The first episode of Gainax's new series that was apparently highly influenced by The Powerpuff Girls is out today. I'm gonna watch it and see if it does anything for me, although I never was a fan of The Powerpuff Girls. Although this is Gainax... they did Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, if anyone can make it good its them.

Looks rather eccentric anyway, haha. I'll let you guys know what I think.
So I watched Panty & Stocking and it was actually pretty good. The first half was a little boring but the second half was genius. I'd recommend it.

^ What the hell? mum walked past and thought i was watching well you know. xD
and looking at another forum i go on noticed i had a reply from Andrew from Beez. Asked about bring over the OP movies if the Series was to risky to bring over
"It's conceivable and it's something I am certainly keen to look into over the next year or so."
Awesome.
Finished my FMA:B BD :( so might buy another series. looking for some bargins :D

The first half of Panty and Stocking was boring but the second part is precisely why Gainax are considered the craziest animation studio around. It's amazing how far the animation in anime series has come in only a few years.
Also, up to episode 19 of Utawarerumono! I had forgotten how spot on the comedy in this series was. It isn't in your face, it's subtle, well timed and geniously planned.

I used to watch anime years ago. Yu-Yu Hakusho was the first anime I actually started getting interested in, with Inuyasha being a close, close second.
Sadly, I feel I've grown out of those days.

I don't think anime is something you can grow out of unless you constantly watch shows aimed at younger audiences like YuYu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Naruto and Bleach. There are so many mature anime series and movies out there that could keep one going for a life time. I know some guy on MyAnimeList who is like in his forties but is still very enthusiastic about anime. The next few decades will be an interesting time for the medium since it has recenty gained more mainstream appeal and people are going to continue watching it as they grow older, so companies will probably start targeting older fans like they already do for manga in Japan. It'll be exciting to see what they produce in the years to come. You should watch Death Note, it never fails at reminding you why you liked anime in the first place.

Just watched Grave of the Fireflies and I think it is one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. Darn good, though. I was going to watch Barefoot Gen afterwards but I think Grave of the Fireflies is enough depression for one day haha. There are so many American and British war movies that it is always refreshing seeing one from a Japanese perspective.

Yeah, it's about a smart young man named Light who finds a book called a Death Note. He discovers that whoevers name he writes in the book will die, so he decides to start ridding the world of evil by killing all of the criminals. Japan's top detective then enters the fray and starts tracking down the boy and the series quickly shifts into a cat and mouse game between the detective and the killer. It is a very smart, incredibly well written series with endless moments of greatness and tons of plot twists to keep you guessing. It was one of the first anime series I ever saw and to this day remains one of my favourites.

You'll regret not seeing Evangelion 2.0. It is mindblowing on the big screen. I saw it in London and everyone came out of the cinema in awe. The entire cinema applauded the movie about three times in ten minutes as well - when the film ended, when Hideaki Anno's name came up at the end of the credits and after the next movie preview and end of credits sequence (someone actually squealed like a little fangirl when this came on haha). It was immense. The sound was also turned up so high that some loud parts during the first film made the seats rumble. Hands down, Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0 was the best experience I have ever had watching a movie at the cinema, nothing even comes close to rivalling it. Ask anyone who has seen it on the big screen, they'll recommend you go.

Finished Utawarerumono for the second time. It was probably the most enjoyment I ever had rewatching an anime series. It always gets me how complex the series is under its seemingly simple surface. Hakuoro's backstory is probably my all-time favourite out of any anime as well, although Vash's is also very good. I think I'll go and watch the Utawarerumono specials again now followed by the OVA.

