That's Kemonozume. I've talked about it before but no one seemed to care or just shunned it because of the art style. :P It's one of the first series I ever downloaded (like four years ago) but I still haven't watched it. It's by the same guy who directed Mind Game though, so it has to be good.

why chris no comment on gintama anymore :(

Because I'm like five episodes behind. :P Haven't watched any anime in ages. How ironic is it that I go on forever about Gintama starting up again then when it finally does I fall behind in no time. I just haven't been in the mood for anime lately. Once I finished the Nana anime a month or two ago I starting reading the manga, but the ending was so tragic I am now in a recovery period before I immerse myself in the medium once again.

The comedy works great in the manga by the way. If it didn't the series wouldn't be 40 volumes long and have the best anime adaptation around. :naughty:

Apparently it gets really boring because Kenshin just takes down all the bad guys in one strike, there's no decent action and the filler ending is absolute crap. You should just watch the OVA - Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal.

Evangelion 2.22 is BY FAR the best anime film I have ever seen, and that's coming from someone who absolutely adores The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and has met the creators of Sword of the Stranger! Go to any anime website and it'll be in the top three highest rated films. 30,000 people can't be wrong.

I'm not talking about Neon Genesis Evangelion... I am talking about Rebuild of Evangelion - the reimaginings that were made over a decade after the original series. They're two entirely different entities which I have explain numerous times before.

I can compare it to FMA, actually. Neon Genesis Evangelion is like the original FMA series and the Rebuild of Evangelion films are like FMA: Brotherhood. It's that kind of difference. I've given both FMA series a go and I did actually say I liked Brotherhood by the way.

Lets settle this on Brawl. First to five. If I win you watch the two Evangelion films. If you win I start watching FMA again.

Death Note if you want a series, or if you're a viewer with a more acquired taste then Baccano is another good starting point. It's done in the same nonlinear style as Pulp Fiction. If you would rather start with a film then Spirited Away or Sword of the Stranger, or if you want something more hardcore then Ghost in the Shell.

I think it's Hakuoro's backstory and the whole God theme that makes it very impressive. Plus the fact that throughout the series Hakuoro starts his own empire from scratch and totally owns everyone. Plus the world it's set in is so frickin' amazing and the characters are all a very colourful, charismatic bunch. Everything about the series is just so damn good. I loved the backgrounds as well, usually I take very little notice in the sets and stuff like that in anime but in Utawarerumono they were all hand painted. GOD. The series is so good.

Death Note seems to have that rare power able to grab anyone. I remember there were a few who shunned anime on here back in the day, but some gave Death Note a try and were completely sucked in. If you think it's good now, just wait until later. I don't think I'll ever seen a better psychological mind battle in a film, series or anything, anime or otherwise. The twists and turns in the story are also frickin' genius and the characters are so intriguing. I could go on about it all day!

Most English dubs are barely watchable if you actually care about the quality of a series, but the Death Note dub is okay. It is one million times better in Japanese though. The last episode has some of the most intense and impressive voice acting I have ever witnessed.

I guess it can become confusing on first viewing, especially with Light and L engaging in constant mind battle and Light executing master plans left right and center, but I found that Death Note was always a series that explained itself. By the end I understood everything perfectly clear.

Dammit, you're blitzing through now! :P

Rem didn't kill Watari and L though, Light did. It was all part of his master plan, so if you want to blame anyone, blame him. :P L is absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the most intriguing characters of all time, but surprisingly my emotions when he died were less sadness and more excitement. You just have to admire the genius of Light.

Unfortunately the series dips a little after L's death, before picking up tenfold in the last two episodes. I have never been so engrossed in anything, ever.

I'm still a bit confused as to how he knew Rem would kill watari and L, after all, she wanted what's best for Misa, and Light is clearly using Misa, and Misa knew that, she should've killed Light! I'm only saying this because I want L to win though :P
I'm on epsiode 30 now, I'm glad that N has been introduced, and kind of happy Lights dad has been killed, kind of revenge for L's death haha

But Misa loves Light dearly, had Rem killed Light it would have destroyed Misa. Rem does indeed want whats best for her, which is why she killed L and Watari. You'll probably understand by the end of the series, but if you don't I will be able to explain it better.

