9800 what? GT, GS or what, anyway GPU doesn't matter too much, its all about CPU.

4GB RAM is over kill, 2/3GB but 4GB is nice :)

A faster dual core would have been better for FS2004 as FS2004 can only use 1 core. FSX can use all 4 but the frames are still crap on Ultra High.

Not sure about the graphics card. But I can tell you know 4GB ram and the processor will do you fine. Depends what you want, most of us here use FS2004 because of major downloads and its easier to fly on VATSIM with it. But its up to you.

You still didn't tell us what CPU, with Flight Simulator its all about the CPU.

You could have saved money by getting an 8800GT, which is the same as the 9800GT really, Nvidia are just money grabbing.

The motherboard won't make the game run any faster during "slow moments". :)


FSX still cannot run on Ultra High with decent frame rates yet, so stick to FS2004 and download LOOOOOOOOADS of addons for it! :D

Basically, it just makes your terrain look alot better; better textures and make the terrain look a whole lot better. They also as shown in the shots at the night lightning which again looks brilliant.

It didnt effect my performance I don't think, so hopefully wont yours :)

Baggage Truck - press Shift & E to open main cabin doors then press number 2 on your number pad to open the door under the aircraft (Cycle through 1 - 4 as various aircraft have more doors that open)
Fuel Truck - press Shift & F some airports don't have fuel trucks.
Pushback - press Shift & P, then press 1 or 2 to turn left or right.

Ok, i've been starting on vatsim, and me and ma friend have been doing flights with each other, sometimes, his plane displays as a tailfin, with a ?. Sometimes, it's right plane, but with VIP as liverie.

Yet i've seen on other peoples screenshots where you can see everyone elses livery.

What do i have to do to get it so it doesn't do this?

Go to start - change aircraft - click edit and then there should be a few options to select a livery

Some times if the aircraft can't be identified fully, it will show up as triangle based aircraft with a tail fin. Make sure both of you choose an airline and the correct aircraft model like Matt has said above, although at times it show up as the VIP style.

What you mean by properly? That you can't see the aircraft fully? Or you can see a plane but it shows as VIP or that tail fin. Screenshot?

Since the thread title did say 2007/8, I'm going to get back into the tour and start from the last airport I landed at. The next flight I will be doing will take place tomorrow, Novosibirsk - Moscow. Well, I did start it off and got so far but had to stop due to Tucker having to go into hospital I stopped. I thought i start again but carry on from the last flight I did.

The longest FS members in this forum that in the year of 2007 I started a world tour with Tucker. Tom came along on few of the flights, anyway If you have recently looked in the old thread I posted an update saying I carry on with the tour and finish it. I thought it was best to make a new thread since most of the screenshots no longer work in the thread and will be nice for a fresh start. I won't be starting from the start again because to me thats just a waste of time and fuel! So, my next flight will be from Novosibirsk (UNNT) to Moscow (UUDD), I'm skipping an airport in between so I can get to that side of the world a bit quicker. So that will be direct.

The rest of the route is: (The ones in green are completed so far.) Sadly I won't be able to keep that updated in the first post due to edit reasons on this forum.

Although every update post won't include many shots, Just one or two or anything funny or interesting happens. Oh and another thing, all flights will take place on VATSIM using real time. :)

Just a quick post. As I presume some of you may know, VAT-UK forums are down. I have my Gatwick validation tomorrow and usually there would be a thread on the UK forums requesting traffic; this is obviously not able to be done. So if anybody tomorrow is able to fly in/out of Gatwick between 1830-2000ZULU it would be much appreciated as I obviously need the traffic for the exam.

We have decided that the Cross The Pond event will be held at Birmingham this year. Its slowly creeping up and getting closer.