BD has been out since May. :) Watching it in 1080p is mindblowing, but of course nothing beats a cinema experience. :P Thora subbed it, you can find it on their website (http://www.thoranime.org/?p=1540). Old people watching One Piece is kinda of strange, haha. When I went to see Evangelion there were all ages there; young, old, male, female, english, japanese, etc... but Evangelion was orginally an old series so it makes sense. It's nice watching anime in a cinema environment though, because you get to see how diverse the medium really is. Has Redline shown yet? Did you see it? It was only just released in Japanese cinemas a couple of days ago. The DVD and BD won't be out for a looooong time. >_<
Also... Expo in under two weeks! I've been really ill lately so it has kind of crept up on me! I'm not going to have much money for it this time around, so no big purchases, but its all about the experience anyway.

Yes, everything in Death Note is explained later on. There are many twists and turns but as long as you pay attention you should get everything and the ending closes the series perfectly.

Also, just got back from the MCM Expo. Travelling back home was a bloody mission. Really, really, really wish I booked a hotel. Anyway, it was great fun. Since only people who had ordered weekend tickets could get in today it was very quiet which was actually quite surreal. I played Goldeneye on the Wii which was a lot of fun (we were playing a 3 player death match and I won because I am amazing) and I also played Kirby's Epic Yarn, the upcoming Donkey Kong game and Marvel vs Capcom 3, which were all great. Didn't take many photos as there'll be much more to photograph over the weekend. I spent around £65, bought the Baccano! boxset (£20), Cowboy Bebop boxset (£30), Professor Layton movie (£5) and Kino's Journey boxset (£10). Also saw the Samurai Champloo boxset for £30 which I might get tomorrow and the Death Note boxset as well for the same price.
Fantastic day until the journey home. We were unable to get pizza afterwards (which I was looking forward too) because the place was damn busy, although I was prepared to roam around London all night or sleep in a hotel lobby, but my friend wanted to go home. What a party pooper! I also received many high fives today and hugged a storm trooper. They're real nice guys, really. Saw some real good cosplay too but as I said I didn't take many photos, although I did get a photo of two guys from A Clockwork Orange, Haruka from Fooly Cooly, the Cookie Monster and some others. I'll put some of them on deviantart when the event is over on Monday. I'll hopefully record some stuff and make a YouTube video as well.
Do I have anything else to report... I don't think so. Walked around the Excel all day, bought stuff, hugged and high fived people, saw one Gintama cosplayer, watched the Eagle Awards, saw a Franky cosplayer that looked like he wanted to rape someone at the Premier Inn hotel and then I came home. A very tame Expo day if you ask me. I know tomorrow is going to be absolutely insane though. Guess I better go to bed now as I'll have to get up at like 6:30am to get there just before it opens. Oh the joys of having to travel everywhere. I wouldn't recommend it, the train costs an arm and a leg. More Expo experiences tomorrow people! Unless of course I beg the hotel to give me a room then you'll have to wait until Sunday. Although I am probably just talking to myself anyway!

I'm still happy to keep going as long as other people post as well.
One Piece was actually discussed during the industry panel at the Expo. Some guy asked if it would ever come over to the UK and the manga guy said they have been in constant talks with Toei, but it is taking longer than usual because they first have to talk to Toei Europe who then go off and talk with Toei Japan, who then send back their thoughts and what they would like done different, then Toei Europe have to report back to Manga, then Manga have to report back to Toei Europe when then go and speak with Toei Japan again, it is taking a lot longer than usual because of the three way conversation.
The guy from Manga also said Toei can be a bit of a pain, for example they inquired about licensing Strong World but for them to get Strong World Toei want them to license all of the movies and he said that Japanese companies in general are wary of licensing things to the UK because they don't want Japanese customers to import things from our country for much cheaper than anime is in theirs. He also expressed concerns with the length of One Piece and how big a commitment distributing it will be and that over here the demand for One Piece may not be enough to support what they're doing.
He was talking about One Piece for a good five minutes and concluded that there is a lot of factors they have to really consider, but constructive talks have been going on for some time and they are getting somewhere so it is likely One Piece may eventually come over to the UK.
They also talked about the second season of Haruhi for anyone interested; because of the Endless Eight (8 episodes that are nearl enough exactly the same) he said that will of course put people off buying the series and because of that they're going to bundle the Nyoron Tsuruya san and The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya webisodes with the release, which I personally think it a fantastic idea. Plus although with the second series of Haruhi Manga have also licensed The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie, but it won't be out for a while. Other licenses from Manga included K-ON!, Birdy The Mighty: Decode, the second season of Hetalia, Casshern Sins and Highschool of the Dead.
Beez have licensed two shows from the last season; The House of the Five Leaves and The Tatami Galaxy and MVM have licensed The Tower of Druaga and relicensed some of their old shows to ensure they will still be available in the UK. Andrew Partridge also announced he was leaving Beez on Monday and is joining another company named Kaze, which will be distruibuting titles to the UK so thankfully that means we have one other anime distributor over here now.
That's all I can remember from the industry panel! They did talk about bluray but I have already posted about that.