I really hate Near with a passion. I like to think the series ended after L's death, but the last two episodes are just too brilliant to discard. Plus Mikami is a monster and so interesting to watch. It just isn't the same without L, though. I was probably saddest about Yagami Soichiro's death. He was the only sane, truly innocent and kind character in the entire series. I wouldn't really call it revenge though, as Light is beyond caring about anyone but himself at this point. His dads death didn't affect him in the slightest.

@Ryuzaki - Why would you even buy Afro Samurai: Resurrection? D: It was such a disappointment.

I hate Near because he is pretty much just a generic copy of L and the fact that he does near to nothing to actually work out who Kira is and just rides off of others peoples information annoys me. He just seems cheap and was definitely no match for Light. He would have been long dead had it not been for Mikami.

Matsuda totally stole the last episode for me, though. His performance was damn perfect and watching him just snap was incredibly, jaw-droppingly, breathtakingly immense.

Ah fair enough then, but he did piece it all together in the end to be fair, although I can't help but feel he used M, Also, I really don't think the should have... killed off L since they brought N in who was, as you said, exactly like him, they should have just kept L

I'm deciding which series to watch next, I'm thinking Bleach? any recommendations? :P

Near bearly pieced it all together. It was only thanks to Mello that he didn't die. I like that they killed off L. I mean he's one of my all time favourite characters, but Death Note would have just been another generic show had he beaten Light. Good wins, predictable, shows over, move on kinda thing. But Light, one of the most purely evil characters ever, was actually able to completely eradicate everything in his way and had very much begun to create his perfect world. That's what sets Death Note apart from the rest, the fact that the villain nearly always has the upper hand.

The first 140-ish episodes of Bleach (minus fillers) are great fun, but I wouldn't recommend it purely because after then it goes completely downhill and never recovers. What genres are you in to? I'm sure I could recommend a couple of series based on your tastes.

I find it interesting how the main character in Death Note, was also the Villain, it's not usually like that in most things :P Hmm, I suppose killing L, the main hero, did make the show different from most, I just thought he was a great character and would've loved a few more episodes with him, oh well.

I'm really not sure what genre, I really enjoyed Death Note, so anything similar to that. Anything dark really, thrillers, there was a series mentioned in this thread somewhere, which I looked up, it was about a guy who had something attached to his face? like a mask stuck to his head? that sounds interesting if you have any idea as to what I'm mentioning :P

That's probably Utawarerumono. It's an adventure/drama. Really, really, really good. Very character driven. Not everyones cup of tea, however. It's nothing like Death Note, so I can't really say whether you would like it or not. :P

If you want a dark thriller, go for Baccano. Or if you think you can handle it, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Probably the most controversial anime series ever. You'll either love it, or absolutely hate it. Personally I think it is one of the best series ever made. You might be better off watching the Rebuild of Evangelion films though.

I'm tempted to see as I've so much free time lately and I'm doing nothing else productive. Still watching Rurouni Kenshin though. On episode 60 out of 95 so getting there. Good series so far. Really like animes set in the Meiji era.

You should watch Peace Maker Kurogane.

The Expo is 28th to 30th of October. The one in Manchester is at the end of this month. I should hopefully be going in October as long as my friend can make it down from Sheffield.

I have a feeling by 507 the timeskip will have happened! He finally talked about his Nakama again, named them all and it ended with him saying "I want to see them all now" and "they will be waiting for me on the sunny" or something :P.

Ciguatera. I thought it would be a realistic, relatable drama about the highs and lows of adolescence... something like Solanin... but it's actually really weird and nothing like I expected. I'm half way to finishing it already though, it's quite addictive. But my search for a realistic drama about a bunch of characters finding their place in the world continues.

