokin'! We all win."
According to the real poll results on WWE.com, Lita was the legitimate winner of the poll, not Trish Stratus. Trish didn't even finish in second place in the poll as that distinction goes to Mickie James. According to the real poll results, Lita came in first place by a mile with 34.77 percent of the vote. Mickie James, who is not even mentioned in WWE's blurb, finished in second with 21.79 percent. Trish actually finished in third place with 12.18 percent of the vote, but was deemed the winner of the poll by the WWE overlords anyway. Candice Michelle actually had a low vote tally with a 4.26 percent vote total. Mickie James garnered over five times the amount of votes of Candice, but is not even mentioned in the blurb on WWE.com. Melina and Torrie Wilson also finished ahead of Candice.
As far as the other poll results are concerned, they appear to be legitimate as the results listed on WWE.com match up with the actual poll results.

I think he'd be quite good at "epic comeback" fights as most matches he gets beat down to the point he can't stand and still wins it. I reckon the best set up for him would be to have another Tag Title run whilst holding the intercontinental title. I miss the attitude era!

- The plan heading into Armageddon was for Triple H to beat Jeff Hardy, but was apparently changed since it was pretty well known Trips was going over.

Former WWE Star ****** Off At WWE & Vince McMahon
12/19/2007 by Ryan Clark

Former WWE star Damian Demento is now a 'YouTube Shooter'. He's posted up a few videos on YouTube with his thoughts on a few things relating to pro wrestling. Previously, he was posting up videos displaying his art work, but he's now talking about wrestling.

In one video, Damian Demento is angry with WWE because they brought up his name & put up his picture on the company website to hype the 15th Raw Anniversary show a few weeks ago. His name is frequently brought up when people look back on the history of Raw because he wrestled Undertaker in the main event of the debut edition of Raw in 1993. He is angry because he thinks fans on the Internet will talk negatively about him and say that he was a "nobody" and that he never won a title or had a major angle. He then adds, "I'll say this much though. I maintained my integrity and my reputation, and nobody can take that away from me. So all you little ring rats out there, that are going to start saying crap, you have no idea, no idea. I didn't ask for this. So keep your stupid comments to yourself. So what is said. So what is written. So shall it be done." You can see that video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0AlsyCQIs0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0AlsyCQIs0).

He also posted another video relating to his phone number circulating among people in wrestling. Apparently, after WWE put up his picture on their website, he started getting phone calls from wrestling convention promoters looking to book him. Demento said, "Thanks a lot Vince McMahon. Now I'm getting phone calls from trade show agents who wanna book me. What do they think, I'm I'm stuck in the past? I didn't ask for this crap. Because you guys went and put my picture up on your website, people think I'm out there and I'm still living Damian Demento. It's in the past. And I wanna know who gave out my (expletive) phone number. I don't wanna be getting phonecalls. I put wrestling, way behind me... I'm gonna find out... And it better not be who I think it is..." You can view that video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuMCrLlV1_4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuMCrLlV1_4).

There's also a video where he challenges Vince McMahon. He says that if you search on YouTube, there's a bunch of videos showing botched spots from wrestlers. He doesn't want wrestlers taking these unnecessary risks because they can seriously hurt themselves. He challenges McMahon to put an end to wrestlers doing those high flying spots. He then switches subjects and encourages the usage of steroids. "Frankly, wrestling's fake and I wanna see a freak show. I don't want to see a 190 pound guy or a 210 pound guy. I want to see a freak out there. That's what it's all about." He then says that he's going to be 50 years old soon, and if he could get a hold of steroids, he would take them because he's competing against a bunch of younger guys in the construction business who could take his spot. He feels if they could get make him more physically capable to do his job, he'd use them because it would mean more money and more food on the table for his family. You can view that video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4fsnmObYyM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4fsnmObYyM).

It should also be noted that he's apparently "acting" to a degree in these videos. In one reply to a person on YouTube, he wrote, "You're not supposed to laugh. Haven't my acting classes paid off? I'll have to crank it up a notch... without profanity. thanks, I think you "get it" unlike others." Also, he had an old account on YouTube, but closed it a few weeks ago. He did a rant on the Iron Sheik, but thought it was a mistake after people started posting negative replies to the video. He said his views in the video weren't his real views. He wrote, "My earlier rant that I removed was a bad commentary of Sheik. It got alot of attention, but folks thought they were my views. I removed the whole site because of all the negative comments, some of which were filled with cussing."