Nice, I am thinking of getting the vizbig's for Vagabond because some of the single volumes are becoming increasingly hard to get ahold of, but I have already bought the first 8 volumes so that's a bit of a waste but the vizbigs are such good value for money. I haven't bought any manga in a while though. Still after Evangelion which seems to be out of print and I really want to get Mushishi while I can, since come December Del Rey are withdrawing from publishing manga, but I spent all of my money on travel and at the Expo over the weekend. Typical really, just as they finish publishing the series it isn't going to be available for much longer. Speaking of Expo here (http://i56.tinypic.com/59wi3b.png) is what I bought/got for free. Didn't buy anything on Saturday which is a first for me and only just spent over £80. Usually I spend over £100 easily. First time I went I spent like £250. Although it's not like I had money to throw away this time. :P

Yeah, Vagabond is fantastic! I really need to get back into it and the best Cowboy Bebop boxset is the Remix one which I have. It's very well presented, folds out nicely and such and all works fine and dandy. Not many extras but Bebop is rather old so that is to be expected.
It's Professor Layton, not Mr. Layton. :P I had never played any of the games before I watched the movie and I loved it. The characters are great and would you believe there is even a guy more manly than Kamina in there! Plus the movie was only £5 so I'm not complaining. :D They had a deluxe edition that had the DVD and Bluray copies of the film, along with an extra disc for extras and some massive booklet and artcards and stuff but that was like £30. They had another set that was £15 that included both the DVD and Bluray copies of the film, but I don't have a bluray player so I just stuck with the plain old DVD version. :P
Manga had soooo much cheap DVDs there. Entire Claymore series for £10, entire Darker than Black series for £10, the massive Death Note boxset for £30, etc. Wish I bought at least Claymore because that is by far the cheapest I have seen it anywhere.

Because he runs off, hides in a cave, then they introduce new villains we really couldn't care less about. Way to ruin a fantastic build up. It caught the 'this is a shounen so we have to drag it out for all it's worth' disease.
Oh no worries there, I have all 201 episodes downloaded. I'm ready to rewatch it any time. :8

I might just check it out for the sake of it. :P By the way Nail, are you watching My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute aka Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai? I finished watching One Outs, I thought it was rather good and for some strange reason it reminded me of Death Note. I did not really like the ending, too abrupt in my opinion but it was a good series none the less. I'm 19 episodes through Great Teacher Onizuka, my internet is scheduled to be reconnected on Thursday. I'm posting this off my iPhone fyi.
I've exams all this week too, should really be revising but cannot be bothered seeing as they are only mocks. I've got Politics on Thursday and ICT on Friday. Once I get that over with I'll be good :)

Indeed, but if they did another long on-going series they would just catch up with the manga all the time, so I think multiple 26 episodes series are probably for the best. 26 episodes still takes longer than six months to air though, so it isn't too bad. Not as if it's broadcast for a couple of weeks then finishes again. :P

There was some black guy dressed as Ichigo at the first Expo I went to back in 2008 and my friends started calling him Blikchigo. :8

Nope, organisation is necessary in society.
My friends calling him Blikchigo were also black by the way... lol.
...and morphsuits are great. They're just an excuse to act incredibly stupid and to proudly embarrass yourself. Gonna have so much fun in them. :8
Also, your aunt has probably seen Gurren Lagann. You should have started quoting the moves with her. I'll let you borrow my light up core drill that came with the boxset.