I buy my manga mostly online or at the Expo. I buy a volume or two occasionally from my local Waterstones and I noticed WHSmith have started selling manga as well now. I don't have a Borders near me, but they sell manga too, as do Blackwells. When I am in London I usually pop into Forbidden Planet as it's like manga heaven in there, but I find http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ is always the way to go.

I think I probably have over 300 manga now. I should count...

The best place is online. so thats where i get mine. Forbidden planet is 3 for £15 depending on what im buying i could mayb get. 4-5 for that. WH Smith are a bit pricey aswell and they have Naruto alongside the Graphic novel part but some series where tucked away in the kids section like One Piece... And lastly Waterstones, Pricey and my waterstones as gone from a decent 4 Unit display to 1 and a half. the missing half is completly full of Naruto.

The more you buy manga online the mroe you save. u may have to pay £7 in shops but books normally fall to £3-4ish and if your lucky might spot some bargins like brand new books for 1p (+£2ish shipping) so when you buy in bulk like i normally do you save money and able to buy more.

Rough count but i has 211 volumes + Viz big 1 of Vagabond and a big + Vol 1 of big Battle Royale. + 20ish JP One Piece volumes.

xP Yeah, completely forgot about all that filler they'll throw in there alongside it -.- hopefully be 510 :P

Yea well its not really filler its what i call Canon-Filler. Stuff that was in manga just the expand it to fill an ep. why i prefer canon-filler to Naruto filler arc style fillers.

It's a romance drama about about the chance meeting of two girls with the same name (Nana) who end up moving in with each other in Tokyo. One of them is really girly, the other is in a punk band. It's a shoujo, maybe not your thing, but personally I think it is one of the best anime series I have ever seen and definitely one that is going to stick with me the longest. The manga is also superb, in my top five without a doubt.

Also, a lot of them draw actual anime characters from actual series. I think they're just unaware of this section.

Also #2, considering watching Beck.

Ordered V7,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18
V 4,5,6,8,9 are all gonna cost me over £20 each unless i spot them on ebay D: so will have to finish it by looking out for some bargins.

July - Monster.
August - Fullmetal Alchemist
September - D Grayman
October - Update One Piece/Gintama/Toriko/Bakuman/Nura/Heros Tale

Bleach - Don't watch or read it currently - No opinion
Naruto - Don't watch last set of fillers killed it for me after giving it so many chances, Just read it now and even then im just flickign through it to see what happens.
One Piece - Anime - Nearing the end of the first part of the series, Manga in 2nd part of series interesting at the moment. In a place thats been mentioned quite a few times. my mate that stopped watching started again and enjoying it.

If you fancy something new Toriko, always on the top 5 for SJ polls and is a contender for the top 3 when naru/bleach finish <- thats the manga anyway. Anime is done by toei [ DBZ, OP ]

The person who confessed to the murder then starts acting weird and thinks the other person may tell people about his secret and the other person who he confessed to starts becoming paranoid and thinks that the other man is plotting to kill him. It's about two samurai and a girl in search for a legendary samurai who 'smells like sunflowers'. The main story itself is very vague at the start and many of the episodes go off on hilarious tangents, but the last couple of episodes really are the icing on the cake and it has an unbelievable amount of both memorable scenes and characters. It's one of those rare series that really reminds you why you watch anime in the first place.

I'm not tech-savvy enough to explain the ins and outs of everything, but there are a couple of programs out there that'll do it for you. Just run a Google search and I'm sure you'll find something, but really you're better off just downloading a different file format.

My anime of choice while abroad is One Piece. I will be watching from Episode 180 onwards. I've managed to get Episode 180 - 230 in mp4 format :)

woah woah, when did u watch the other 180?

I was watching One Piece about 4-5 months back, got up to Sky Island arc and then stopped. Luckily. Episode 180 is bang right in the middle of that arc so I can continue :D
PSPISO has a lot of good anime in MP4 format and is updated weekly with the new episodes of Naruto, Gintama, Bleach, Dectector Conan, Toriko and more. It also has a huge backlog of already finished series.