Stone Cold Steve Austin recently had his name changed legally.

That’s right, Steve Williams has legally changed his to Steve Austin.

Not exactly sure why Steve Austin decided to do this, but we’re assuming that it has something to do with copyrights, trademarks, and other financially motivated reasons.

Steve Austin joins the Ultimate Warrior and Chyna as wrestling personalities who have recently changed their names.

Raw tapings.

Dark Matches & Heat Taping:

- Nick Nemeth vs. Brian Kendrick. Kendrick got the win in a pretty dull match.

- Super Crazy vs. Snitsky. Snitsky wins in a pretty quick match.

- Davis Owens vs DH Smith. DH got the win and was surprisingly over with the crowd.

- Drew McEntyre vs. Charlie Haas. Drew gets the win in a match that saw Charlie wear a luchador mask.

-Hardcore Holly vs Trevor Murdoch. Holly gets the win and a nice pop.

- Here comes JR and the King to open RAW...

- Ric Flair video airs highlighting his career.

- Randy Orton Video airs highlighting his year in 2007.

- Randy Orton comes out for a promo. Jeff Hardy comes out and shows clips of him getting the pinfall on RAW two weeks ago. Hardy ends up reversing a RKO and laying Orton out with his own RKO.

- Another Ric Flair video

Next week on Raw: The Raw Roulette. Superstars will spin a wheel and wrestle in various WWE gimmick matches. < - :D!

- The Hardys are backstage... Matt asked if Jeff wins the WWE Title at the Rumble, if Matt could have a title shot if Jeff wins at Royal Rumble... Jeff says yes, lets go talk about it and they walk off...

- HBK vs. Mr. Kennedy. Typical match between the two. Kennedy gets the win with a clean pin.

- Backstage with Regal, Vince, & HHH... If HHH loses, he can't compete in the Royal Rumble.

- Backstage with Jillian Hall, Ron Simmons, & Big **** Johnson. **** is dancing... we get a DAMN!

- Backstage with Vince and Regal... Vince says Regal vs Hornswoggle tonight is announced.

- Tribute To The Troops video shows

- Umaga defeats Hacksaw Jim Duggan in a Royal Rumble qualifying match.

- Backstage segment with Flair and Vince McMahon. Vince told Flair its over for him and his career tonight.

- JBL return video airs.

- JBL makes his return to RAW, coming in a limousine to ringside. Lots of balloons and confettie come down from the rafters. JBL comes out and talks about power. Y2J's music hits and he attacks JBL and the two begin to brawl. The refs come down and break it up.

- Small intermission while they clean the debris...

- Beth Phoenix retains the WWE Women's Title against Mickie James in a good match.

- Regal vs Hornswoggle ends in a No contest... Vince gave Regal brass knuckles and told him to use them. Regal couldn't so Hornswoggle runs up the ramp. Vince comes in and berates Regal who then leaves. Vince said it was a test for Regal to see how he would do.

- Jeff Hardy video promo

- Jeff Hardy vs. Santino Marella. Match starts off and Orton comes on the TitanTron while the match is going on and beats up Matt Hardy in the back... Orton kicks Matt in the head... Jeff leaves the match to help Matt and is shown backstage tending to Matt with the refs.

- Triple H vs. Ric Flair. Huge pop as expected for Flair who is introduced last. Both men hit their signature moves. Flair locks on the figure four for a few minutes. I'm not sure, but I think it was Vince McMahon or Regal who came down and interfered, causing Flair to win by DQ.

Dark Main Event
Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho defeated Randy Orton and JBL when Hardy hit his Swanton Bomb. Good match.

Is the Raw roulette rigged or is it actualyl randomly selected?

Slash
07-01-2008, 11:59 PM
^ I think it's rigged.

After a backstage incident in Iraq, there are several people within WWE (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/wwe_news.shtml)who now see Randy Orton (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/randy_orton.shtml) as something of a locker room leader. Orton is viewed as one of the few guys who don’t take crap from HHH and Shawn Michaels (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/shawn_michaels.shtml).
The backstage incident in Iraq, of all places, involved Umaga (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/umaga.shtml) having tights (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2008/17/randy_orton_312891.shtml#) made for his match and the seamstress telling him he couldn’t use those colors because they are HHH’s colors, but he insisted on it. Michaels threw a fit about Umaga’s tights when he saw him go through the curtain and Orton was the only one who stood up for Umaga. Orton is said to have the same attitude that Michaels used to, but since Orton has stood up to people that a lot of the locker room doesn’t like, and knows they would loose their jobs if they stood up to them, Orton has become popular.