But you get EMA, that's only like one weeks worth of EMA. Thankfully I am so good at saving that I have managed to accumulate quite a sum again. Dunno whether I should order the morphsuit now or to wait until it gets closer to the expo though.
Think I might go and squeeze it out now and I am totally knackered so I will probably go to bed afterwards, so goodbye for now! Have a good Boxing Day everyone! Remember to watch Top Gear.

I also love how the film is being introduced by Helen McCarthy, who is perhaps the single most important person in the UK as far as anime goes. She is highly responsible for the start and growth of the anime industry in this country. I attended one of her talks at the Expo last October about the UK anime industry and writing about anime and manga professionally. She was an inspiration. Will be great to see her again.
Oh and another thing I love is how they got popular Japanese actors to do the voice work. Tadanobu Asano is an absolutely brilliant, phenomenally diverse actor who has starred in lead roles in films by both Takeshi Kitano and Takeshi Miike (possibly the two biggest directors in Japan) and is even going to be in Marvel's upcoming Thor film. Yu Aoi, who voices the main female character, is huge in Japan and has starred in some of the best Japanese dramas I have ever seen (All About Lily Chou-Chou and Hana and Alice) and Takuya Kimura, who voices the main male character, starred in Love and Honour, which was made by Oscar-nominated director Yoji Yamada. I know no one actually cares, but Redline is a film chock-full of talent! It has been in the making for seven years.
^ OMG LOL might see you there then. :8 If everything goes to plan I'll be going with two of my fellow anime-loving friends.

I have two friends which are pretty much on the same level of anime fandom as me, then a few more friends who are casual fans, then the rest who watch a few Ghibli movies here and there or just don't watch anime. For some reason when I started college I just met loads of people who were into anime. I didn't know anyone who was into anime in high school rofl.

Aha, me and my friends met a hardcore japanophile in college. He was just some insane anime fan that knew eveything about the medium. He also remains to this day the only person I have ever met who has actually seen Utawarerumono. We kind of ignored him after a while though because he got weird. Starting saying sayonara instead of goodbye and stuff like that.
I also met one of my dads friends sons the other week who was into anime and manga, he was pretty cool. Some super hardcore gamer though, he had like 30 consoles, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, all the retro stuff. We played Goldeneye 007 on N64 and had a total nerdgasm over the retro awesomeness. Didn't realise there still existed 16 year olds who played the classics.
The two friends who nearly match me in fandomness have pretty good tastes. One is madly in love with One Piece and Dragon Ball but still watches a lot of other things and the other is into more obscure, arty things but never lets a good actioner pass (although he is also a big fan of Naruto as well when it's good, but when it's bad he criticises it like there's no tomorrow lmao). I also share a deep love for Japanese films with the second friend. We're always recommending each other stuff. I got them both into so much anime though, haha. Gurren Lagann, Sword of the Stranger, Hajime no Ippo, etc. Good times.

Atleast with your japanophile, he knew what he was talking about and knew lots and lots, albeit too much but still. These japanophiles just copy the culture bits like the peace sign in photos and dress/talk (yes much worse than just sayonara) and its like ughhhhhh. To be honest some episodes of Naruto are reeeeeeally good and I am being dead serious. Last summer I had the house to myself for a week so I invited some friends around and the one who likes Japanese movies and arty stuff brought over his PS3. At like 3:00am we were just flicking through all the random stuff he had on it and came across and episode of Naruto, he put it on for a bit and we ended up watching the whole episode because it was actually awesome. I actually think I posted the episode somewhere in this thread (yep, here (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=578436&p=6667947#post6667947) it is). Hands down, one of the best fights I have ever seen in an anime series. Still think Gintama has the best fights though.