You need to register to download but it is free, check this thread when you've registered. http://www.pspiso.com/showthread.php?t=789974
It has an entire section dedicated to anime/manga downloads for iPhone/Touch and PSP. So there is much more!

Until we meet again, Paul.

Bought Gintama volume 22. One more volume to go before Viz pull the plug. So glad the screwdriver arc was published before they cancelled the series. Flicking through it now and besides the fact that they changed Hasegawa's Monkey Hunter name from M to D (he is called DORK instead of MADAO in the American editions =/) it's still as brilliant as ever. Fruits Punch Samurai G!

My new phone also arrives tomorrow. I'll finally be able to install some kind of manga app so I can read manga whenever I want omg squeeeeee

Yes it is. I've watched so much OP lately. I usually watch it on my iPhone before I sleep and then I end up staying awake until like 3-4am, bare in mind I go to bed at around 11pm - 1am so I watch like 10 episodes non-stop. Addicting.

I preferred New Challenger to the original season. Just because it focused a lot more on Takamura and Takamura is awesome.

In other news there is a Hunter x Hunter anime reboot starting on October 2nd. It'll be following the manga extremely closely from the very start and no fillers apparently. I've watched to read the manga but I'm too lazy so I guess I will be watching this.

Neversoft
05-08-2011, 08:58 PM
To be honest if you weigh it all up Takamura probably got more focus in the first series. He did fight then as well you know and isn't it in the first series where Ippo learned about his brutal weight training? Plus in the first series he fought a frickin' bear. Takamura vs Hawk is definitely the best fight, but I could never outright say that New Challenger is best seires. It's impossible to choose between them imo. I just view them both as a single entity, like the first and second series of Gintama.

Speaking of which, any word on a new season/movie or is that notion completely dead now?

Neversoft
05-08-2011, 10:25 PM
Not happening any time soon. Rikiya Koyama is the only person that has said a new season is in the works - he could have just been teasing. Apparently there was supposed to be a new Ippo film too, but nothing has been heard on that for years. Might as well give up asking, because it probably won't happen. At least not for another five years minimum at this rate.

I hate people so I wish I was just a fisherman or something. I'm good at writing but it isn't exactly easy to get a job in that area. Although with that said I'll be featured in the buyers guide in the next issue of NEO Magazine and they're going to print my review of Evangelion 2.22. You all better buy it. Issue 88, on sale next Thursday I think (the 11th) at your local WHSmiths.

only bought neo twice- regretted it twice.

i keep joking to people about writing a book and making my money that way if your a good writer maybe see about getting something there. I'd like to write a book but it always stumbles me on how to start it and stuff xD. and im assuming the review you do for neo has to be on UK dvd/blurays/products?

Need to find me a good site to get manga for my kindle i found a site but only has first 5 volumes of a few series.
Got me 1-5 of Ippo and not manga but all of the Walking Dead

HATERS GONNA HATE.

I don't often agree with the opinions of NEO and some of their articles are very biased, but they do have some good material and at least we have an anime magazine over here in the UK. Yeah, UK products since it's a UK magazine. Though I just reviewed the film and not the actual DVD, features, et cetera. That's twice I've had that review published now. :D

Just wondering, did you go to uni Ryuzaki? If so, what did you study?

I'm more a critic than a novelist. Though I do feel I have a lot of good ideas that could be molded into a story, but I would probably be better suited as a scriptwriter. Again, not an easy occupation to make money from. :P I think the best way to start something is to always brainstorm and figure out which direction you want to take it.

Southe,
07-08-2011, 05:47 PM
nope just college for me, and pity could have reviewed my Strong World LE. I could have done a good piece on Strong world have..
- The movie LE
- Volume 0
- The artbook
- The data book
- The movie program

Wish i could legally turn One Piece into a novel. Payed to either turn the series into novel form or come up with my own spin offs. Would be great, wouldnt be payed as much as someone coming up with the own idea tho.

I'm an idea person tho, would like to be a writer, director or director at games cant remember the name for someone who just inputs ideas and leads etc.