The show opened with Teddy Long and Vickie Guerrero in the ring. Vickie calls out Rey Mysterio (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/rey_mysterio.shtml). Rey expresses disgust at the changes in Vickie's life and her relationship (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2008/19/smackdown_313020.shtml#) with Edge. This brings out the Rated R Superstar to make out with Vickie and talk down to Rey. Then Chavo Guerrero comes out to say that he, too, thinks Vickie is tarnishing the Guerrero name. Vickie books Rey vs. Chavo for tonight. They do a staredown while Edge, Vickie, and Teddy leave.

Jamie Noble defeated Chuck Palumbo with a crucifix after a fairly underwhelming match. Afterwards, Chuck blames Michelle McCool for the loss and yells at her in the corner until Noble chases him off. (Note: They did a retape of the end of this segment later on in the show. No idea why.)

MVP vs. Ric Flair (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/ric_flair.shtml) is announced for the Royal Rumble. MVP (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/mvp.shtml) talks down Flair and says he will make an example out of Flair's former protege. In the subsequent match, Batista (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/batista.shtml) defeats MVP via countout. Afterwards, MVP grabs a chair and Batista gives him a huge spear.

Undertaker (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2008/19/smackdown_313020.shtml#) defeats Mark Henry (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/mark_henry.shtml) and Matt Striker in a handicapped match via tombstone piledriver on Striker. This was a glorified squash. Big Daddy V came out afterwards and this led to a 2 on 1 beatdown of the Deadman.

Earlier in the show, Mr. McMahon, Hornswaggle, and Finlay were backstage. Vince talked up Hornswaggle's chances of winning the Royal Rumble. Finlay said it was not safe for Hornswaggle to be in the Rumble and that Vince wasn't "living up to their deal." Vince said Finlay promised never to mention it again. Hornswaggle defeated Runjan Singh in an arm wrestling match. Great Khali (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/great_khali.shtml) attacked Finlay after the match.

Kane defeated Deuce via pinfall after a chokeslam in a quick squash.

Rey Mysterio defeated Chavo Guerrero after a 619 and a headbutt off the top. Edge (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wrestlers/edge.shtml) and the Edgeheads attacked Rey after the match. Edge posed with the title to end the show.

Other notes: Kofi Kingston (http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2008/19/smackdown_313020.shtml#) and Funaki defeated the Highlanders in a pre-show dark match. Kingston was way over and the match was halfway decent.
Batista defeated Edge via disqualification after a low-blow in a World Championship dark match after the show. The Edgeheads jumped Batista but Rey Mysterio made the save. Batista and Rey laid out Edge to close out the night.

TVPredictions.com features a story on WWE spending $20 million in order to upgrade their television production facility in Stamford, Ct. so they are able to deal with the new capacity for HD broadcasts. More upgrades will be made later this year.

Friday night’s edition of WWE SmackDown! scored a 2.9 overnight rating. The show’s hours scored a 2.8 in the first hour and a 3.0 in the second hour. This is a slight improved from last week’s 2.8 overall rating.

Over a week has now passed since Jimmy Yang and Shannon Moore defeated John Morrison and The Miz in Canton, Ohio in a WWE Royal Rumble qualifying match. We reported earlier that The Wrestling Observer Newsletter had noted a big name of WWE's past - a multi-champion superstar was set to return with the company.

The January 14th edition of the Newsletter confirms that former multi-time WWE Champion Paul Wight - The Big Show - has either signed with the company or has agreed to a deal, and will be starting full-time very soon.

Big Show is down to 440 lbs after leaving pro wrestling to rest, and pursue a possible career in boxing, which obviously included boxing training that got him in quite a good shape. Dave Meltzer also mentions in the Observer that a part of his boxing deal was that Hulk Hogan was to be his "front man" acting like a manager in wrestling for him by doing promos and appearances. This was also the main reason many boxing promoters were actually interested in Big Show and paying him so much money to learn the sport. These plans, however, fell apart at some point, and Show realized that at his age, boxing might not be the right direction to go anyway. There have also been no recent updates or even talks of Hogan doing his own wrestling tour - a very discussed topic of the past. Hence with nothing on the horizon, Big Show is back with WWE.