Oh yeah, im not saying naruto is the worst thing ever, i just absolutely hate how people cream all over it. It does have its good moments, but the majority of the time its a filler or moves incredibly slowly (admittedly one piece does that :P). Also the fact they call it the best anime ever just disgusts me ;<
only reason i like it because of the ninja aspect of it

well from what i remember
ichigo like beat aizen and then aizen's immortal so they've just sentenced him to 40,000 years in prison or something (injustice tbh, probably an english judge lololol). But like to defeat him, ichigo used final getsuga tenshou, literally final so he lost all his powers. For Christmas I got both volumes of A Distant Neighbourhood (manga) and Satoshi Kon: The Illusionist, which is a retrospective on all of the directors work (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent and Paprika). I've read the introduction and the part on Tokyo Godfathers so far, it's really good. They're the only anime/manga related things I got though. However I did buy myself Ponyo on DVD the other day.

i mostly bought other dvs like i got Family guy and futurama boxsets for under £100. but got bleach season 4, Battle royale blu ray number 1742 or something out of 10,000. and Funimation Trigun Boxset.
And mater pointed this out to me. recent update to Guild wars game on pc. theres a hero that shouts quotes from Gurren Lagann
"His quotes: "Mine is the spirit that will pierce the heavens!", "Who do you think I am?", "Don't believe in yourself; believe in me, the one who believes in you!", and "Go beyond the impossible, and kick reason to the curb. That's the Ebon Falcon way!" are references to some of Kamina's more memorable lines from the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurren_Lagann)."

I watched it the other day and it was absolutely amazing. The rest of the films I got were mostly English-language, although I did treat myself to Pan's Labyrinth and I got Let the Right One In (which is Swedish). All fantastic films.
Spent around £100 on Amazon (and other websites) yesterday on assorted things. Thought I better get the rest of the Mushishi manga since Del Rey not longer exist so everything by them is going out of print. Going to order volume 11 of Kurokami and volume 9 of Yotsuba soon as well. I actually haven't bought any manga in so long. Hoping to buy the Trigun and Samurai Champloo boxsets soon too.

Great, volume six of Mushishi seems to be unavailable to buy everywhere. Plus the t-shirt I ordered is too big! Going to have to send it back and exchange it for a smaller one. Since when was medium actually huge? Damn American sizes. Online shopping, why must you annoy me so!

SHANE BLACK (LEATHAL WEAPON, KISS, KISS, BANG, BANG) WILL DIRECT THE LIVE-ACTION HOLLYWOOD DEATH NOTE
"Warner Bros. has hired Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang) to direct the studio's live-action feature film version of the Japanese manga, Death Note.
According to Deadline, Black will also "oversee" the script that's being written by his Doc Savage colleagues Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.
"It's my favorite manga, I was just struck by its unique and brilliant sensibility," Black told Deadline. "What we want to do is take it back to that manga, and make it closer to what is so complex and truthful about the spirituality of the story, versus taking the concept and trying to copy it as an American thriller. [Warner Bros. execs] Jeff Robinov and Greg Silverman liked that."
In Japan, Death Note has beget live-action and animated films, as well as an animated series, video games and books.
The U.S. movie will be produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Brian Witten."

People still buy manga? I thought print media was a dying business...
That is actually the most outrageous thing I have heard this year so far. Manga is insanely popular throughout the world, especially in Japan, Korea and France where they're all crazy about it. Right now manga is more popular than it has ever been and is still climbing. To say 'people still buy manga?' is the same as saying 'people still buy comics?' or 'people still buy novels?' yet there they are selling millions.

Join the club, Nail. My email address got hacked as well, just before Christmas. :P The guy got access to one of my old email addresses and was then able to take over any other email address that was attatched to it, which happened to include my main one. So if you have any email addresses attatched to your main one I would recommend deleting them once you get it back. Good luck with that Microsoft contact thing. I didn't even bother with it when my email address got hacked, it looked so long and dreary.

