You need to know your approach pattern! Line if for the descent, reduce engine speed lower flaps.,

You can use your GPS and ATC etc...

After a long day on Vatsim flying across the Atlantic ocean with about a 7 hour flight. In a Boeing 747-400. Flying with Cody (Boeing) and Tom joined in from Ireland (Jaffa Cakes) we got on our way to America. Below will be some screen shots of the flight.

GPS* and fmc, fmc is MUCH MUCH different.

GPS - Global Positioning System. Its not what they use in Airliners, they only use it in light aircraft. The FMC is alot more versatile than the GPS Also, you can actually input a flight plan into the FMC. It will also bring you onto approach. I just don't know how.

Anyway, back on topic please.

FMC = Flight Management Computer.

Also, GPS doesn;t show you any errors :P

VPS? You mean GPS? FMC they use in the real world, so is more realistic. What i do, using the FMC, there is a T/D icon on the screen. When im near there, i put the alto in the autopilot panel down, and the plane auto-decends. You then fly the STAR etc, line up at around 10ish miles out, or more. Keep it at a good height (2 red, 2 white on PAPI), once at around 20 feet, i idle the engines, flare slightly, and hope to come down :]

LOC is Localizer hold, i think it keeps you on the right glide slope, and the way Tucker said for visuals is pretty good, it leaves you at a nice height for landing

I use LOC to basically get the plane in line with the RWY. I do the height myself, but it helps keeping it inline :)

I need some tips on landing, I'm flying IFR and I get told directions to the approach by ATC. Once I am on the line I select my "nav" button once I have put the runway frequency in my nav1 radio and set it to active.

I then once on the line path for the runway set "APP" the approach hold switch but with some aircraft it really mucks up and goes over >> away from the line yet other aircraft like the 777 does this perfect and lands.

Can anyone give me some other tips on how to do good landings without having to use FMC and complicated writing lol.

Yes, FSX will run perfectly on 512mb Wndows XP mechine.

I signed up for thomson virtual, but I think i've signed up before and quit, I entered my vatsim id to complete reg. and then it come up with vatsim id already in use. So thats not good.

I just got fs2004 and was wondering if I could use the mouse to control the plane? I have the fsx demo and I was able to use the mouse for that but I can't seem to use it for fs2004. Do I HAVE to use a joystick to play fs2004? I'll be ordering a joystick soon but I just wanted to play it today.

Ok, i've installed FSInn ETC,

and i've managed to conect to VATSIM UK Server with my id via FS2004 and FSInn

But i can't seem to see anyone, as the only ppl in the session apparently are FWInn and Me.

Any ideas :S, oh and i can't see anyone either.

Great stuff...I really like that PMDG 747. When did you do that flight and what was your flight number becuase I was flying KJFK to EGLL and almost had a head on collision with a Virgin 747 inbound KBOS from EGLL. Probably werent you but could have been if you flew on VATSIM.

I have some part of the day on the 8th but finally got my first mentor session after months of being in Essex RTS (EGSS_GND at 1830Z, got to take ground as its my a mentor session and im a STU and first time as Ground blah blah blah - I blame the many students in Essex taking up the mentors time). S3 is the level Dan is now at. When they go up they like can go onto approach, then radar etc :P RTS is the region I think.

Well probs most people will agree that you'll defo need a joystick.

& You can fly online, but we suggest you get to know things first :D

You need a joystick.

I got it the other day and have tried to play it without a joystick. It is pretty impossible to fly correctly and not spin out when just using a keyboard.

When I get some money in on the 15th I'm gonna order one off Play.com for £12.99. Theres two on there:

I would recommend the Alpha Typhoon. They have a free ware version and a pay ware version. free ware off their website and pay ware either buy or torrent.