Open the MCDU (SHIFT + 3)



Using the keypad, enter in your departure and arrival ICAO codes. E.G EGLL/EGCC



HIT 'ALIGN IRS'



This is optional, but you can input other details such as your 'FLIGHT NUMBER' or your 'ALTERNATE ROUTE'



Hit 'F-PLAN'



Click the top left button which will be next to EGLL



Again, hit the top left button to select the 'DEPARTURE' tab



Select the runway in use (in this case we will be using 27L)



And select your assigned SID (we will be using WOBU2G)



Press 'INSERT'



Now, this is where we will need to have our route (placed at the top of this tutorial)



Hit the 'UP ARROW' key a few times to get to the waypoint shown as 'WOBUN'.



You will be able to see our next waypoint in our flight plan is OLNEY so we will need to insert that:



Type in 'OLNEY' and click the button directly under WOBUN. The waypoint OLNEY will now be inserted.



Now, our next plan along the route is actually a AIRWAY so we will need to insert this in a different way.



Hit 'OLNEY' and you will see we are presented with alot of options



In the VIA/GO TO option, you will need to enter the AIRWAY and the next waypoint following that. In this case, it will be: T420/TNT



Once that is entered hit INSERT



Again, hit the UP ARROW. Now, we are at the end of our flightplan, we will need to do a few final things. Firstly, you will need to delete F-PLAN DISCONTINUITY by hitting the CLR button and hitting the button next to the F-PLAN DISCON... message.



Now we would need to select our STAR. I would advise doing this just before decent incase the arrival runway does change. But to do so, select the EGCC button at the bottom



Hit the top right button for ARRIVAL



Select the arrival runway



Select the STAR



Hit INSERT




Now, nearly finished :) Hit the INIT button and click NEXT PAGE.



For the top right entry, enter you aircrafts ZFW.



And following that, for the 2nd option on the right, enter your BLOCK which I just put as 45.0



Final stage: Hit the PERF page and simply right click the three V1 buttons etc.

And that is it :) Hopefully that isnt too brief and I hope it is understandable. Any questions please feel free to ask and I'll be happy to answer.

ah no. I've never done anything on the military side of things, so wouldn't really know how to control something at such high speeds. But I presume it is almost the same, just.. faster?

Nah, you don't report much it's just like the aircraft occasionaly reports where he is and whether he's going to put himself on the ground or not. That's what we do in VRAF anyway.

Who says there's always going to be 1 departing and 2 arriving?

If theres 2 departing, and then one arriving, then by the time you've got the first one out you have to wait for seperation, and by that time you may have another one holding behind you for departure and another 2 on the ILS? It all builds up.. by the way Sam are you going to be on tower?

Well, this started of as a bit of a joke LOL. Adam thought it was cool to just taxi all over the place and do what he wanted, then again hes a BA pilot. So i was just drinking my bru while taxing and on takeoff. Then he had problems with FMC so I just watched him fly by on the wing views of the aircraft. Then I found out Adam gets hard over Russian ATC even though we never had any. I'm sure he was drunk! Adam says I shoved my **** in his face but I don't remember that! But I did remember putting the fuel in his face though since I needed to dump some over Russia. Oh yeah, we both over packed for our trip to Odesa, I hope we can find an hotel? Oh wait, Hotels = Farm land in their country? :P

Leg 2 is underway now, I had the wrong route so I was going in the wrong direction and the autothrottle is stuck at 250 knots. Matt got to both destinations before me even though I took off first for the second one.

Good Morning, After to having a rough night due to the rain outside and such. I woke up at around 5AM <_<. Anyway while waiting for Adam I surfed the internet at the airport and drinking their horrible tea. Anyway, at around 07:54AM myself as TCX93 again took off from the airport and started heading for our destination. The route will take us over parts of Turkey and then I noticed we going to be near Iraq :P

I only just landed. That went totally wrong, autopilot fialure and had to handfly the last 60 miles. We got way closer than the picture above because we were 'testing' the TCAS, lol, Traffic traffic, descend descend, increase descent rate increase descent rate.

After landing I taxied into parking and shut down then a few minutes later some siren came on and we didn't know what it was, I think Matt broke something while he was waiting for me to land but y'know.