ThatDudeInTheSuede made a 30 minute video on Advent Children where he just SLATED it. Love it when a mormon trolls an entire community. Final Fantasy isn't really my thing, but the animation in Advent Children is quite impressive.

I think the guy just managed to work out my secret question or they either pretended they were me and got access to the email address via Microsoft. Then since the email address was attatched to numerous others and was the primary one, he was able to take over my other email addresses as well. That whole thing is just a security flaw really. It's all fine and dandy when it isn't the one that gets hacked so you can log in and recover your other account, but if it is the one that gets hacked that's all of your email addresses gone. Well, in my case anyway. Managed to get them all back though, then I made sure to isolate every email address I had.

yeah i havent ever played any of the FFs or seen any of the movies, but it certainly looks stunning. Its sadly in english dub but the copy i have is so amazingly awesome i just cba to find an eng sub. Also i apparently wont understand the plot that rwell since i hadnt played the game and much of the true art is the fight scenes.

Are you talking to me or someone else? If you're talking to me, what differences are you on about? I don't remember any differences. You told me not to say anything because you hadn't seen it yet, but yes it is a great film, although far from the best. I put it at number ten in my top ten anime films last time I composed a list, that's probably a little outdated now however. Still can't forgive the film for inexcusable plot holes. Just how is Yuki able to steal Haruhi's powers? I posted about it on MAL and no one was able to give me a straight answer and some commented that they encountered the same problem reading the novel.

My account got hacked aswell o.o so did couple other people i know. and MS is a pain gave them all the info i could. didnt think it was my account. Sent them a message again telling them stuff again and then they send me emails to retrieve my account back but i was busy at work and didnt check my emails and they expired and the pin thing you use to talk to them is now gone so im gonna have to do it all again. and i need that account back >_<
Msn sucks now anyway. Can't send links and removed Music mix. Downgraded from the new msn aswell.
Decided im going to buy Bootleg boxset of monster. doubt viz is ever gonna release it. Probs do the same for new challenger and the ova.

Also, it's Takeshi Kitano's birthday today! If you don't know about him then what is wrong with you? He is the best film director in the world. Totally going to rewatch Violent Cop tonight.

I think Rumbel said they're subbing it but they take forever. They've been subbing Gintama for years and are only up to episode 146. At their rate they won't finish the first series until 2013. Hoping crunchyroll pick up the second series of Gintama so that HorribleSubs can release the episodes super fast.

Gooood neeeeeeeews! The Trigun movie has been subbed, apparently it's excellent. You can grab bluray torrents at the usual place (http://www.tokyotosho.info/search.php?terms=trigun&type=0&size_min=&size_max=&username=). Hoping my computer can still handle 720p. It just seems to be falling apart lately. Actually wow the 720p file is massive. Guess I'll just stick with 576p.

Yeah, it is a spin-off.
Wolfwood died in the series but is in the film and the trailer seemed to promote the film as 'Vash vs. Wolfwood' so expect some epic showdowns.
The guy who directed the movie is the same guy who directed the series along with Hajime no Ippo: Champion Road, so you know it's going to be awesome. :D
Well i downloaded the 720p version. SHall give it a watch today!

I can't. I have to keep deleting things little by little to make space. I'm such a hoarder. :P
I don't suppose anyone on here has heard of it. :P It's kind of done in the same style of Pulp Fiction, wherein it follows different people and different storylines at the same time. The main one is about a man who continously kills his wife as she won't stay dead. Every time he kills her and disposes of her body, when he arrives home she is already there waiting for him (she tries to kill him as well). The other stories are about an intriguing advert producer, a man who gets hypnotised into thinking he is a bird, three young thieves and a hitman from London played by Vinnie Jones. You've never seen a film quite like this.
